  1. sorry forgot to mention, i need a new block because im fussy as hec, my old block went through a beating and was damaged it might need a line bore and the bores are slightly damaged needed bad honing and now the size is like 86.8mm i think if memory serves me correct. Also because im rebuilding i want to use a fresh block, rods and pistons and new rings and bearings and new oil sprayers the old oil sprayers have bits of block stuck in them because the flywheel was dual mass and not balanced it wore the bearings so badly it walked and the counter weights ate up the block facing not enough to damage the bearing seats on the main journals but im still not happy . same with the head was also damaged on the cam journals so i bought a new head because the cost of line boring the head cam journals was almost the same cost as a bare new head
  2. ok fair enough point taken, i am going to buy a standard size set of mains and big end acl bearings baring in mind that the crank and block are new it should be with in spec. but before i get shouted at lol im going to make sure i mic each journal and also check each block journal and also plastigauge it to make sure its all correct. check twice assemble once . Now i need to get one other factor checked the acl series race bearings have a X range is this for more clearance ? or is this a smaller bearing ? thankyou for the info ? off topic but on engine assembly do i really need to use a dummy head torque plate to hone bores if it has already been factory bored on a new block ? like what tomei does, or should i assemble the motor as is ?
  3. In more ways then one my questions have been answered and i would like to say a big thankyou to you all for contributing to what i thought would be a small response. So To answer some other questions other forum members have asked yes you can get different grades of bearings from NISSAN japan. So meaning that on a std crank size or what we would assume is a standard crank size, there is say 6 journals for the conrods to sit on and 7 mains for where the crank is held in place by the block. So now each journal at the Nissan factory has to be polised and cleaned nice and shiny so that there is a smooth surface for the crank to glide on if it were rough it would mean oil would get trapped and damaged and also get hot because it would not be easily moved by facilitation of the smooth surface of the bearing surface and crank surface (this is my understanding) and hence the linishing part comes in. So never less before i bore you guys to death. I was looking for a explaination as to why Acl doesnt make a graded bearing. Though we have the likes of Nismo Nissan Oem and others as well that sell graded bearings. The crank, that im going to be using is a new crank and so is the block. But now comes the tricky part does this process of using graded bearings use only the crank stamp on the end weight to confirm the bearing grade ? or do i have to use the block as well. Or is it so that the crank stamp is for the bearings on the conrods and the bearings to be used on the crank mains are graded using the block stamp ? Very confusing i think i should look at the rb26dett rebuild manual to confirm . So never the less it is better to use a graded bearing, on the rather larger size if the engine is going to be reving quite hard and high then to use a standard across the board one bearing fits all (STD) cranks ??? And hence i come to the assumption that standard bearings are for when you have a regraded crank that is still close to standard and you would put std acl race or acl duraglide bearings in this type of application? Maybe im wrong and in a way this a question to settle all the questions that have been asked in the past and present on the forum. In a few months im going to be ordering a brand new crank shaft, and brand new block and will need to order a graded set of bearings to suit. thankyou again for your time and patience and input some superb answers
  4. OK so im here with loads of questions or should i say one big question. So im getting ready to build my skyline engine with some good knowledgeable people at hand . And there are some debates i have had with people some i have spoken to and some i have emailed and some messaged the list is endless. So i am going to have a brand new N1 24U block from Nissan. And a Brand new rb26dett crankshaft balanced and stamped with graded bearings numbers on the end !!!!! So i have been asking the question for a while now and have not seen any core evidence. Nissan makes graded bearings and installs these from factory . They stamp the crank and the block with the bearing grades to be installed new from factory. Nismo makes graded bearings which can be ordered for high performance uses. Acl makes bearings in 3 different sizes ranging from STD to over size etc. Then we have tomei who contracted acl to make bearings for them graded as well !!!!! suprise surprise, so why doesnt acl sell graded bearings ???? good question? Now from what i have heard when builders talk of building they say put together a standard new crank with a standard set of shells from ACL. Now nissan if they wanted to cut costs would install the same one size fits all type bearings per say for a NEW crank shaft to save time and money, but instead they install a graded bearing scheme that costs more in time and money then throwing in a standard size shell because of a known size on a crank ? So why would nissan do this if they can save time and money ?? My question is if i am installing a new crank and block should i get graded bearings ? if not why should i get a STD set of Acl race bearings ? Im sure these questions can be asked my many out there and im sure they are all also wondering so to help me out and get some ideas of the reasons behind all these methods please help out and try give me some insight ? No flaming at my question and no asking if i had used search because i searched and searched and found nothing pertaining to the answer ? Why does Nissan use a graded bearing scheme and aftermarket builders use a STD bearing scheme to build an engine ? thankyou in advance ?
