cool little car! would be an absolute monster at khanas and tight tracks... good value I reckon but I know nothing about 80's Renaults can you imagine being in there with a nav/passenger, it would be like they were sitting on your lap lol
-
E36 325i http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/privat...id=127EEE6FF713 doesn't look too bad... could probably get a 32GTSt or S13 for the same price that would be much quicker though too many options... maybe I should just man up and throw some tyres on the R.......
-
Like the early turbo touring cars that had a knob on the dash for fuel mixture... rich one way, lean the other!
-
no trailers or tow cars sorry:(
-
totally agree, if I was going to go Jap import I would just get a turbo... no point paying jacked up P plater prices for an N/A
-
what are the FWD like at 'khanas... fun? I just did 4000km through france and italy in a new Peugeot 206 1.4 diesel... and it was surprisingly fun... it pulled pretty well for such a small motor and would still comfortably accelerate at 130-150km/h (average cruising speed on Italian highways) it was a bit soft in the twisty stuff but as long as you didn't push to hard it was quite capable
-
oooh but if I get a hatch I can talk my wife into believing its her new car... that way I don't have to register a 3rd car... "don't worry about those bars in the car sweety, they're there for you to hang the shopping from"
-
thanks for that, I'll keep an eye open... I just have a bit of a hatchback phobia... but hell if I'm prepared to jump in an MX5 I should be willing to try a fwd hatch I'll just have to get a massive sticker made up "my other car is a GTR" lol
-
hit the nail on the head there! I don't want to be tempted to buy any shiny things for it... or feel bad that I didn't change the oil or wash it... I just don't want to pay a premium for an N/A just because its P plate legal now and all the 18yr olds want to pretend they're in a turbo import
-
can't be any more girly than me... I'm considering buying an MX5 for the track so I can keep my 600hp GTR for posing... what a douche! my own fault though... decided to go to europe for 2 months with the missus and now I'm broke... but can't get rid of that motorsport itch... its been too long and I can't seem to shake it... stupid expensive hobby... playing golf instead just doesn't cut it, even if I drive to the course like Senna I want to go up to Deca this weekend to take some photos... but it will just make me jealous of everyone out there having fun to the OP... is it fun your after or times? if you really like a bit of sliding stay with a GTSt or silvia... GTR aren't as much fun from that perspective... I used to love sliding my old GTSt but the GTR has too much power and grip, when it lets go its just scary and you need a heap of speed and commitment to slide it so if anything goes wrong its going to end up a lot worse than your car looked!
-
most stuff on the hondas is smaller than skylines (maybe not silvias)... wheels, tyres, brakes, exhausts etc seem to be cheaper due to size... obviously when you start talking turbo kits, electronics and forged engines its pretty similar... still buying 4 of everything is cheaper than buying 6
-
a falcon six hey... I like the idea but kinda want someting small/nimble as a bit of a change... been in long wheel base cars for years... cheers for the suggestion tho, i never would have thought of that and yes shiny bits are out I'm afraid... this will be the kind of car that when something breaks you see how many more laps you can do before it catches fire;) still I'm surprised nobody has stood up for the old E30... great cars, I've driven a few and some 5 series from the same era and they're lots of fun still european and budget don't really sit well together
-
haha too true... the missus likes the GTR but if I do any spirited driving she complains that her neck hurts from trying to keep her head upright! lol she has never referred to it as 'cute' however
-
yeah considered a Civic but for motorkhana type stuff nothings worse than understeer... major fun killer seen some impressive results from pretty basic civics tho... prices for aftermarket Honda parts are much cheaper than skylines/silvias etc
-
the beauty of the MX5 over Silvias is there plenty of ones out there that have been reasonably well looked after... I just showed my wife a pic of an MX5 andasked her what she thought... her reply was "its cute, is it fast"... me "not really"... her "well why do you want it then"... lol she may have a point...

