  1. Posting here as well as the tyre section. Been looking through threads left right and centre. Maybe I am not typing the right thing in to the search with but I cant locate the answer. So please, either flame me and provide links to all the threads you found when you carried out a simple 10 second search to prove it can be done or simply let me know what the difference is. I ask because nobody I have spoken to has been able to give me a clear answer on what is the main difference between a Jap spec tyre and and Aussie tyre that prevents an imported car being registered with the Jap tyres still on it. Had many varied responses along the lines of the load rating is missing eg: 245/40 R17 W instead of Aussie spec 245/40 R17 97W That there is a DOT number not moulded into the Jap ones that is on the Aussie ones. The the Jap tyres simply are not load rated high enough (highly doubt that one) So please, if anybody has a clear simple answer to this question then please post up.

  3. About to spend three or four days cleaning all the damn Jap dirt and grime off of and out of the GTR followed by a trip to the detailers shed at work I think to make it all spick and span again. Pull the Carrozzeria headunit out and replace it with one that actually has English on its display. Then have the damage repaired that occurred on its way here from Japan and hopefully by that stage take it to work and register it...
  4. Heading straight from the boat on Sunday morning. Pretty sure I will just sit this one out and help in pit lane or similar. Gotta get used to the new Datsun before I have a run.
  5. So its sounding like St Kilda is the place to head. This works out pretty good as its only about 5 klm from where I am picking the car up from and as far as I can tell from trusty old Google Maps is pretty much a straight line, no turns affair to get there. This will also keep the powers that be happy as I can plead stupid lost tourist trying to find the boat if they decide to try and nab me for not taking a direct route to the boat as the permit stipulates.
  6. Even though most of this is already answered above... Picking it up from a business near the CBD In the morning. On the boat that night. (Thus the what can I do to fill in a day part of the question...) Anything that will keep me from being bored that wont cost me a fortune. Start naming your 1000 things. Bet you dont even get close... Thanks to the other's that posted usefull replies. Car wash does sound like a plan, except it is coming off the boat here in Tas on Sunday and heading out to Symmons Plains for the day. Might get best presented trophy at least. I didnt realise that there were so many places in that area between Port Melbourne and the CBD. Looks like I will be able to fill in a day just getting lost there so wont need to stray much further. Can anybody give me an idea of where the major car yards are like Subaru Docklands, HSV etc?? May sound like a stupid question but when ya never been there...
  7. Really not that bothered. As long as its nearish the CBD, can park my car safely, dont have to walk far, wont cost me a fortune, food is nearby and there is something to see or do. Markets, shopping centre, park, expo... As long as I dont end up just sitting in mycar all day waiting for the boat to leave again. I dont know anybody in Melbourne and just dont want to get stuck driving around aimlessly trying to find something to do.
  8. Try This Link for an answer. Was passd on to me by another member here not long back, sorry cant remember who it was though or in which thread.
  9. Hey all Heading over to Melbourne on Saturday to pick up the GTR. Just wanting a few pointers on whats to do to fill in the day till I get back on the boat that night. Dont really know the place that well, I spent three days there about 7 years ago. I cant go far as the car is on a permit till I get it back here in Tas and register it. Any pointers on where to go that will keep me from getting bored. Been searching on the net a bit but figure its easier to ask the locals...
  10. Typical tunnel vision forum views. Only see and read what you want... Do I give a crap if you bag out Fords?? Nope. They keep me in full time employment fixing them. But then the same goes for Holden employees... and Honda... and Subaru... and Mitsubishi... etc etc Somebody asks a simple question and it turns into a bag out somebody affair yet again, with an Admin/Moderator in the middle of it all. How typical... To Nimmo, obviously because "one" XR6 Turbo overheated for unknown reasons its the opinion of those that matter on this forum, who is obviously part of a nice little clicky club cause he got all his mates to come on and back him up, that you should stick with the standard Nissan Viscous Coupling type fan on your car as it cant be bettered. I will now humbly back away from this thread and vow to never voice an opinion again unless I am given it from somebody on here as unless you are one of the chosen few, you are obviously wrong and better off to be like the three wise monkeys...
