Hey guys, I thought I'd add to this thread... I've personally driven benny's purple DR30 beast many times and can vouch for the performance, FJs are awesome!! On 0.9bar It pulls harder then....... *ahem* well, lets just say it pulls bloody hard! It'll be even better once he shuts that damned diff up!! (sounds like its about to spit out the crown gear! ) It looks even better in the flesh too, the depth of the purple is hard to capture on camera. Twice as fast as your old R32 benny? Perhaps...Is it twice as fast as mine though? Naaahh!! Quicker definitely, but we shall see! cya!

RB20DET Knocking.... Help Please
RaseR replied to 5 litre eater's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hey Scott, Interesting - the connector in that diagram must've been for an R33. Mine has 4 empty fuse holders on the LHS of the panel and a couple missing along the bottom. My theory is that these are just extras for features either not present in the car or not even implemented. But no, it doesn't help much with the cold starting issues at all, it would seem that the diagnostic mode really doesn't supply enough information about the vehicles sensors for this kind of problem, it was worth a try though! Check this, interrogating the consult port using a laptop computer.....No official skyline version as yet though: http://300zx-twinturbo.com/conzult/ Looks so cool, you can view all the detailed sensor data in real-time, apparently it unofficially works on other Nissans but even if it did work - it costs $600AUD....Probably more then taking the car to be fixed!! cya, Dave. -

Hey Scott, No probs man - Another cool thing to note is that upon completion of the ECU diagnostics (ie. turning off the ignition), the ECU is also reset. This is cool because you don't lose your radio stations etc as you do when you disconnect the battery and no need to remove interior panels (well except the fuse panel....) and no having to fiddle with the ecu like the usual diagnostic method. Post your ecu diagnostic results when you have time! Mine came up fine (Code 55), but then again my cold starting issues are hardly what you'd call bad as yet. Dave. -
RB20DET Knocking.... Help Please
RaseR replied to 5 litre eater's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hey MM2Death, That's the procedure I used to test my R32 GTS-t, to get to the selecter/LED you have to actually unscrew the ecu from the car body and remove it from its mounting location as it is on the side you can't see (typical!) There is however an easier way, which I tried first and didn't realise till later was actually working....If you pull the fuse box lid and look right up into the top of it, you'll see the Consult connecter. There are two pins you can short out with a bit of wire for two seconds then when you remove the wire it will put the ecu into diagnostic mode, check this link: http://www.powerlink.co.nz/~graeme/faq/15.html I found on my R32 however that the Consult connecter was rotated 180 degrees as compared to the one shown in the link above, with the two pins being on the top right hand corner....wierd. The 'cat temperature light' will flash out the trouble codes - I expected the ECU light to do this, when I saw the cat light flashing at first it didn't click what it was doing - LOL! Hope this helps, Dave. -

Hey Dr_Drift, Mutterings about rebuilt motors and microtech ecus give me the feeling you'll be seeing that FJ powered 'line again in not too long!! An SR20 powered Datto 1600?! NIIIICE! Decided against the CA18 u mentioned when we came in then? Just tried the ECU diagnostic test on my R32 btw...the 'All OK' code 55 flashed up so could it possibly be blocked injectors as WazR32GTSt suggested? Finally do BMT clean injectors, if so - how much approx? If not, know of anywhere I can get it done? Thanx! -
RB20DET Knocking.... Help Please
RaseR replied to 5 litre eater's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hey Dr_Drift, Thanx for that, if all goes to plan I should be bringing the car into BMT early next year to get some mods installed/car dynoed, so that'd be the best time to get you to check it. BTW, you worked on my friends car - the purple DR30, I drove him down to pick it up. The car is running really well, I can't believe how quick it is! Once it's complied & on the road (soonish) it's definitely gonna scare some people!!! ;-) cya! -
RB20DET Knocking.... Help Please
RaseR replied to 5 litre eater's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hey my R32 is also beginning to get harder to start, it only happens in the morning when the car is dead cold, it starts first turn of the key but sits at 300rpm or less and almost stalls unless I tap the accelerator, at which point it roars into life...well not really - it just starts idling properly! Sticky AAC valve perhaps? I'd love to know the actual cause of this as well, it's only a recent thing on mine, and as with MM2Death - mine has regular oil changes and I just checked the plugs. thanx, Dave. -
FS: Fuel Cut Defender + HKS BOV to suit R32

