  1. hmm thanks for that. pretty much guessing/hoping its the sparks or coils then. ill reply back here as to how it goes
  2. well i replaced my fuel pump and fuel filter, car's running again. but that weird missfire or popping sound problem is still there. going to replace sparks next week, hopefully that'll solve it.
  3. thanks for all the help guys. changed the fuel filter and the fuel pump. the old pump was not working at all. i hooked this one up with stock voltage as the relay system is a bit out of my understand (electronics). but it seems to run fine, at least as a stock replacement. might be the placebo but i actually feel like there is a slight performance increase. Thanks again guys.
  4. well ive bought the walbro 255 now. hopefully installing that will fix the problem. any other suggestions guys?
  5. okay so i've done a lot of searching around and think the best/cheapest replacement for the car is the bosch 040 intank fuel pump? its costing $210 at just jap. My car is pretty much stock and i doubt ill be upgrading it heavily any time soon, so i dont really need a high flow pump, is the stock oem part cheaper? what is the best replacement pump/cheapest i should use? and its an in tank pump, not external inline one?
  6. yeah funnily enough i just made another thread on general maintenance because my car doesn't start at all now. pretty sure it's fuel pump related. hoping to sort that out now by putting a new fuel pump and then continuing with the rest of the service. if anyone has any other suggestions on why my car might not be starting, the threads here http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/425667-urgent-car-not-starting-possible-fuel-pump/
  7. rather do things myself on the car, so at least i can learn it. i mean its just a fuel pump, shouldn't be too hard to replace. anyways, yeah just looking for general suggestions on what it could be if it's not the fuel pump. and a quick question, when i turn the key twice so the car and audio n all that is on, but im not holding the key in igititon to start it. at that time, should the fuel pump immediately start pumping fuel? even though the engine isn't on? how does that part work exactly?
  8. oh okay. lube mobile sounds expensive probably give it a go myself. doubt its the battery because it was tested with the 12v source the nrma have
  9. hey guys, i've got a r34 GT-T. pretty much totally stock. I've had it for almost 2 years and haven't had a single problem. but just yesterday all of a sudden it wouldn't start. I drove it fine and about an hour later tried driving it again and it wont start at all. The car sounds like its about to start so its not battery related, but it simply doesn't fire up. the NRMA guy said there isn't enough pressure in the fuel line and when he sprayed fuel from a can into the engine the car sounded like it wanted to start but simply couldnt. I really need the car fixed ASAP. Is this a common problem? I am wondering would this have caused my spark plugs to get fouled also? as i tried starting it for a fairly long while. And is it likely to be the fuel pump? is there a method to test what is actually wrong? Thanks heaps.
  10. yeah, im going to change the spark plugs in a few days. as soon as i get the time. im sure its not sucking air as i had that problem in an old car and that causes totally different symptoms. anyways, i was just wondering if theres anything else i should check and what i should do to check it when i open the cover and change the spark plugs. like if i've already opened it is there anything else relevant there that should also be checked? e.g coils? thanks for all the help guys, ill post back with results after the change of plugs
  11. okay seeing as its a head ache to get to the sparks anyways. while im there what should I look for and what else should I check for?
  12. thanks mad, ill get on it as soon as possible. just curious though, i heard you'd need platinum sparks or better spark plugs in a skyline, especially if you want them to last longer. $30 for 6 sounds very cheap, are these good ones that will last?
  13. im sort of leaning towards the fact that it may be something spark related. since it has been happening more recently compared to before. but then again it is muuuch colder now days and it could just be the colder air and the ecu having a fit. such a headache, dunno what to do guys..
  14. gtsboy sadly im not sure what those mixtures are. even worse, last night I was beaten by a gti r off the launch and even off second. and then I noticed that this problem occurs at all speeds now. my best description is, that it isnt a loud pop but its half loud. and I lose all acceleration at that point. ive come to realsie this must be fixed, so all legitness, is it ecu or spark plugs/ coils related? cause im getting all different answers here, and I can only afford to fix it once. thanks heaps for all the help guys, id be lost without it
  15. well im just looking for advice on what to do from this point on. or better yet, the best method to determine exactly what's causing this problem. is it worth changing my sparks? I was almost certain it wasn't spark related as it very rarely happens at low speeds whereas on high speeds it almost certainly happens
  16. okay wow this is a bit of a worrying issue then I guess. always thought it was normal and no big deal and assumed it was r&r or that afm cut off. so I really cant afford a new ecu or even a tune. what are the chances that this is: - r&r? -afm cutoff -sparks and what is the risk im taking by not getting it fixed. or maybe most cost effieient method to fix?
  17. hmm im getting confused now because when it pops the car doesn't jerk at all. it simply reminds me of those heaps worked cars shootting flames or the sound of hitting rev limitter in some cars. but yeah it doesnt jerk at all, just pretty much cuts off acceleration for that second. and doesnt shoot flames or hit limitter when researching this I came across something like afm cuttoff or something, dunno though. what could it be?
  18. Hey guys, I've had this problem for a very long time and i'm not too sure what it is, but it's pretty annoying. I've got a R34 GT-T stockish, mods are: - turbo back exhaust - rb20 actuator, constant 10psi boost with no dual stage. Anyways, the issue i have is, if i put my foot down completely on the throttle the car usually drives fast n fine, but sometimes it makes popping sounds from the exhaust region. This problem is a lot more common when im on the highway at say 110km/h and i decide to put my foot down completely it'll pop and pop so much that any normal honda can get passed me. I assumed it was R&R since its a stock ECU, but i've heard the stock ecu can take up to 1 bar of boost. this is only 10psi. Any ideas on what it could be guys? and anyway to fix it?
  19. boss amplifier 4500 ( i know not a good brand) bass boosted songs play great, however normal ones dont. polarity is correct, and im in westmead. (NSW)
  20. well its becoming more and more obvious that sticking with my 34 is the best option for me. still an import and isn't too problematic. seeing as i definitely cant up the budget, or afford any large modifications to my car right now anyways. thanks for all the help guys.
  21. yeah im just not too keen on the holden/ford scene. which is understandable im sure.. i even considered the older wrx's that are worked, but yeahh.. dunno
  22. looks like ill be sticking with the skyline i guess then.
  23. i thought it was pretty obvious for a qualified person to be able to tell if it's HID or not. if you look behind the lights in the engine bay its totally different
  24. so pretty much the options are, stick with the skyline or buy a commodore/falcon. obviously won't be going with the commodore or falcon lol. but yeah, sorta answered my question then i guess. Pretty much i can't get anything quicker than what i have for 10k.
