  1. Do not take your car to Mercury MotorSport, there are far to many horror stories, including my own to risk taking your car there. I have seen a load of incompetent work being carried out there, seriously it's not worth the headache. I won't elaborate here as it's not really the place to do that, but I have had first hand dealings with them that will leave your jaw hanging on the floor.
  2. Hey mate, I use Next Up Performance at Rocklea and I can say without hesitation these guys will look after you in a very good way. They do not over-charge, and in some cases undercharge and are quick to do small things here and there for nothing. Because of these guys I can afford to do things to my car much more often too now, and I know for a fact these guys are very professional. I am an engineer by trade, and I think I'm pretty good at picking a good workshop without being ripped off. There professionalism in regards to working on your car and checking there own work is great, and you won't find your car being treated anything less than you would treat it yourself. Ryan and John are the two guys who run and work in the workshop, and they are both knowledgeable and friendly to chat to. I had my car worked on by another workshop in Brisbane who were absolutely pathetic beyond belief, and since taking my business to NextUp, my worries were soon gone knowing my car was in there care. These guys are a small operation, but are good at what they do, and I can strongly recommend them to anyone. There is no need to spend tonnes of money at a workshop just because it's big and flashy if you can get the same job done somewhere else, with the same if not better quality for far less money and complications. I have my car in there at the moment getting some cams put in, and needed a fail to start job looked at. The car was fixed within 20mins for basically bugger all money, and now I can get on with my performance upgrades again. The other workshop I used to go to would have charged me thousands for things I didn't even need. I won't go into details about anything else, but lets just say they need to be put out of business. Last time I picked my car up, Ryan had washed it for me just before picking it up because he said it was a bit dusty, and it's such a nice car that it needs to be kept clean. That's the level of care and passion these guys have for not only there own cars, but customers cars. Ring John Desmond on 0438383876. Just say Simon with the white R34 GTR sent you, and he will look after you. If he doesn't answer the first time, just leave a message and he will ring you back nearly straight away. They also have a brand new 4WD dyno now too.
  3. They are moulds to make the fins, then you can cut them to whatever size and shape you want.
  4. I've been doing a bit of research here and there, and my exhaust I think is just at maximum capacity for my setup, it seems on 98 and under 400kw, bloody awesome piece of kit. I would have liked to go the RP 4" version. After researching some more on the -10's topic too, I think I'll stick with the -5's and be happy with what I've got. A new set of semi's, a brake bleed, and I'll be all good to try the QR clubsprint record again. It's just QR is so setup for big HP over handling, hence the reason I was thinking -10's. Although I'm only 6/10's off the club-sprint record holder, and he is running an R32 with 50kw more. That was my first track day out there with only 15 laps, so maybe a bit more drive time might help.....lol. -5's seem as they are pretty much one of the best turbo choices for track duties, hands down. The -7's seem good to for a bit less power and super response.
  5. Cheers mate, I wish I was buying it, because I would have bought it by now........lol.
  6. Come on guys, this is brilliant exhaust, that is not about shiny bits of blingy metal to look cool etc, it;s a real performance exhaust that's for making real HP and keeping it quiet and legal at the same time. I can't believe no-one wants this. Put a new shiny 4"-5" tip on the rear muffler, and it will look as good as gold. Make an offer if you think it's too dear. Remember, it's selling for 25% of it's original price at the moment, it's a bargain.
  7. Here are the pictures of the beast. I cleaned the pipes up a bit before these photos, and they can be painted with high temp paint before install. The rear muffler needs to be cleaned a bit better with some degreaser or something, as it is quite shiny underneath.
  8. No I have never had it DB tested because RacePace Melbourne have already done all of that R&D and is completely road legal and under 96db, all of the hard work has been done by them on this one. I have made 400kwatw easily with this system, and that's with 2860-5's. Just ring me for more info mate, happy to help you out.
  9. I am selling my beloved Cat back custom made RacePace exhaust system. This exhaust is super quiet, and super high flowing. This will keep the cops off your back without sacrificing power. I have had to upgrade my exhaust to something else as I'm now going over the 420KW-450KW mark. This exhaust system is awesome up to this power level, and it's a shame It can't suit my needs anymore, because it's an awesome exhaust system. It's 3.5" pipe all the way, with hand made custom oval mufflers made out of stainless steel. It has a few marks and scuffs underneath, but nothing to worry about that's for sure. The mild steel pipe looks great, and is still in great condition. It's flanged just before the rear muffler and obviously just after the cat. I'm looking for $800, as these new are over $3000 new. This is a super deal for someone wanting one. I would prefer it to be sold to someone in QLD, but I'm guessing a Victorian will be the buyer.......lol. I can help with freight if the buyer wants to organise it, and I'm quite happy to drop it off to any freight depot in Brisbane to make things easier. I can post up some photos early next week. Call Simon on 0408 766 268.
