  1. spotted a young lad in an imaculate white stagea series 2 on grenhill rd yesterday avo coming back from work spotted a nice silver r33 near Mitcham shopping centre this morning, the owner gave me a point of the finger Cheers mate! i cant believe how many stageas are about... i'm easy to spot - a stock silver s2 stagea with QLD plates but next week i'll no longer be driving it too and from work - too risky and adds kms. swapping it for the mrs red kh laser 3 speed auto - VROOOM! or occasionally stretching the bluebird legs you spot a hoon in a red trx with white wheels and i wave - dont think i'm odd, just wave back. Dan
  2. 3ghz core duo 4 gb ram (just kingston standard) big thermaltake radiator thingo (no noise except from the other 3 case fans) 2X 512 ATI Raedon cards in crossfire mode ideally i'd like to overclock it a bit and throw in some 4-4-4-1 gaming ram with their own fans. just so on a 40~c day it will still be fine. i understand that a FS you spend more time in the air than on the ground, but i like seign traffic/boats/trees and the airport on final approach. and to see it all after dropping below the complex rendered clouds at 5000ft. pity it is so inefficient in multiplayer where i spend most of my time but single player showed some great results just using 2gb of ram hmmm i think i have just revealed how much of a geek i am...
  3. i've already taken it to a guy and "he will get back to me" but thankyou for your offer, really considerate. i've already told the guy that pending whats wrong to "spice it up" if it costs me $1000 bucks - i get it back and its faster, reliable and works then i no longer care all i want to do is play FSX on top (near top) graphics and it was very close before. its with the "computer depot" in holden hill. the young lad there on the weekend was very helpful and helped do some initial diagnostics free of charge, but because it was a head scratcher i'll let them have more fun with it. and i cant even get it running long enough to fiddle with the BIOS starts, flashed a few lights, restarts - as quick as you read this...
  4. took the psu to a pc guy to test and came back fine tried swaping ram again but no luck taking it to the pc guy now for a bit of diagnostics and see how it goes i'll post back with results - this thing has not been running for 3 months - no point having a $1000 pc which does not work...
  5. ii might try and grb another power supply unit tomorrow and give it a go i'm swpping parts between my dad's pc and mine to try and see whats buggered. but a bit of a run down is had an issue one of a pair of ddr 800mhz 1Gb RAM died running on 2GB no worries buy 2x1gb ram sticks (same part number) and fit works no worries looks a bit messy - but pc is running - nah just turn off at the PSU master switch rejiggle wires and make neat as a pin turn on gets to windows and restarts at same point hit F8 during start up and stop restarting with an issue BSOD insert windows CD but drive no longer opens - light flashes but no open - even after manually opening inserting disc and closing... take hdd out (because thought it was OS error) and took the hdd with me through airport on holiday back from qld to Adelaide. Secrity had a fit! plug in to oldman's pc, start up, does random shit and asks for win xp cd - so i give it my old man's and reinstall xp restart works fine take back to qld after more security and after holiday insert nothing... take into work and it guy sets up another pc so i can extract my data onto my external hdd for safe keeping my pc just restarts and doesnt even get to the bios stage b4 restarting tried: swapping hdds disconnecting hdds same with cd/dvd drives removing vid cards removing banks of ram till its 1GB but still no work reapplication of thermal grease to cpu i have just established my hdd stil works fine, my cd/dvd burner still flashes and does not open in a different pc its at the stage where i am beginning to not care about how it gets fixed but i have no idea! i'll grab a psu because the one on my dad has doesn't have the right plug, the big on for the motherboard is 4 pins too short - mine is 450W and his is 400W so no go... i can swap a spare dvd from dads pc to get it working, but i need it to work first... if it is the psu it is the 2nd one in 1 1/2 years that has failed on me. first one started shooting sparks but started about 3 weeks after i got it, replaced and no worries. *super unhappy face* i'm almost over it... i got it built through a mate of a mate my mate is a good friend of mine and would give me the shirt off his back, but i hastled him about the RAM and first PSU, and his mate has gone through a split and no longer builds custom pc's. i dont want to trouble my mate again, he has done so much but i think he is getting sick of dealing with my pc and trying to keep friendships between two seperated parties. esp my mate shipping the pc and stuff at his expense to me in qld while i was up there - i mean c'mon what a pal! i dont want to cause trouble so if i can find away around this w/o concerning him, then its the best option. my mate to me is worth more than $100 an hour... so if i can fix it on the sly then all is good, he thinks shit is ok and i feel good about that.
