  1. i did just as you described after i applying the rust converter i chipped and sanded the surface back again and applied more rust converter i then used touchup paint to cover the infected areas. touchup paint was ok enough because the "repair" is only visible in one spot where the door is open i didn't know what to replace the foam with so i picked all the rust out - dipped it in rust converter and let it dry, then bolted it back on. so far so good, that spot looks as though its holding up so i am happy, and choose to be blisfully unaware how the rest is doing but why you have the converter in your hands - take off the rear rubber seal round your boot and clean it with soapy water, give it a good smear of rust converter and touch up again, apply seal i was supprised at how much rust was forming in there - not flaky like the mirrors but stained in the welds and pressed steel. gues a stitch in time saves 9 right?
  2. pm's recieved and thanks looks like i'll have to narrow my search i'm looking to spend no more than $1000 with something i can bolt on and dont need to mess with (i,e tyres) or something far cheaper to which fitting tyres is not going to send me over budget. thanks to all those who have helped (and please continue to do so) but seeing the prices of some r33 gtr wheels getting around its beyond my allocated funding Dan
  3. $1k is at the limit of my budget esp if i'm going to need tyres...
  4. I'm after a set of r34 gt-t wheels or r33 GTR wheels or PM me to point me to a wrecker who is sitting on a few sets or anything else in 17 inch to fit a stagea rs4 my tyres are getting low and i dont want to buy 4 newies and be stuck with 16's for another year Thanks Dan
  5. avoid traveling at sunrise and sunset - roos will bounce into your car perfect time to stop for a bite and a recharge - esp if driving 16 hours w/o staying somewhere overnight
  6. if you are going to get a c34 get one with twin sunroofs i test drove a s1 dayz before i bought a s2 stocker - because i wanted tip tronic and the neo i thought i did not want to bother with a car with sunroofs after spending many years fixing everyone elses so i opted for the s2 i have as i have no sunroof i can not tell you about them leaking, rusting, damaged by hail but that very first test drive of a stag with every window open including the roof, the memory still lingers - i now wish i could have that everyday. and i get very jelous when i see another one - even s1's (but i gots the power) with their roof open on a nice summer avo *sigh* but yeah - its fuel consumption not economy, because its a turbo 2.5 pulling a wagon, it needs a bit more aggression on the pedal to make it move in traffic (changes in speed on inclines etc) the s2 has a better autobox if you go that way and it shifts pretty quick for an auto i have looked at selling mine to get more cash for a house deposit but i cant - i can not buy anything with the power, features, room, safety, mileage, handling - in stock form - what it has for the same money or a bit more! just a great value car
  7. i'd love to come along and give some support and get my project out from under the blankets i couldn't find it on the link but is anyone and anything invited providing they are on their best behaviour? i saw the last cruise that went to ttp and i simply could not get over how many nice cars there were or the sheer number of cars, they were still arriving hours later! i started honking a few as i drove the opposite way as i thought initially it was a small cruise, but they kept comin! eventually i gave up even waving because my arm was contantly out the window like a saluting member of hitlers young army i'd love to show my support and possibly drum up a few fellow datsun enthusiasts but i dont want to be an unwelcome presence. i'd also love to see the city jammed with modified cars - send a clear message for sure! basically be part of it can anyone shed light on the "anyone welcome" before i start spreading the word?
  8. in one go 6 jumbo cube spacebags full of clothing 1 first aid kit 8years of unibooks fishing box 2 big suitcases and 2 portes my sombrero 4 pillows the mrs 22 inch pc monitor in box pc tower repacked in box fan random bits of stuff that after fully packing the 8x6x8 foot trailer wouldn't fit in there literally the whole section to the front seats was excluded of air and the tailgate electronic assist required additional effort to close the door then tie that in with a 2500km trip otherwise in one trip a pocket chopper standing up another time my sisters antique hall cupboard ^^ let mum and dad borrow it for the hall cupboard after they bought it thinking they could save $50 delivery - umm its a stag, cos them $40 to replace the fuel they used
  9. i used to do similar installing etc things do slip out the door unnoticed - or past quality control - or a worker drops his/her game for a day and you have to clean it up through warranty. i'm just suggesting that you give them ago since they are offering to do it for free going back nicely usually results in a good outcome - when people came back to us we kissed arse if you go in there waving your hands, being abusive and offensive then you MAY end up getting your shit mistreated or speak to the manager when you take the car back - dont burn your bridges before you cross them not the most desirable solution but so is being out of pocket $300 if you buy a carton of beer from BWS and find it has 23 - you dont go to liquor land buy one can you take it back and get what you paid for
  10. take it back and let them have the car for longer give them a chance to fix it properly without a manager breathing down their neck and so they can take their time. yes its inconvenient - but so is going to court or creating such a fuss that you end up with a shit install with shit sound and completely out of pocket (if it eventuates) just be nice - explain your issues - throw them the keys and tell them to fix 1, 2, 3, 4 untill you are happy. its obvious that they bit off more than they could chew with your install (ie not replacing a tape deck with a mp3 in an eb facon) and rushed it. although its bad practise on their behalf, give it back to them to "finish" and give them a chance to redeem themselves. then just dont go back there for future installs and dont advise your mates. they (outlet managers etc) will not want a bad example of their workmanship ruining their reputation
  11. i bought a one man bleed kit what a waste of time that was instead i pinched one of the hoses off it and crammed it over the nipple, opened it up the nipple and let it drain untill the new fluid came through into an old water bottle. threw the rest of the kit away piece of piss! dunno why grav bleeding never worked on my other car... but brakes are working great now but i'd suggest to anyone bleeding brakes in the future to just go to bunnings and buy a short piece of clear tube.