  10. Ash, it's surprisingly not to bad at all even when the exhaust is fully open, and when the thing is shut, which is most of the time, it is just like stock standard. No noise at all. I'm a pretty big fan of it really, and with only one muffler I thought it was going to be too loud. Yeah 4" would have been great, but with front pipes, possibly dumps and the cost of 4" exhausts I just alleviated the muffler problem at the moment. 34hp and 2 pounds of boost is small, not considering the Racepace exhaust is suppose to flow. alleviating that restriction might just help me with a few heat issues I'm having at the track too? I'm trying ot track down an R33 or R34 full radiator shroud to replace the one that was on it, which was only half of one. I've done the radiator to the custom PWR one which RP used at targa, and now completely dealing off the radiator to the front of my car so no air can go around the sides. I'm surprised how many people are running around with inadequate cooling configurations.
  11. I will let you guys know that the custom Racepace 3.5" exhaust does not flow as people may think. I have gained 34hp by changing it to a new setup from the cat back. I'm now running a straight 3.5" pipe from the cat to a 3.5" Varex oval muffler. My boost jumped from 25-27psi too, and my response was seen the whole way across the curve right from 150hp - 546hp. Just thought I would let you guys know. I'm thinking of putting a set of 2871's on with a set of 272deg 9.7mm drop in cams from camtech, what do you guys think for a circuit car? I'm getting the turbos very cheaply and thought if I put them on myself, then why not......lol.

My R34GTR street and track car.
  13. Hahaha, yeah how did that slip my mind.....lol. Yes your dead right with that key bit of info. It feels like a V8 in torque terms with this combo.
  14. I have -5's on my car, and they are awesome to say the least. I'm running it on E85 now, but not for more power, just for reliability over 98. Whilst I have built my own engines and cars throughout my life, I bought my car already modified this time from a really good bloke here on SAU, and all I can say is I'm so glad I bought the right car with all of the suspension mods and big brakes and diff's etc, because the whole GTR experience is all about handling, not power, even though at 400KW it is considered a fair bit for a circuit/street car. Concentrate on your Camber and castor settings with a good set of well tuned coil-overs. RacePace do a nice mod changing the dampening/rebound and spring tension to Tein Superstreets, which are only an entry level item, but they make them into a really good useable street and circuit shock all round, which perform better than some high end items, and they suit the Australian roads very nicely. To stiff shocks on Australian roads can be a disaster waiting to happen. If you understand basic handling characteristics and how a tyre needs to behave on a track surface to obtain maximum grip, then there is a tonne of things to start tinkering with in order to make it drive correctly. A well setup GTR that is focussed on handling is like nothing else. The circuit is a tonne of fun in my car, but the street feels unbelievable, and I would not want anything more done to my car for street purposes thats for sure. My car is pretty much an ultimate GTR for all round driving, and it still demolishes a lot of cars at the track too. Aaron the fellow who built my car through RacePace did a fantastic job in making it nearly exactly to my liking. My advice is to focus on suspension, Diffs, and brakes, and then practice at the track, it is so much more rewarding and fun that just chasing HP your whole life. Everyone these days wants HP and drag times......why, it's just an endless spending venture to see who can piss the furtherest. I used to be a drag nut in my younger years with building my own carbied V8's and learning the science of NA performance engines, but as soon as the one dimensional fun of drag racing was soon becoming old and turning into a spend too much money game, I turned to the real sport of 3 dimensions, circuit racing, I have never looked back. Once you get the circuit bug, you cant shake it very easily at all. I have also become to appreciate so many cars and types because of it too, which is only fuelling my motorsport passion even further. The whole circuit experience is a much better crowd of people IMO, and being able to drive your car fast up the straights, whilst navigating your next turn in point after nailing the perfect braking mark and turning in at 180+KM/HR is just sooo much better than driving in straight lines. I am thinking about changing my coilovers to a set of stiffer items for more circuit work in the near future, and it will achieve better lap times than what it has already achieved, but I will have to be aware and careful on public roads with the unexpected bumps. Anyway, enough of me rambling, but that's just my 2 cents worth. I hope your GTR experience improves, and I can guarantee you with the right handling mods, you will be absolutely gob smacked and amazed at what your car could achieve, even with 300KW. Have fun mate.