  6. guys i need someone to look at my pc for me its dead and that sux as i have some great hardware in there going to waste i think its an issue with the motherboard but i'm not 100% doesnt even start up, just restarts constantly at random intervals... please guys i need a bloke who is into gaming pc's and not affraid to tackle a challenge thanks Dan
  7. well we made it back no worries. left gladstone and went straight to banana to the liechardt hwy this was probably the worst part of the trip tight single laned roads and mountanous driving and 36`c in 80% humidity got to gondowindi that night (lovely place) and then west wyalong the next (not so nice a place but still delightful people) it took a while to understand what the trans wanted to do and trying to get the car to do what i wanted the best method for towing at speed was to use the steering wheel tiptronic and slowly wind up the speed untill 100 when you hit 4th, keep accelerating to 110 (please dont fine me) and back off, this tricks the trans into thinking there is no load, it locks up and sits at about 2250rpm at 100kms - set cruise and forget. otherwise if the steering wheel is not switched on it locks and unlocks constantly in 4th, or in in drive, hunts through everygear - and with cruise activated has no worries shifting back to second at 90kms to maintain speed - just get it into 4th and shift to 3rd for hills - repeat above... a bit of advice for anyone to try and tow massive loads long distance in the future... have plenty of money nearby we stopped every half an hour to ensure there was enough premimum in the tank at main towns - needed because every 1/2 hour of 100km driving consumed almost 3/4 of a tank the best consumption was about 220kms 3/4 a tank worst was 100kms for half we averaged in total fuel economy - scrap that - fuel CONSUMPTION was at about 4.3kms per litre of precious premium. the car also sat on boost non stop in top gear with the turbo whistle rivaling that of the cicadas on the side of the road in the bush the car had plenty of power to spare to overtake and the brakes stopped us fine in some emergency emu and kangaroo encounters increadible that we managed to do the trip easily in 3 days total weight of the trailer was estimated at around 3 tonnes and the trailer resempbled a small garden shed. despite the fuel cost (still cheaper than removalists) the stagea series 2 is a capable towing vehicle - very impressed few pics to come when we have settled down a bit more
  8. i did a front pipe cat and 3 inch the rest biggest gains are through the frontpipe and cat you will notice the difference can only imagine what a dump added would do the cat back has little gains but makes noise... shell out the big bucks for a full job straight away - works out cheaper in the end
  9. i'll wait untill i get back and start doing the things that i know it needs and the cheapest first so probably plugs, pump, then packs thanks guys really appreciate it i'm still clueless when it comes to efi turbo - throw me a carby and i'm fine...
  10. yeah i know its small - but seems irrelevant now whats a good pump worth these days?
  11. ^^^ exact same engine with lesser an exhaust it is pretty obvious the dip in performance which matches what i feel, almost looses power before making more. some with bigger injectors, powerfc and exhaust cams have overcome this not for me but looks common although i'll never go that far. Coilpacks, well could be - it happend at the exact same rev range though, thought arcing packs woild be a bit more sporadic.
  12. i'm guessing it is just more noticeable in a lower gear and without the backpressure of the old standard exhaust dampening its effects. its hard to test it in 2nd and third gear safely for obvious reasons, and its likely i'll never do it again for another 3 months... just had me a bit worried thats all thanks
  13. in all honesty i have not ever changed the plugz i aim once i get back to adelaide (see long trip in stagea thread) and doing an new waterpump, plugs and cam belt as i have tools, mates, second car and plenty of places to get parts from once i get back i'll swap in some newies and retry - this is the extent of all planned modifications, goes fast enough and reliability is the top priority, not power.
  14. nope , not that i know of Std everything except the exhaust also just added fresh oil and running on 98
  15. i never get to drive the stagea like it should as i have a missus stapled to the passenger seat 99% of the time. yesterday she had a lift home with a friend so i wound down the windows and have it a couple of full throttle runs . it works fine and goes like a rocket after the new exhaust has been put on a month ago (3 inch front pipe, the highest flowing cat i could find and a fujitsubo cat back 3 inch) but i noticed everytime at 5500 to 6000 it hesitates for a second then keeps on going to redline where the auto shifts, the exhaust makes the nicest craclke and pop sound while engaging second and continues strong in the next gear. only noticed it recently and if it is on 50-80% throttle it wont do it - only at near or full throtle. drives beautifully none the less, just curious to the cause the exhaust stuffed things up? sign of something on the way out?
  16. elbow grease and a chucks cloth, the only thing abbresive you should use is a toothbrush once it is clean and dry, wipe it down with a rag sprayed with a bit of silicone spray to restore the colour and shine anything abrasive will leave scratches which will attract more mould in the future and look like arse
  17. put solar panels in the bonnet, roof and boot to assist in charging the car - why not? that way when the car sits in the sun all day at work its got a heap more charge and wont need to sit in the garage plugged into the socket for as long at night a commercial van which drives all day and has lots of surface area would be pretty efficient + tie it to a diesel for when its raining, accelerating or you run out of energy...