bump!! The HKS BOV auction has only 1 day to go some one could still pick it up really cheap! -
Stopping Your BOV From Leaking - A How To
RaseR replied to Jay95R33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I also tested this mod the other day on my R32 GTS-t using a piece of tape to cover the hole, the BOV definitely sounded different....For a start - less air recirculation sound when the turbo spools up, normally when venting the BOV sounds like this: WWTTSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHH, afterwards it sounded the same at high rpm/boost but on a light to midrange throttle backoff it would flutter (kinda like this: TSHH TTTT TTT TT) and caused the motor to hesitate slightly. I removed the tape and the hesitation disappeared and the BOV sounded as normal - so I can't say I was all that impressed with the result, but it is interesting how different ppl have had totally different results! -
FS: Fuel Cut Defender + HKS BOV to suit R32
RaseR replied to RaseR's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Hey MADGT4, No this isn't an HKS SSQ, it's the model before it - HKS Super BOV, tho I've read quite a few reviews and some ppl actually prefer this model to the newer SSQ. Check this: http://www.geocities.co.jp/MotorCity/1513/...s_blowoff1s.jpg http://www.geocities.co.jp/MotorCity/1513/..._blowoff23s.jpg cya! -
Hey all, I have some parts off my R32 for sale: Fueltronics Fuel Cut Defender (Suit either R32 or Z32 300ZX): This unit is the same as the FG-FCD-002S model now sold by Turbosmart, check: http://www.turbosmart.com.au/fuel_cut_defenders.htm for pic/details. This FCD allowed me to run 16psi boost on my R32 GTS-t without hitting the fuel cut (which in my case happened at around 16psi otherwise). The FCD was working perfectly when I purchased the car, however after changing some of the mods, I found it difficult to tune the FCD to suit them without adversely affecting the engines ability to run smoothly (bear in mind, I'm no expert), so I'm selling this thing cheap. An R32 owner who is willing to invest a little time to tune this device properly could easily get rid of the fuel cut once and for all!! Any offers above $30 (+shipping) will be considered! Check: http://www.turbosmart.com.au/pdf/FG-FCD-002.PDF for the products instruction manual. HKS Super Blow Off Valve (With custom R32 GTS-t intake pipe): I listed the BOV on eBay when SAU was down but I thought you guys might still be interested (it's still really cheap), check the auction: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...item=2444700429 cya!

Had my R32 GTS-t for just over a month now Previous owner only had it for a year or so, barely drove it! Such a great car, definitely doesn't feel 11 years old...My old car was a '98 Holden Barina - 1.4l 8V powerhouse, LOL! I wanted to ditch it for a Skyline for ages, but I waited till I could afford it. It feels so good to finally drive a car that actually has power and style! Scott - I thought it might have been a Canon Powershot! Excellent cameras those, my friend has the 3.2mp version - going to get myself either the 4 or 5mp powershot very soon! Chef_32 - I'm in Emerald man, (so outer SE really) which if u haven't heard is home of 'Hello-Hello' Chris and Maries plant farm......*shudder* but fortunately not too far from civilisation! My R32 Beast: http://members.optusnet.com.au/~isf22/R32_2.jpg cya, Dave.

Hey Scott, Thanx for the info! That's right - now I remember I got the pic from your site, nice R32 BTW! Really nice pics too - had one as my desktop image for a while, what camera did u use? The return pipe should be right next to the factory blow-off valve return pipe, probably around midway between the AFM and the turbo. Tomorrow I'm going to go to a few wreckers around the place and see how I go! Since the blow-off return looks as though it was spot welded to the PCV return I'll probably have to get both. Good luck with the catch can you're getting, believe me they do quite a bit on the RB20, mine is reasonably low kilometres (70k) and it picks up quite a bit of crud that otherwise would be coating the intake piping. cya, Dave.

Hey all, I recently bought an R32 Skyline with a few mods, one of them was a catch can but it has been set up to vent atmo rather then back to the intake which I would prefer.......Let's just say I've already been pulled for a 'modification check' in the first couple of weeks of owning the car for no apparent reason other then the fact I drive a Skyline, the cop was extremely reasonable and rather then defect the car, he suggested I research the legality of the modifications. So basically I want the car to be as legal as possible (well the glaringly obvious stuff anyway! ) When the catch can was installed in my car, the metal pipe that ran from the turbo inlet up to the rocker cover (which then is connected to the LH PCV breather via a rubber hose) was totally removed (see pic below, crappy resolution but it shows my setup up top and below an R32 without a catch can, thanx whoever it belongs to!). I would like to restore this setup so I can run the catch can legally, but I think it could be difficult to find that metal pipe. So my question is, can I just run silicon or rubber hosing straight down to the turbo inlet pipe? It is awfully close to the exhaust manifold shield, will the hose be able to take the heat or should I try and source the factory item? BTW - the second pipe running from my catch can in the pic doesn't go anywhere, it's basically the vent...........tut tut! Any information would be great, thanks! Dave.

I've got a Isotta Nivola D-Shape wheel and HICAS boss kit on my R32, I love it! I really liked the R32 stock wheel until I got this one, they're a good quality wheel. This is similar to it: http://us1.webpublications.com.au/static/i...002000203hi.jpg

coco69, LOL - Nah, never really thought of that!! Ages ago I was trying to think of a nick so I took my last name........removed a letter and ended up with RaseR, sounded ok so I stuck with it!