  5. Alkatraz, im killing my self with a huge grin, you right about everything, im not phased about the Collectors edition part cause in all honesty as long as this car has a nur block the rest really doesnt matter. Im going to fix it, when i get the block, pistons and rods, and bearings and rings and then assemble it and enjoy the car God forbid that something else doesnt go wrong. Im certain that wont happen this time but you never know . Any ways i have been offered a nur spec engine from Another seller and im seriously considering buying it as i feel its a good offer from the seller . Its taken me this long to get up to speed and im not looking for an all out balls to the walls car,. All i want is a nice enjoyable gtr34 and a gtr32 seam welded for the track days that will be the project beast car lol. I not scared to build a rb26 any more and i have ordered a rb26dett rebuild video, any one fancy a copy of this from the heart of Japan ? i cant wait to drive my car again im tired of looking at it sitting in the garage. Thanks for all your comments good and bad doesnt matter and as this is a open conversation on a forum i feel everyone is entitled to say what ever they want . Thanks guys again for taking time to read and post up.
  6. Thanks Mr Stabby. I have the original block although it has a hole in it !! although it has the original engine number on it . I have just been offered one of those nissan rebuilt Nur spec engines not sure wether to buy or carry on with my build . This is one of the block numbers with a R and X on it ..... So essentially not sure what to do ... Any ways thanks for the comments appreciate it loads . Next up got my Viton valve stem seals and have my new head so have to port the exhaust humps and do valve clearances then i can build and wrap awaiting the block and bottom end. will post pics of the progress .
  7. its interesting cause most posts say that you dont get one to reach the center bearings and there fore you have to use plastigauge to get a clearance .????
  8. check this out i never thought it possible.... a dial bore gauge that reaches the center bearing ? http://www.tomei-p.co.jp/_2003web-catalogue/fr_set-from_top-menu/fr_index-com-eng2.html Im amazed, the japs think of everything ....
  9. Lol i love the response. And i appreciate your comments. MrStabby i have been through alot please dont rub my face in the dirt, lol its me im the one who wanted to sell the car, and Nine is the guy emailing me telling me the car isnt worth anything any more because its been trashed. Honestly, i have been through thick and through thin i have and share the same passion as all the gtr owners around the world, including the owners on skylinesaustralia. The cars are the best simply put. And all i want is to enjoy my car, i want to be a part of the crown again, call it peer pressure. i miss have a Nissan skyline, yes its there parked in the garage but its not a skyline with out a engine. Its been a long road, and at the end of it all i have had many a misfortune, ran bearings, rodded a block thanks to a previous engine builder no sweat racing from johannesburg south africa, and well here i am wanting to build my own engine something i never dreamt of beacause i thought there was always going to be a engine builder i could trust. But in theory there isnt so i would rather learn myself and build myself so that i can be proud and in the loop. And at the and of it all i can help other skyline owners build there engines . I am going to throw a gtr Nur spec block in 24U all the way. Thanks again all . Adam
  10. Hello everyone, Hope you lads are all ok. I have a question related to the limited edition cars out there any of which i have a example of a situation of ? http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/145323-v-spec2-nur-collectors-item-2.html#post1386410 In saying this the said car is going to have a 24U block from Nissan installed and the car is going to be up and running . But i keep getting emails from this one guy stating the car is no longer a Nur spec and is no Longer limited edition because it doesnt have the original block ? Im not sure how to take this but this said person is telling me to install a grt32 engine in the car and sell it as quickly as possible because he feels it fit to do so lol?? Any ways after reading the link to gtr.co.uk what makes a car limited edition car ? Is replacing the engine block with a new engine block from Nissan japan with a 24U N1 unit keeping the norm and making sure the car still retains its "Limited edition status" Baring in mind the owner "me" still has the original block with the hole in the side which can be sold with the car if i ever do sell ? but i have decided to keep it and build it back to a standard spec or using a N1 block as a basis ? Please let me know your thoughts and comments would like to see how australians take it and what approach aussies have over the English lol. Cheers adam
  11. Have called customs they say they have never imported an engine with out a engine number before, so i have been thinking about this and thinking really hard infact even had some sleepless nights about this too, want to contact nissan and prove to them i own the car reg books etc etc, then make a special request to purchase a engine block from them with my original engine number, considering this car is a vspec II and my original engine block has a hole in it i cannot use it at all, so if i say i am a collector and want to maintain the car as it was from factory and tell them that i cannot use the old engine block and will need another one is it possible for them to stamp it with my original engine number after production ? I know they are a big corporate but surely in japan when some one with a car has a problem they take it to nissan they repair the car, after that im sure they have replaced the block with another and it is stamped before it goes into the car and im sure its the same engine number that the original engine block was ? Ideally i need some one in japan that can request from Nissan what they do under the circumstances of a catastrophic engine failure and how they deal with engine numbers, in the uk it doesnt mean anything because the only things that are important in the uk are the fact that the chassis number is intact what a bummer. So my only choice is to write a proposal so my one supplier has requested submitt and hope for the best ? Can any one else shed some ideas and what they would do in this same position ?
  12. Best to take a pic and post it so everyone can see then you wil and im sure will get a answer!!
  13. Good point will give them a call, but from experience from people out there that have done this is it possible for nissan to stamp the block from the factory ? or am i asking for the impossible ? I dont really know what the normal procedure is so hence im asking, and if nissan cant stamp it what have guys in Aussie done ? have they imported and stamped original engine number into a new fresh block ?
