  1. This doesnt help much though but a few wrx members have bought old commo's for track work and have registered them under classic historic . Around $100 a year and allowed to drive to and from events and repairs/maintenence , they to have to be a member of a cams approved club and require ANY cams licence . Car has to be road worthy but doesnt require a RWC . adam
  2. make that 4 skylines now. Ill be flagging at calder so i will say hi snowman . adam
  3. Hey skyliners , next rexie club event is at winton on the 25th and i know 2 skylines are entered anyone else planning the trip up? . adam
  4. Due to a few SAU members turning up to the calder evant i though i would just post up the details as there are 3 entrants for saturdays club day Lee Wilson A Nissan Skyline Patrick Yu A Nissan Skyline Frank Piccioni A Nissan GTR Franks car is a real weapon and is well driven usually resulting in the fastest time for the day ( rexy boys are close though) , if you want to see a well modified R33 GTR in action it could be well worth the effort. adam
  5. Ive got an older type bosch lambda metre that i use for circuit racing and find it a great source of information and a long with an oil pressure guage would be a must have in big doller skylines being used on the track . Definatly saved my EJ20 when the fuel pump was about to die as the mixtures started to lean quickly and i just took my foot out of it. Word of caution however only the big doller ( ie motec) sensors have heat correction as i found with mine after 3 laps it heats up and reads a leaner figure but as soon as you cruise it for half a lap and reapply the throttle mixtures are correct again . adam adam
  6. Hey snowman , their are a few quick white GTR's but the one at sandown is owned by frank and he attends pretty much all our meetings . His car has been developed over 2 years and is usually the quickest on the power tracks but the twistie track ( winton) the rexes are right their. Franks a bit of a character and hasnt heard of the word "lift off" as that GTR is always pointing in a wrong direction , its got around the 320 rwkw at its disposel and its taken a few blow ups to get it reliable. If you guys need to know whats involved in getting the 33 GTR race ready and reliable have a chat to him . adam ps dont forget your bank book cause these arent cheap cars to maintain .
  7. Obviously there is a restriction going on here somewhere , you have eliminated the zorst but what about the air filters? or the intake rubber pipes? ive seen a few absolutly kill power . Also do i understand this properly , the car makes 200hp atw regardless of boost? ( upto 18psi) so on low boost say 10psi its still at 200hp?. adam compressor surge is very audiable so im presuming you would have noticed this.
  8. Hey guys , i meant calder my mistake . Emre i saw you working on the car but it looked like you had your hands full so i didnt want to hassle you ( been in those shoes), . Snowman , i am a regular at the meetings ( not this one though even though with race brakes their should be a good one) . The rex club is pretty good especially the motorsport part of it as you will find they are all like minded poeple with very few fools , thats why im still their . I usually race an ol' VL commo but have been using the RS lately . Our next event is at sandown or winton , if your keen on some more info pm me. adam. I also thought VicSAU was getting ready for track days ? , if you guys are stuck i can point you in the right direction to meet the cams requirements.
  9. I wasnt racing for this one , but saw a few nice skylines . Also I mean CALDER  Franks white R33 GTR was absolutly flying and i think would have won the day easily posting in the 63 sec bracket . AVO had a strong R33 gts t which sounded great and had plenty of straight line . A black/purplish R33 GTR with black GTR rims was out but seemed to have ignition dramas later in the day . Also a grey R33 gts t which seemed to have a constant misfire but toughed it out all day . Its good to see these cars on the track and i know the rexie boys are always keen on watching their progress adam
  10. I agree with you SK regarding the distorted reading especially on idle as the car fluctuates between 14.7 and 16 depending on how much wind their is . The lambda sensor i use is valued at a little over 1k but is a few years old now and i fear is just not accurate enough . ac
  11. I realise this question is generic , but how many of you guys tune your cars with a lambda sensor fitter to the tail pipe . I had one recently fitted on a track day and noticed the the more laps i did the leaner the car got , once the car cooled down mixtures were back at their targets . Upon further questions to people i found that the cheaper units arent very accurate especially when they get hot and usually read leaner than the mixture . I thought that this way of measuring mixtures would be the best however am i wrong? or are the good lambda meters ie motec , worth their weight in gold? adam