  18. another question with the series 2 stagea and the tiptronic if i select 4th (overdrive) manually (not "d") it should stay in 4th no matter what unles sthe revs drop too much and it grabs 3th would it then be safe if the foad was flat to keep it in 4th at about 90 - 100? or is it too low for the trans to be fully locked up? research has revealed to me what kills the trans with towing is the auto constantly grabbing 3rd and then going back to o/d if this can be overridden then less of chance of cooking the bands right?
  19. the clause on the terms and conditions of trailer hire state that i am required to carry my own spare. how piss poor is that!? there is a half decent tyre out the back of my unit on a typical ford stud rim - the rim has taken a kerb really badly in the past, but it may be enough to throw on to get to a town - then i can roll on the decent tyre if its the same diameter and save a few $$$ i'll throw that in the trailer as well the stag has a great spare on it too with the same 5 stud pcd to get us out of shit. also an raa premium member who will recover the cost to tow the trailer to place of repair and put us up for one nights accom if the vehicle or trailer requires serious work. i dont want to rely on it, but you never know... i might call into a wrecker the day before i leave and see if there is a rim/tyre combo i can have for $50 the exact same as the trailer i'm hiring
  20. doing some research on geting the tyre pressures on the trailer right apparently you fill the tyres when cold to their recommended pressure and drive for an hour (to heat them up) check tyre pressures, at "hot" they should be 4psi higher to what you set if too low, you need more pressure if too high too much. ^^^ good advice to consider? also we have begin the packing process. looks good so far that we can keep most of the weight in the car instead of the trailer thank god for spacebags!
  21. Wholy crap! Classic porsche... the last fatality in the adelaide classic was a porsche as well... media calling to ban the event because if being dangerous begins in... 5 4 3 2 1
  22. had a chat with the miss's old man he towed a van from adelaide to come and see us took him 4 days but blew both rear tyres at the same time (wrong tyres for towing) and stalled him for half a day he seems to think that 4 days is plenty, 3 is doable, 2 can also be done but not worth the pushing of both trailer and car - especially in heat so we have rerouted and plan on the following approximate route http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&sou...ie=UTF8&z=6 we are avoiding broken hill as the old man suggsted there is about 400kms with nothing, atleast if you go the more southern route you have people around incase shit hits it. also he mentioned that is only saves about 2 hours... no point when you are already doing 25 all up at this stage we are estimating about 3 and 1/2 days with 9 hours of traveling. averaging about 100kms an hour with no stops we may do more less but guage it as we go the stag at the moment gets about 450kms with aircon doing nothing but hwy miles, a little faster than what we should be. the trailer will not be very heavy, we are planning on the trailer to have the jezza cans, queen mattress (reason for the enclosed trailer) treadmil and fishing gear. clothes after space bagging and suitcases will be in the vehicle only with this weight i can only assume we will average about 300kms at worse (worse than naughty city driving) therefore about 7 - 8 stops in total for fuel. if we can jezza can it, it may be less but if the above works out right it should be about every 3 hours we stop for fuel (3 hours at 300kmph) per day almost $1k in fuel alone, but with the trailer ($600) its still cheaper than a removalist where we would have to drive back anyway. its getting interesting as its a test of strategy, economics and forward planning...
  23. i'll try, but when i road trip i smoke - bad habbit - but keeps me busy i usally just hit the fresh button, crack the window and go my hardest - the vacume under the weather shields sucks the smoke out and i can wind em up and hit recucle again. unless the missus puts her foot down this time checked out the trailer we are towing and it is the most inefficient shape possible imagine towing a massive cube twice the height of the vehicle - must be thankful of the wagon shape to at least cut down the trailer's drag a little here is the most direct route possible with 2,300 kms http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&sou....418945&z=5 can someone suggest a better route or a change which may have better roads, more towns or better scenery? keep in mind its 4 days to get where i'm going
  24. is it if you own the car or if your P's are issued after this date? ie you are exempt because it was not a condition of your p's at the time. I got out of having to do the "log book" way back when because my l's were obtained before the law came in - so i did just one prac test, passed by 2% and drove the next hour to a mates... Better call Transport SA to make sure, but get in quick none the less or you will have to buy a civic with vtech YO!
  25. the s2 does not have the od button, but you can force it into 3rd or 4th manually with the gear selector detent. i have the car booked in for another service (oil) and swap the front pads for something a bit better than oem and new pads on the back - they were really low and probably get to metal half way through the trip. if there is enough meat, the front the rotors are getting a bit of a machine aswell. i only have a 5L emergency jerrycan but i might try and get a big one as the trip we are taking is almost directly from Gladstone to Adelaide. We have 4 days to get there towing and no no doubt the AC will be running flat out non stop and chewing the fuel. 98 will be very hard to get in the middle of nowhere. luckily the 3 inch now gives it a few more miles from a tank but it still drinks like a stagea. any tips on reducing fuel consumption further? O2 sensor is too much of a task to perform in the limted timeframe. should i run a bottle of injector clean through it on the next fill up?
