I am heading down from Rockhampton on July 28th for an all day skidpan event at the Rodcraft Facility in Gympie.
Cost is $100 for the whole day.
This is being run by Slidewise.
There are 16 spots and some are already filled (see list below), anyone who is interested can get more information from their flier:
http://www.ska.jumbahost.com/misc/Slidewiz...poster%20YT.pdf
$100 gets you and either your wife/gf/mate entry + Free BBQ lunch + Free soft drinks all day and tuition from a qualified driving instructor! For a small cost passengers can buy food and drink, $1 for can of soft drink and $2 for a burger or there is
All that stuff is for the pair! no more to pay
Tuition is delivered in a group setting, and further tuition is available to anybody who asks in or out of the vehicle. Cars with boost and LSD preferred or a healthy V8!
Each car gets 4 min on the skid pan in a single go. It is normal to be on the skid pan twice in an hour. Most cars burn about 1/2 a tank of fuel
There is no lunch break so it is possible to maximize the time available, which is 8 hours, lunch is eaten on the fly.
The skid pan is wet with only water (as per Road Craft Regulations) and is quite slippery. this means that it is fun, yet low stress on the vehicle. tyre wear is minimal
Practice things like power slides, throttle steering, hand brake turns, scando flicks and wet braking.
A petrol station close by where you can drive to.
They provide a qualified instructor to take you over what YOU want to learn.
Now "Drifting" is not allowed, but "Thottle Oversteer" is.
Sample Day:
TIME -- ACTIVITY
0800 - 0815 -- Housekeepingâ€â€Rules for the day
0815 – 0830 -- Seating positions
0830 - 0930 -- Free session
0930 - 1000 -- Skid talk & Demo Types/causes &corrections
1000 - 1200 -- Dice & Diamond
1200 - 1400 -- Super Loop
1400 - 1630 -- Horseshoe
If time permits -- Superman & Dynamic Loop
We ended up having the free time at the start so people get it out of their system and/or get the adrenalin pumping. Plus it gives the instructor time to watch drivers and their basic mistakes.
Free time is interspersed though-out the day.
I forgot to mention - as it is considered private property - vehicles need to be registered, (only race cars are permitted not to have rego) and drivers don't need to be licensed.
How to get to the Roadcraft Driver Education Centre, Gympie. Traveling from the North.
Look at this Map:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&...c=addr&om=1
Drive straight though Gympie (4 traffic lights) heading for Brisbane. You'll then go into the 80km zone.
Pass Corvette Queensland which is on your left as you drive down the high way (Hall Rd) and turn left into the next left, (where it says "Glanmire" on the Map). That is the industrial estate.
See this map:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&...&iwloc=addr
See where Pronger Parade and Drummond Dr meet, that is where the gate is, it opens at 7:40am.
The circuit in the middle is the go kart track, DO NOT go there. The actual skid pan which we will be using is in the lower left corner of the map.
Also make sure nobody spins their wheels ANYWHERE OR AT ANYTIME unless you are on the skid pan! That includes entry and exit of the facility! There is a very short piece of dirt in the middle, some people find it to hard to resist. Problem is that there is a caretaker there, and they'll have no choice but to ask them to leave.
For those who want to stay the night before driving home:
Phone Mike on (07) 54825433. Twin lakes hotel. Motel 2 people $69 cabin 2 people $82 Cabin 4 people $92
They have a bar and a TOP notch Thai restaurant.
Out of 16 spots there are none left, all full.
