The old 4000 design cracked with too much heat. You would not be able to do this on the road, or even a motokhara type event. But at the track after the heat soak sets in they crack.

I put a rag under the filter and do it from the top.

I let it cool, put my hand down there and used some "choice as" words, it came off.

I changed the oil in the S15 yesterday, the filter came right off. Though damn it was hot for a long time, tinny little filter that it is. Z445. Put 4100 10w40 in it. Didn't smell like it was burning. Though I wanted to put XMAX 10w40 in it, but couldn't find it at the local autobarnz.

oil huh, there is a huge thread and every man and his dog has an opinion. for me, 5w40 for winter. protecting the engine with the thinner oil with the cooler startup. 10w40 in summer, hotter weather allows for the ticker oil on start up and wont burn off with the warmer weather. 10w50 if you run it off the rev limiter or track it one a month / hills. had a great time last night, again so many people to talk to. couple of faces I hadn't seen in a while.