  14. I want to buy a bare block or even possibly a sub assembly, jus the bottom end with the rods crank pistons and rings and bearings and block from Nissan ? So i enquire get a price from two suppliers in Japan, they mention that, this bare assembly block and or the short block assembly comes with out a engine number ? Or serial number. So this is great if that means i can stamp my original engine number on the block as it is going to be a nur engine, being placed in a Nur car .... But my customs officials wont be happy that i have imported an engine from Nissan that doesnt have a engine number or a block that doesnt have a engine number /Serial Number on its name plate/serial plate? By rights that should mean that i can request Nissan Japan to Stamp the block with my original block number proving i own the car ? As the first block that came in the car has a hole in it ?? Conrod through the block ? What should i do or what would you guys do ?.???? Should i request original nissan documention with the sale from the suppliers stating a New bare block from nissan with no engine number then stamp it here ? Or request and insist on the engine number being put on by nissan japan to original engine Number as the old one has died ?
  15. Thanks for your replies. I am not aiming for big horse power i just want a decent 500 550 bhp. My dilema is as follows, this last motor i got was bought from a company called Flatwell racing in Japan. They have said no warranty on the engine blah blah i think i need to start a new post about that and see how many others have bought engines from them and see which have failed and which havent. Any ways the engine crank walked ate up block caused oil contamination and hence i have a stuffed head and block and crank and bearings and oil pump and turbos the list is endless......... realy endless. So i went to have a look at a head today and it didnt make sense for me to buy it as i have a complete motor thats stuffed. and the head was second hand etc etc. Im wanting new parts ... Pistons and rings And block And crank standard bearings Head and cams Oil pump tomei and rods So thats a complete unit literally which i think i might have to just get from Just jap But for the same price as a Nur engine i can use a 24U block, forged H beam rods and forged pistons, tomei oil pump and some of the best parts around and still keep the car a limited edition car as the pistons are weak for high Hp and nor are the rods and nor is the oil pump so for what i want im certain this will be a good plan. Let me know some ideas of what you guys think and then possibly i can have it built in japan. and then shipped here.,
  16. Thanks for the information, believe it or not my last block is ok just the bores are now close to 86.5 roughly as they were eaten by the debree from oil sprayers and oil contimination. yes i understand the fundamentals of having some one good build the engine and test it but not sure thats entirely true, instead i have found a good builder here he has built lots of engines, 2jz and ca18det and also rb25s and rb20dets so he seems to be in the know how. But he has recommended we not use the block incase its warped and there isnt a good enough machine shop to check here. So i need a new block and extras. Thanks in advance and cheers still looking if any one has anything?
  17. or maybe some one with a newer system can give it a shot and tell me if they get anything ?
  18. what version are you using ? Was thinking of getting a new 2009 jdm version and see if that works ?
  19. hey doesnt matter what people know or dream about in terms of max Hp figures i just need a new block and parts . Thinking of using a good new N1 block then filling it with some forged internals from tomei, H beam rods and Channel cooling pistons and titanium coated piston rings and a standard crank. What do you guys think ? Was also going to use a good Tomei oil pump. Cheers thanks Adam
  20. Hello i have a vpsec II Nur but the fast system i have wont give me the info i need unless i use other citeria model and other selections as well. Vin Num GGJPRWYR34ZDAAGV-D Model Bnr34-403880 Please let me know which fast you are using also .Mines pretty old but newer then 2002 thats for sure so surely the car should be in there. Thanks in Advance
  21. I did email them and got a response stating they can sell it but dont ship outside of australia will need to get a weight so i can work out a shipping cost. Im still searching if any one has anything let me know, cheers and thankyou for all the input and helpfull info you guys rock, keep it up.
  22. if any one else has links or contact into nissan japan please help shed some light here i really would like to know what their game plan is so that i can plan my game plan lol. thanks in advance
  23. If there is any one else who has one and is prepared to ship to me in africa and i can pay via bank transfer as zimbabwe is a problem doing any payments via paypal etc. Thanks again for the link look forward to hearing from someoone who can help out . Ps how do i clean this dam thing out ???? Please let me know as when i put my motor back together i dont know how to clean it and dont want all the junk inside my new motor ?
  24. Thankyou for all your comments and info . I had a engine in the car, that one ran bearings, was rebuilt died had a conrod through the block after being rebuilt by a builder in South Africa, and then i got a reconditioned engine from nissan that i slapped into the car and it ran for 1200kms and also ran bearings because of improper clutch adjustment and some other factors i over looked not taking out plugs when priming the engine etc etc...... So now i dont want to use the old block as the crank walked and ate up the block a bit journals are fine untouched but the fact the crank was beating the block means ....... not a good foundation. So essentially i need a complete motor block and head or just good short block assembly. is this possible ? Any one out there have somethin new for my Vspec II Nur car that needs a nur engine ? cheers Adam
