  1. Yeah I'm planing on doing it if I blow this over haul gearbox that I got built for it now 10 g is that what you spent 4 your one how much kW is your car ATM

355kw, more peace of mind for me after shredding 3rd gear, I suspect a triple plate clutch was the culprit. I now use a twin plate coppermix so ppg probably not needed in my case

  2. 3 years into the future but, i'm specialising in metallurgy currently. its by far the most interesting compared to obscure oil and gas crap. though i'm also doing oil/gas pipe corrosion.

    advise?

    guest workers hey?

i'm foreign born, paying that foreign student fees, though i'm set to graduate this dec, am i considered a guest worker? because if i am, then i'll have to drastically lower my expectations.

Its got nothing to do with what I'm talking about, I'm talking about people who want to work in the mines remember? Try and keep it simple! We were all foreigners at some point.

It is a problem on some sites, some top tradesmen I know end up on the dole in an already depleted Manufacturing Industry in favour of guest workers who send there wage's home o/s, I have no personal issue's with them, many are left vulnerable being subject to sponsership, they are decent people.

Oh but they say there's a skill shortage! Well I say train our own if thats the case to fill these so called gaps! It dosn't say much for our education system and it dosn't look like its going to get any better! There are many other people that would love the chance to have an education like yourself.

We just need to be careful that by giving Industry the free ride they want on our own resources that it dosn't bite us in the ass down the track.

  3. I hope there is a drop in utility bill prices, however, you most likely wouldn't see one because prices on goods and services are, along with age and hot air, one of the few things that can defy the adage of "what goes up, must come down". Profit is maximized in a business environment by passing on costs to consumers and retaining savings. Unless the others can offer cheaper rates and create a price war, I'm confident we will see no drop if carbon pricing is scrapped.

Not a lot is going to change for you guys, you've been throffing at the mouth's for nothing. Should of just let it swing to an ETS, were going to go though all this shit again, no more innovation! What a waste of money this green army's publicly funded crowd pleaser is going to be.

I'm at lest 10 years older than you guys and have done well for myself, the biggest ass kick you guys ever got was when Howard introduced the FHOG

  4. Capitalism is simply the nomenclature used when referring to social or economic systems, hence I said it will shine through in any socioeconomic circumstances. The core elements of capitalism are embedded in the nature of all organisms, even those without brains (fortunately for you!)

Humans are nothing more than overly complex animals...and yes...animals will compete for resources and bid to win courtship of the opposite sex, along with status in a group. You best believe they have a primitive form of economy with regards to pecking order and food allocation etc., the foundations of which we base our own, more complicated systems on. But that's just basic evolutionary psychology...it may be a bit advanced for your communist, union-instructed brain, so I recommend some psych 101 before venturing too far into that field.

P.S. Don't forget to vote this weekend...

    Oh wait...

Sounds great! So as far as capitalism goes, have you achieved anything yourself?

Or is it just a pipe dream.

  5. Marx had valid concerns; didn't mean he wasn't a nutcase communist bastard with no real solution for his concerns.

Actually I label anyone who tries to defy the capitalistic nature of human beings, a communist.

As for welfare cuts and work for the dole, bring it.

I dump companys at the drop of a hat in pursuit of better wages and conditions, I have used my capitalistic nature to my own personal advantage, makes me a good little capitalist.

  6. it's funny how people get so upset about this, but when people do it buying goods online it's perfectly fine.......

I don't buy online myself. The over use of 457s will just drive down wages and conditions in many areas which will please many.

The 457s don't have it easy and they can't say boo to their employer in fear of losing sponsership, the locals miss out on jobs they can fill and are overlooked, I'd rather these people employed and putting money back into the community instead of claiming unemployment benifits.

If it was used to fill gaps as intended then fine, dispite recent changers it will be very hard to regulate against any abuse.

  7. So basically they think they can continue to tax the shit out of something that's already been overtaxed in the first place, so that some old ladies have a choice about what time of day their shopping bus arrives to take them out. Gotta love the mentality of "there's plenty of money here, there should be plenty of tax there too". They really are a Labor party with trees growing out of their arses. No wonder cost of living is turning to shit!

The Howard government has the honour of being the highest taxing government in Australia's history, He's also setting records in public spending in his retirerment.

Having worked for Rio Tinto I know only too well that we've already lost Billion's in tax, lots of 457's taking job's away and sending their money back home putting many locals on the dole, who are we really helping here.

  8. I would hate to be starting all over again, I simply couldn't do it. I took on debt early and hit the commercial and housing markets in the late 90s, and never looked back.

I remember when the first home owner grant kicked in it trigger a Boom that just kept going and didnt stop for many years.

People will have their own spin on this but house prices are a big problem, I cant blame people for being pissed off.

  9. I haven't read a post on here bagging out labor for cracking down. Once again you are jumping to conclusions and thinking all posts are bagging out your beloved labor for no reason. Read the posts again and you will see that ash is pointing out that mr sheen, I mean Kevin Rudd, has made up policy on the fly without thinking it through. He changed the carbon tax to gain votes, but in order to do this without leaving a big hole in the budget he had to take money from somewhere else (which all governments do when giving tax cuts, nothing new there). However I don't think labor thought through the effect this would have. The end result is mass layoffs with no warning. This is what everyone is commenting on. Surely even someone as pro labor as yourself can't deny the fact that have been major job losses from this change in policy. You can try and spin it round as a positive as much as you like, saying they are cracking down on tax cheats, but they are responsible for the job losses, plain and simple. No other "cracking down on tax cheats" policy would put so many people out of jobs in such a short period of time, with flow on effects still to come.

    Fair post Marc.

I have my reserves on this policy but its amazing what a 12 week logbook can do, makes you wonder dosn't it.