I believe R32s 'gain' side indicators during Australian compliance? All the pics I've seen on prestige etc. of R32 skylines still in Japan have no side indicators. That's why they're nearly always those dodgy little square things that look like they belong on a small trailer or something??! Keeps the cost of compliance down no doubt! And also you'll notice that they're often in different locations, some have the indicator right above the GT badge, while others are much higher, almost in line with the top of the wheel arch (like mine). coco69, I'm guess whoever complied your '32 decided not to put them on! Same way the ppl who complied mine decided not to put in that crappy dash illumination dimmer switch (read - dollar fifty dick smith job) that is also required for compliance - Good I say, I don't want no damn holes in my dash, no matter how small and concealed!!
-
Hey, thanx for the compliments dudez! WazR32GTSt - Yep I'm a big fan of the R32 styling, not so much the R33, although I must say I do like the R33 Series 2 with a stealth wing.... Inark - thanx for that man, figured it'd be around that price, so is it an addon chip or do you swap your stock ecu for a remapped one?
-
Hey Ronin 09 - thanx man! I also love the rims!! They're Longchamps - some Japanese brand, really suit the car especially due to the fact that they are also gunmetal grey! Hmm, good idea bout the stick-on mirror, that's what my old car had - if all else fails I'll look into it!
-
doxximus - thanx man but the entire mirror is stuffed, I had to bind the metal ball that allows it to pivot in electrical tape to keep it from moving constantly!! Inark - thanx, I'll email them and see if they can get one! I'm betting a U12 Pintara or R31 Skyline/Pintara mirror is similar, I'll have to check some wreckers and find out!
-
Yeah I've noticed many R32's in my travels with the uglier front bar and having looked at so many I've also noticed the sheer number of what seem to be options or model variation for Nissans of that age. Some R32s have blue backed instrumentation, most grey, others black. My friend used to own an R32, his dash illumination was a green colour, mine is red. His had a little draw under the stereo that came outwards when you pushed it, mine has a compartment with a lid similar to the ashtray thingy beneath it. (both '92 models as well) He had front bar with driving lights but it was different to mine, then there is the other Type M front bar with no lights at all...So much variety, no locally delivered car can match it! Do you know how much (approx is fine) it would cost to get a Dr_Drift ECU retune? I'm assuming it would require time on a dyno? thanx!

Inark - I'm from the SE Suburbs, out Emerald way.......Near 'Hello-Hello', Chris and Maries Plant Farm.......*shudder*
-
Hey guyz!! Wow, talk about quick replies! ant95GTR - Thanx man, will check the archives! Inark - spot on, it's got a catback 3.5" exhaust, new steel wheel/ball bearing centre on standard RB20 turbo, dual-stage bleed valve running 12psi low boost, (16 psi high boost is like being fired from a cannon!!!), some kind of fuel cut defender, catch can, HKS BOV and pod.....BUT....no ECU tune. It also has a major flat spot in 2nd at around 3.5k to 4k full throttle (due to ECU no doubt) The mis-fire is kindof like a hiccup if you get my meaning??! Yeah saw the pics of your 32 'line awhile back, recognised that you used to have that same front bar, did you once mention that it is a Nismo item? Hehehehe, mine is *very* low and scrapes on just about anything so I'm gonna have to be careful by the sounds of it!!

Hi all, First time poster, lurked for a while tho....I decided I'd wait until I actually bought a Skyline b4 I posted! So yeah, I'm a long time skyline fan and finally got myself an R32 GTS-t after searching for 18 months. Now that I have one - the obsession has begun! It's gunmetal grey, a genuine low km item, quite a few performance mods, near perfect body and interior - I've attached a pic (observant ppl will recognise it from carsales.com.au), I'm yet to take my own pics, too busy driving it!!! So yeah, I've actually already got a few questions for you knowledgable R32 owners: 1. My rear view mirror - it's loose as a mofo and has flecks of black plastic inside the glass, rung a few Nissan wreckers to see if they had a replacement part, most don't deal with imports....So, anybody know if any other Nissan rear view mirror fits the R32? Or somewhere I can get a genuine item? Was thinking Nissan because they sold the GTR here but I'd imagine they'd be pricey. 2. 4 times now since I've owned the car (just over a week), the engine has sortof mis-fired, each time on light throttle, then runs fine. I was thinking maybe the coils need cleaning? I also plan to reset the ECU as well, could this be another potential solution? 3. How do you guys launch your R32 to get a decent take-off, quick but not tyre-melting (I can manage those it seems!!)? Had a few V6 Common-whores cut me off because the turbo lag caught me unaware!! Well that's it! Hope to go on some VIC cruises some time soon. Cheers, Dave