  12. thanks last time i did a grav bleed was on my old nissan after swapping a master cyl must have been some air in the system which prevented a bleed as no matter what i would do it would not flow - hence resorting to the "up down method" guess if there is minimal air in the system - ie replacing old for new may work better than my last attempt. what about bleed valves (yeah i did a search after posting) any good or just a useless toy?
  13. not skyline specific - but i'm trying to do a full service on my mrs laser tonight with the brakes requiring a lot of attention. basically the brakes work fine except there is quite a lot of sponge in the top half of the pedal. i doubt its ever been looked at. besides getting under there and bleeding at the nipple by getting an accomplice to press when i voice DOWN, lock the nipple and yell up - repeating constantly and toping up the reservoir - is there an easier way to do it at home a mate of mine had an awesome device which caused a vacume and drew the fluid up a clear hose - but we are no longer friends so my workshop privelages have been revoked any tips will be appreciated or devices to assist/where to find them would be simply awesome!
  14. in all honesty - the worst culprits for me are other fellow skyline drivers but its not all "lets drag ya pussy!" just the old take off slow and you can hear them holding first and not changing gears at the typical slowmoving 20kph shift point - their revs just keep building then i stab it and kick it back so it spools and revs and they plant it! and i let it change back to the usual auto functions and just keep rolling they go like a bat out of hell till they get to about 3 car lengths in front before they realise i bluffed. when i drive the datto i have to constantly rev the thing and blip the throttle to keep it from overfueling its not intentionally LOOK AT ME, its just the old L4 is over carbed and over cammed - then the hoon behaviour comes out every p plater in their vl's and vn's with chopped springs wants to show me how they drift an open wheeler in peakhour...
  15. i have an ecu talk because no one in my dumbshit hick town where i used to live would even look at the stagea - cant pronounce the name of the car then we cant fix it... so i had to do it myself... but found out the issue i had with a engine check light was just a hot o2 sensor -PHEW! - happened a few more times but just plug it in, run software, check error codes, clear i also like having the guages up on the laptop screen and going for a spin - makes me feel like Brian in the F&F LOL great product champ!
  16. if its leaking it probably not getting substantial hydraulic pressure then triggering the light or there is not enough pressure or an air emulsion, more slippage in gears = more heat i'd refrain from driving unless to get it repaired - might cause more damage than you can afford bit of a kick in the balls in'it! hope your mech can fix your box
  17. dude - towed a fully laiden trailer which represented a small garden shed for 2500kms usually in +35`C heat with aircon on no trans issues what so ever infact i think is shifts better and drives nicer after the trip! i would not have thought ambient air temp would be enough to set the at light on
  18. well you buy any product and have the expectation that it will work the first time. sending windows 7 flowers to try to try and get on its good side
  19. since putting in the exhaust, front pipe and high flow cat i have gone from 330-350km per tank, city driving to 380 - 410 city close to 500 with highway 4 litres per km when towing
  20. well got my pc workign again thanks to my pc guy asked him what i can do to get it much faster with the hardware i got windows 7 he said then you can run a 64 bit system as opposed you your 32bit and run 8gb of ram i said yes he said i bounded back home like a child with a lollypop got the pc started up and said my respectfull goodbyes to XP inserted disk, restarted, formatted, reinstalled 7 started first go super quick - just like vista but the mrs had vista on her laptop - so not so foreign to me Update? yes please - clicky clicky - must restart sure restart 7 you are so awesome restart - background and no icons or taskbar - just blank screen hmmm i'll leave you to think 7 come back 30 mins later and no go... no more working 7.... reinstall same as before but this time i sought ati drivers and catylist and loaded them on - beep 7 restarts in safemode restart after no icons... uninstall 7 and reinstall after format update? yes! restart - no icons the ONLY way to get it working again is to load on XP ^^^^ i did this for 2 days solid over a weekend and had enough i'll try in a few months and hope one of the auto "updates" fixes this problem so far i think 7 is shit...
  21. its now fixed! problem was the startup files were all corrupted after i bought a 64 bit win 7 oem version and shoved that in on every subsiquent startup after the initial install it doesn't show up anything on the desktop - just the background - no matter how long i leave it appears to be when it connects to the net to DL updates and has trouble with the drivers for the graphics cards instead i painfully loaded xp back on... still works fine but thanks for all your help guys - no doubt look for a "i cant get 7 to work thread soon"
  22. thank god he was using "hands free" on his phone while calling ford and 000 i call bullshit on this too
  23. it took 40 kms and a pending crash to try and apply the handbrake and normal brakes at the same time... what the hell were they doing the rest of the time? chatting about fashion probably... Agree, complete and utter stupidity or an attempt of 15 mins of fame
  24. your local Council should have an oil and vehicle waste scheme available i put all oil and coolant back in to containers (2L coke bottles are gun) and take them to the council tip on selected days - along with batteries and tyres.
  25. scinario:- stagea with badges etc r34 GTR mags with GTR written on the hub caps 1. Ghey 2. remove the hubcaps its misleading! 3. its fine - if you are stupid enough to think its a gtr stagea then you should drown yourself? as to the xy - i see no harm in calling it a gtr replica when all efforts to replicate it as standard have been conducted - not just badge swapping. and i want to see pics - sounds like a nice build.
