Well as far as I can tell most of it is surface rust, if not most of it can be replaced underneath, I'm just not sure about that Strut Tower? Is it possible to replace it?

Okay so the story goes, we bought this GTS-4 for just a bit over $6k from NSW, it had had pinkslips and he was going to give us one also (he didnt). We take it home (VIC) anyway and take it to our mechanic who puts it up on the hoist and says nah its got chassis rust, its a write off. It's rusted through the struts and they just bogged over top so you couldn't see it. Theres rust underneath in the chassis. We took it to another mechanic (my mothers boyfriend), he put it up on a hoist and said most of it underneath is surface rust. This is the rear facing the diff. This is the Strut Tower I'm considering options currently, theres a LITTLE rust on the chassis underneath that I can see that will either have to be cut out and welded, but the rest looks like removeable items like the crossmember and diff? Regarding the strut I was thinking buy a front cut minus engine and cut out the struts in that and replace the rusted ones with those, it would have to be engineered though which is fine. Any thoughts guys? It's been sitting in my driveway for 4 weeks now and we're not sure what to do. Its either the above or scrap it for 2k, selling it in parts is not an option. The car is in IMMACULATE condition on the outside and inside and drive train, just not underneath. Cheers guys, Borci88.

Like I said in your other thread on Calais Turbo, what series is this car as it has a Series 1 Interior, Series 1 rear garnish but a whole Series 2 front end? Does it have one airbag making it a Series 1.5 which would make sense.

Was hidden under perfectly laid down Bog, I thought about it when I was inspecting it but it didn't look dodgy enough for me to question the guy's father about it, the seller wasn't there of course he was just "out" according to the parents, should have rung alarm bells then but yeah... we're stuck in this mess now and find out soon if we have an easy way out! Oh and underneath the chassis, well yeah 12am will do that to you.

Been dicked on a skyline already, getting rid of it and getting a new one, budget stretched to 9 grand for a non turbo skyline, pm me!

Yeah I posted one page back but that was through our mechanic, took it to a proper body shop that's been in the business for over 30 years and he just looked at it and said its f**ked and you're a f**king idiot for buying it. It has rust in the front strut towers, all throughout the floor pan and in the boot as well, its too big of a job they have all agreed and a new chassis would be the only way to continue. It was bought privately from interstate (NSW) without a Roadworthy/Pink Slip, it has gotten pink slips in the past which is incredibly dodgy as without a doubt this hasn't just sprung up overnight. Currently it's not in our name we still have the transfer papers but we have paid the money to the previous owner. Waiting on a call from the previous owners father to find out if we're getting a refund or have to take them to court. I'm tipping the latter. If anyone want's to know the outcome of what happens here and if I keep looking for skylines after this situation just let me know and I'll keep you posted. Cheers all, Borci88.

Mechanic found all rust in the chassis. all that money down the drain, if he doesn't refund then off to court we go.

Skyline is now confirmed as a write off, f**king gutted like you wouldn't believe, I've driven it for one weekend and now no more.

99% Sure we went to PromechA to do our KX80 bike rear shock, lets just say we left unsatisfied, took it back for a second rebuild for him to fix his mistakes, to this day it still leaks and makes a squelchy sound everytime it compresses, use at your own discretion.

Don't think a mechanics gonna travel interstate, if he wants to bring it then bring it. I'm only young and this is all my savings gone, may be young and dumb but I will fight for it no matter what. We will fight tooth and nail until the court gives up on us, we have a case, we just have to prove it.

Oh definitely, I have already been told to chase after the previous workshops who did the roadworthies, but if the seller doesn't want to give it up I dont think I have much of a leg to stand on to chase them. Edit: Sounds great I'd appreciate that funky, problem is we have nowhere to store the car for now so this car sits in the driveway because its unregistered while dad's car sits out on the street, don't have the time to part it out unfortunately.

Maybe so but its 7 grand down the drain, dont think we're not going to fight tooth and nail over this, I just checked the last email he sent me and it contains: "It is still registered and roadworthy but yes the pink slip I have from getting it registerd last will come with the car." How do you think I stand on this now?

Private sale, sold with Rego but no roadworthy, if he doesn't give us a refund we will be taking him to court as he has already broken the law without a roadworthy, deceiving us on top of that, it was imported by him two years ago and now the chassis is riddled with rust, he lives in NSW which has yearly inspections, how does something like this not get picked up on, also considering taking the place he got a roadworthy at to court, thoughts? Mechanic has found chassis rust scattered all over it so it is essentially trash, we can fix it, but that would require a new chassis, not really any of those lying around so this car has now become a lemon. Unless anyone knows where I can get just a chassis it wont be back on the road again, I bought the car for less than 8 grand and I see just a chassis going for 7k, not likely this will ever be fixed.
