the software is availible on the net with logo's and stuff etc. ok unless ur gonna buy windows etc. for ur car pc. a basic computer system costs $350 anyway if u dont have the parts lying around unless ur going shuttle style yes. using standard parts the box u build urself will be much smaller anyway. put it in a perspex box or whatever into ur boot install.. what decent lcd touch screen costs $700 ? most ppl on mp3car.com use either xenarc or liliputs. im using a liliput 7inch which i got for $250. the mould is a bit of work, if u dont want to do it uself cost about $300 to get it professionally done. if u dont have any pc parts lying around.. $350 + 300 for screen + say 100 for power supply = 700ish. cabling is not much. depending on how much u want to be able to tune ur audio, the sound card is the most expensive part, if u've got basic stuff, then basic card (more than inbuilt) will suffice. i've seen small pc's built to sit behind the screen in the dash even.. wot do u mean by 'high end' carpc? i just said in my post that im using a touch screen lcd. if u want the whole specs its an amd 2400 with a 250gig hdd, slot loading dvd writer (not mounted yet in the glovebox) with 1gig of ram. basically all u need to have is a cpu, m/b and hdd. ram is shit cheap..sound card is undecided upon..u dont need a video card unless ur gonna playing doom3 or something on it. the rest of my audio consists of 2xaudison srx2 amps 1xaudison lrx1.400 monoblock 1xfocal 33kx sub 1xfocal polyglass v2 splits 1xfocal access coaxials thats where the money has gone into the whole setup, not the source.. if u dont beleive it can be done cheap..i suggest u jump onto both CAA and mp3car.com

u guys r talking bout some high prices. ive done my car pc for less than $500 probably. (it's actually in peices not in the car yet..im temporarily not living in aust) $250 touch screen lcd. ok fabrication came to a bit as its moulded into the dash with usb ports underneath the screen the rest is an old pc lying around, i guess expensive bit is the hdd if u want a massive one. im using a 250. sound card is where u need to spend quite a bit upon. then power supply, start up/shut down, there are many options. www.mp3car.com , im suprised no ones mentioned this yet. their online shop ships to aust, opus power supplies etc turn ur pc on when ur car goes on, off when its switched off (by safe shut down). gps = $60. u dont HAVE to have a keyboard, the touch screen is the mouse...its cheaper than a headunit... the expensive (or time consuming) part is the fabrication/moulding. i havent got any wireless stuff happening though.. not interested in that.. ill post pics of the screen moulding soon if i can get some

if u read it properly he says he wants to start off with a s13 and over time build it up (8 years), while on P's he wants to keep it relatively low powered.

sorry mate not sure if its the right way, i don't own an r33. but like the others have said by now, def. look into investing into a good set of sockets if u plan on doing a fair amount of work on your car. Be careful if they're tight and using cheap sockets, once you start rounding those sorts of bolts, then it's a bitch to get off good luck with it.

an s13 wont cost much to get to 200rwkw. and the newer sr20det engines found in s14's and s15's have VCT not VVT. for turbo choice i wouldnt got a t28 from the s14's or s15s (theyre the same..depending on if the cars jdm or adm..well s15 turbo's have a slight change with a divider in the wastegate ) anyway t28's will be good for only 180ish or 190rwkw. get a turbo depending on ur application....injectors will also need upgrading as will AFM. forget cat back and go a turbo back with a good intercooler. exhaust/cooler/turbo/boost/intercooler/injectors/afm/power fc + tune/ will get u there . obviously u'd want to do brakes etc.

theres plenty wrong in 6x9's in theory. its an oval speaker for one, doesnt excrusion is uneven. all it is is a generic speaker trying to play all the frequencies in one. if u can afford more than 1 set of speaker, then dont go for 6x9s.. thats the reason they sell well.

turbo or non turbo? can u afford full comp insurance or 3rd party? for 15k u can get a 32 gtst with mild mods or something like a silvia/180 with even more mods. plenty of these cars goin round so shouldnt have a problem finding them. this forum for skylines, www.nissansilvia.com for sil's. ofcourse theres others like soarers 300's etc. theres heaps under 15k...u gotta choose

u need the control unit 2 to do the light up display for the BF series gauges dont u ? and u need it anyway if u wanna hook up two gauges? an elec one (oil temp say) and mech (boost) ?

hook it up to 12volts dc. should go up try to run an inline fuse thru it to be safe.

2nd hand response 2x150 amp - $200 jvc basic mp3 player headunit - $300 (2nd hand or new i dunno...get one with sub out) 2nd hand DVC 2+2 ohm sub - $200 (ie. alpine type R, etc.) that way u run ur response amp at 2ohms each channel. build a box urself, + wiring nearly $100