  12. While comments are appreciated i dont see how that is constructive to this discussion . Even though i will NEVER attempt this on a car i owned i am interested to see how the car goes , wether its quicker , makes power or in fact hangs a rod! to some poeple this might seem a stupid way of making power but i can see the fun in it. ac
  13. whistla , wasnt having a go about the times i realised you where a novice with a car not running right. Im guessing you are a member of PIARC or similiar? , its always good to see other makes of car besides WRX's ( i had the RS in the avater) but i usually race a VL 5ltr (spun bearing atm) at all the rex events as they are very well run and organised . I was planning to come up and say hi but had a few things on the day to do . adam
  14. I would agree that anything under 1.30 would be a decent car with a competent driver . As a guide the quickest standard class WRX ( use of azenis tyres allowed) ran in the 1.30's and the driver of this vehicle is very quick. I would hope/expect that a well driven GTS r33 would/should be able to match these times. The R33 was well off the pace that day so most likely had some mechanical dramas. adam
  15. Noticed a burgandy R33 with a black bonnet on sunday while we where competing at the rex club event at sandown on sunday and wondered wether he was from this site , have seen his times yet but it seemed decent. adam
  16. If set up correctly VF34 can get you to 200 kw atw(4) some have reached 215 kw, at a recent AVO dyno day 4 cars using this turbo all passed this mark 2 rexes a forester and a RS and its a bolt on to all these models and a around the 1k mark . They are the OEM turbo for the bug eye sti . Inark is correct that the my99-00 hasnt dropped down to 20k yet as the ruffer ones are at 22k , but 2 friends have recently purchased my99 boxes for around 2k and they fit all older subies with the EJ20 motor. adam
  17. The rex boxes espec 99-00 mdl are quite decent and able to hold 200kw atw , however button clutches and repeated launches will make short work of them . Bang for buck and after reading the post on this site about money spent on skylines to get a r32 gts to 200kw atw and a rexy to the same power , rexy wins by a fair bit ex. Power FC 1.1k VF34 turbo 1k zorst .7k air filter kit .2k This combo run on close to 20psi would would be able to just reach that target ( has been done in a few rexies and even a RS) however anymore power and injectors, cooler , clutch , box would all require upgrade/replacement. puts on flame suit and stands with extinguisher at the ready
  18. 26.7 is a good time around that track for a mild skyine . My RS runs in the high 29s which also has mild mods but im back there on queens birthday long weekend along with the rex club to try and better that. adam
  19. Having owned a low 11 sec VLt a few years ago , i can offer my perspective to help further this discussion . The car was equiped with a TO4e turbonetics plain bearing (360 thrust) turbo capable of getting the car to run a 11.3 at 124mph at 20spi . Yes it did take about 30 secs to get the car on boost , by on boost i mean 14psi at 3200rpm on the brake(inc. handbrake) which by trail and error was the optimum launch power , i discovered this after a few calder nights . Having entered a few heads-up racing events ( coming second) it took some practice to launch correctly put that was it just some practice. The current range of 9 sec VL's do take what seems a long time to get on the converter and i dont see any of them entering bracket racing inc. vas' vl who i know personally. Having said that the car would run a mid 12 on street tyres at the track and even slower on the street , it did struggle to stay with mild rexies to 100km/h but obviously after that it would pass most vehicles on the road . Any rwd car that runs over 120mph will always struggle with putting power down , but run one of these on the roll and you have bucklys chance. adam
  20. Power pack has been removed adam
  21. That happened to my mates one , the headlight assembly is still the xenon but the globe has been changed to a H4 as per the rules but the plug on the end HID cables is missing . Are you able to buy/get the new HID cable to the headlights? as the H4's are shite and dont throw much light. adam
  22. matt , while i dont doubt your expertise i didnt know there was a series three VL rod . Ive had a 11 sec vl a few years ago ( its now in the 10s ) and it used the std rod ( still does) with no dramas , it was just a 87 mdl turbo . In all the years of being in the VL scene ( ive moved on ) i never noticed a difference between rod thinkness and rods where never an issue at the time . adam. Actually RS500 would also have a fair amount experiance with vl rods as we had our cars at the same time.
  23. ive seen this motor in a 4 door r33 eeek! , i think his made about 75 atw , so mupkant must have 2 of them
  24. its got a middle resenator , doesnt do much though !
  25. Yeah thats what i meant ! The pipe is 3 inch however the rear muffler and tip extend to 4 inch . We fitted the restrictor but it still felt like it went quite good .