As far as Loach goes, he dose put up with the pissers and moaners pretty well, you gota give him that!

  10. Does your car run out of puff at 7g because of the Standard cams? Or are the -5's big enoug to give you power all the way to 8g.

No, it still pulls but I just dont seem to need to go much more before changing gears, with the -10s and cams it was ideal to gear down to 2nd gear at 100kph (has PPG gear set) and take it to around 8500rpm before hitting 3rd.

Now at 100kph it feels better to gear down to 3rd gear were it pulls hard and smooth, less work on engine.

  11. which 260s did you have ? would be awsome if you have before and after dyno charts to see the difference between the two cams ?

B type poncams, this was a fresh build at a new workshop, I would love to know myself.

What I did have was -10s with Poncams, Motec M800 at 25psi on Shell 100 octane for a disapointing 350awkw, soon after the engine shit it self.

New setup -5s with stock cams, in went my old power FC with Nismo AFM with just over 20psi on Shell 98 for 355rwkw and so much better to drive, the engine dosn't have to run as hard to make power.

  12. Hey Terry, you know I get stuck into you at times, thats because I think your worth it.

I'm sitting hear stairing at my finger that is black after nearly looseing it several weeks ago on the job, The day stated in a new work inviroment that consisted of me being told to sign 7 swims or Jsa's (Safe work methord statements) without having any chance of reading them and being warned of any danger in this poorly lit area (this is a common practice in industry and is a joke!) No stewards or OH&S reps to be seen, it turns out that one of the floor grates that was known by others to be faulty, gave way when I stood on it, it caused me to fall over and drop a steel grate on my finger.

If anyone want stories of unsafe work practices, I have hundreds! My uncle was a well known Rigger who was killed in a workplace accident in WA some years ago working off a ladder that clearly should have been a scaffolded area.

It would be good if all parties worked in together, in my industry the coalision have nothing to offer on any improvments in workplace safety in the future, elected OH&S Rep's will be in for a hard time in many areas.

  13. Why is it that everytime someone criticises the Labour party or one of its ministers...without even mentioning the opposition...your "defending" of Labour seems to consist only of your own criticisms of Liberals, past or present, as if this bears some excuse for an incompetent or underperforming government?

I'm not saying you can't criticise the Libs, but wow, the timing of it...you sound like a politician trying to draw attention away from the original criticism by pushing the focus onto someone/something else.

That's also only the second time I've ever heard someone refer to Terry in such a negative way on these forums. It might interest you to know that the first instance involved a crazy, racist, anti-everything The land of goat sphincter rings nationalist who has since vacated the premises. If you wanted to bin your last ounce of credibility, as far as accurate perceptions go, you chose the right path!

Firstly, I look up to Terry and know all the good work he dose, really, I think he's a great old codger lol.. Sorry if it offended. After reading it again it didn't come out the way I intended.

Birds, you shouldn't be blown away everytime I make a comment on such topics as you have a pretty good go yourself at times, my comments are directly linked to worker safety and are on topic . This is not a oneway shitfest, we all know it was rolled out way to quick, it was a bad mistake by Labor. The ETU went public on it and nobody listened.

So do we move forward or do we just keep this as a Labor stuffed up thread.

  14. I understand your concern having been an OH&S rep myself and I think it is pertinant of you to point out your opinion about Abbott as it is only a few months till Australia votes on having him as a leader.

What I absolutely do not agree with is your statement about Terry. I have found him to be one of the kindest people I have ever met on a forum. He and I usually seem to have opposing views on politics and I often disagree with the way he argues a point however this is only a small part of who he is. Please have a look through Terry's posts in other threads and you will see the other sides of him. Personally I am so happy Terry is here on SAU as he gave me real help during a difficult time. Please retract the statement about Terry being a "nasty piece of work".

Yeah I read it again and it seemed a bit strong, its more of a term I use as a light harted dig when I'm having a crack at someone so I hope no offence Tezza!

But really, it is a touchie subject, too many uneducated opinions with no real answers for the future. I work from job to job around Melbourne and interstate like a Gypsy in mid to mainly heavy construction in the Metal's Industry, its not for the faint harted.

Unsafe working conditions play a major role in my life, I've seen more injurys and breaches of the Act that anyone would care about, if you really want to protect workers safety, slamming Rudd is not going help us, Abbott has done nothing but try and wind down the Act and restrict representation, The Coalition have not further plans for improvement, OH&S is to expensive for them. Nothing to look forward to in this department, it will just demise further.

  15. Coroner slams Rudd's Home Insulation Scheme > "...directly responsible for the deaths of four young men."

    "...should have been foreseen."

And to think that 8+ warnings went off to PM Rudd before the first death!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Gasp...

That may be true Terry and nice to hear you hold the ETU with some regard, I think you are a Chemist of sorts yeah, I'm an active Tradesman and on occations an elected OH&S Rep.

In short, under section 23 of the OH&S Act it states that an employer is responsible for the employees not to be exposed to risk to their health and safety, also in the Act it calls for adequate training. Not a single comment on this from Abbott who has always been the shonky employers greatest friend.

As the Industrial Relations minister I know only to well how hard Abbott went in to constently undermind the Act and water it down and try to reduce tranning, and as a Rep make it almost impossible to represent the workforce and keep them safe without breaking some law, as a casual worker you have no hope. I cringe when I hear him speak on this matter.

You really are a nasty peice of work Terry with very little knowledge of the big picture, just the usual muck racking and nasty cynicism that has creped into society of late.

  16. Howard set this up years ago when in office and it has been used as a measuring stick for employment figures ever since, old news!

I work in construction, your University scoring means Jack Shit! Sorry.... You have to have the right personality to start with and be able to earn it on the job. After reading some of your post, I dont think its going to happen for you.

Good luck with your search anyway!