definitely no motor swaps on the cards... I was just wondering why its not more popular Alfas are great but I'm just wary of them from a reliability point of view... my old man has had many over the years and they aren't cheap to fix... but then again would be no worse in that area than the E30 I thought about 32GTSt but everyone asks stupid prices for them or they have rubbish mods (or both) and at the end of the day its a turbo RWD so will go through tyres and I'll end up upping the boost or doing something silly with it Had a 33GTSt and they're great but too heavy for what I want... I want sub 1200kgs... sub 1000kgs would be ideal if I was to go turbo it would be an S14... but I don't want another turbo... I wanna have some n/a fun... I like AE86's too but the prices people want for them are hilarious
-
cheers Roy... I've always wondered why more people don't put rotors in them! a 20B N/A would be interesting...

hi motorsport heads! as seems to be a pretty common thing to do I went and bought a super clean GTR with all the fruit early in '09... I was intending to track it like my old 33GTSt but other priorities have gotten in the way and now I've grown attached to it I'm a bit gunshy about taking it out on the track... I've never been able to take a car out and treat it nicely, red mist descends and I always end up thrashing the thing to within an inch of its life (and often beyond) sooo I want to keep the R as a street car... its a bit loud, thirsty, harsh and demonic for normal people on the street but I have something wrong with me so I enjoy driving it... even at the speed limit... yes I'm a little strange but my mum says I'm just special I'm not really concerned with times, I just want to have some fun again but don't want to constantly worrying about 'what that noise is'... something I can use for autocross, motorkhana stuff as well as some track work... something that's easy on brakes and tyres and isn't too nice to be left on the street as we only have a 1 car garage anyway enough drivel... I've narrowed it down to an early Mazda MX5 or an E30 325 BMW... both can be had for 5-7K and will let me throw some cash at setting it up for the track (Your probably thinking why the girls cars, well its all about the corners!... 99% of cheap trackday thrashers are going to feel slow in a straight line after getting out of the R anyway) I need your opinion peoples... which one? I'm open to other suggestions as well but the criteria are: sub 10K RWD N/A light as fark easy(ish) to work on road registered ps. does this make me gay?
-
you really get hassled and stress about driving it? I drive mine nearly every day and nobody even bats an eyelid... I pretty much get ignored and I like it that way... IMO getting rid of the personalised plates helped as well that said I don't drive Fri Sat night and try to avoid the 'hotspots' I just spent a packet traveling so don't have the coin to track it at the moment but I still enjoy driving it... even at the speed limit;) I say keep it... if yours is the one I'm thinking about you put a heap of time and effort into getting it right... unless your desperate for the cash tuck it away until you get motivated again... my 2c
-
haha im in france at the moment and i swear I've seen people doing all of the above at the same time while driving a car/riding a scooter!
-
cheers mate but I can't take credit, they were on it when i bought it... BBS LM are no longer in production I believe, someone correct me if I'm wrong tho?
-
answer = all of them;) wish I wasn't going to be OS for this, been meaning to hit the 1/4 for a run
-
sif heal and toe on a skid pan... compression lockup is almost as good as using the handbrake;)
-
no this is a pretty pointless thread... rwd has more potential to run the quicker time but the awd will be easier to setup and more consistent at this power level there will be umpteen problems both will face before they even get a proper side by side run that both are happy with... even then the loser will have a million drag racers excuses
-
I totally understand the ideology of using cheap parts that may not last as long as the high quality (expensive) parts... and just being prepared to replace them when they break etc... throwing wrecker bottom ends in instead of going the rebuild route for example... often that way can work out cheaper in the end... however I would hate to see those rims fail and have you put the 35 into a barrier... the whole cost argument goes out the window then forgetting lap times, anything that keeps you on the black stuff is where you want to throw the cash first... in my humble opinion:) very good of you to report the cracks tho... too many times these sort of threads go unfinished as the OP never comes back to give the full story