  11. So if the themo fan setup on a Ford is such a poorly designed thing then why do so many people use them as upgrades when they want something better for their recently modded car?? I find your crack about being a typical dealership mechanic highly amusing... Only been in a dealership environment for about twelve months. Been building and working with cars for about 16 years prior to that. So now who is assuming shit?? Back to the topic at hand... Last time I looked I did not see a Viscous Coupling on a V8 Supercar, or a Formula 1, or the V8 Utes that support the Supercars... They all run thermo fans. So do most modern performance cars. So whats your theory on why the XR6 Turbos thermo fan set up caused it to overheat?? Is it an auto? Was it simply that a temp sensor malfunctioned? Had the vehicle recently been worked on and maybe had repairs carried out to the cooling system and not been checked thoroughly for air in the system or maybe somebody simply did not plug the fans back in correctly? Did the PCM fail to switch the fans on for long enough? Did some rubbish get flicked up in the grill and obstruct air flow?? Its all to easy to say its a crap design or thermos dont work properly but there are so many other variables that could have caused the issue.
  12. So your mate cooks one Falcon and suddenly thermo fans are crap and so are Fords.... Ha, what a joke. Poor design?? I doubt it. More like it was sitting still, bouncing off the limiter cooking the tyres or similar. Both sorts of fans have their pros and cons. A lot of people don't install aftermarket thermos correctly and either have them on a switch that they inevitably forget to switch on until they suddenly realise with horror that the needle on their temp gauge is buried past the red zone or they simply wire them in so they work all the time the ignition is on, which simply means that they are cooling their engine from the second they start it and try to warm it up. A properly set up thermo, with a shroud and a thermo switch is a very effective setup and also reduces the load on the engine which in fact gives you that little bit extra power and allows the engine to rev that little bit faster. A fan with a viscous coupling is also a very efficient fan as well, once again, as long as they are set up correctly and not modified. They allow the coupling to free spin when the engine is cold, reducing the load on the engine and as the engine warms up they gradually engage more and more providing the cooling that's required by the engine. They must be set correctly though with the coupling the correct distance from both the engine and the radiator and have the correct shroud to make them work efficiently. Simply changing the radiator for a bigger bigger thicker triple core job and removing the factory fan shroud can almost render a viscous fan useless. (Yes I am a mechanic and yes I do work for a Ford Dealership before anybody starts flaming me. and yes I have built and modified many cars in my time as well)
  13. So these dont have tyres?? and your looking to play one buyer off against the other to see who will outbid who... Was interested but not getting into an auction for them. Thanks.
  14. Thats a lot of bumps for somebody who isnt too fussed about selling or not. I am a little unsure on details in your original post... Do these wheels come with tyres with 80% tread or are you after Volk/Work wheels with 80% tread. If in fact its these that come with tyres and 80% tread then what tyres are currently fitted??
  15. Is the ECU designed to run with Low Impedance Injectors?? I have read in a number of user manuals now that many ECU's will not run like this and need a Ballast Resistor set up to operate correctly. Couldnt be bothered downloading the Microtech manual to see what it says, its probably wrong anyway hey Finny??? But hey, what would I know?? I normally play with big fat carby's on top of even bigger old skool engines...
  16. Couple of them actually, just cant for the life of me remember where they are. White Hot is one. Is it Performance Autos in Hobart that has one?? I know there is or was another business in Hobart that was running an AWD Dyno but they didnt advertise the fact as it was mainly used in the same manner as White Hots.
  17. Grab the Bendix book or jump on their website and start searching. They have profiles of all their pads so you simply need to sit yours on the picture and see if its the same. As soon as you find one the same shape and size your on a winner, buy a set and go home and fit them. I fail to see why people have so much hassle with this sorta stuff, all the info is there in the brake books but then he did say he went to Autobarn...
  18. What licence?? Best thing to do is to check the applicable Roads/Transport/Registration Department Website for the state you live in. I posted links to two different ones there. google.com is your best friend here if you don't know the department you need to talk to in your own state.
  19. Sure its 23.4mb and 580 pages long but once ya got it ya got it... Look around page 234 to save you searching. Oh and look here for a convertor
  20. Thanks heaps. Just proves what I already thought. Its a plain old GTR with a heap of NISMO stuff thrown at it. We cant have everything now can we... Been looking for a decoding guide like that. Added to favourites now.
  21. Guess I will jump on the band wagon for now as well... Anybody able to assist with any info, much appreciated. BNR32-313672
  22. Excuse me?? Not what the place carrying out compliance on my vehicle told me... This may have been the case but I dont believe it is anymore. Inless they are worn or frayed that is, then its a safety issue which is a different matter.
  23. I just looked into this as well. Clicky Here for QLD Clicky Here for NSW I thiunk basically the fees vary but the general rule is that the permit must be obtained from the state the vehicle starts its journey in. For example, I have to get a VicRoads permit to bring my vehicle back to Tassie. I asked about getting a permit here in Tas and they told me to go talk to VicRoads. Most of the websites have similar info.
