  1. Nah, in aus pretty sure we only get the scirocco R which is 2.0 tsi
  2. Haha sigh, such a drain! Unnecessary costs of swapping over exhausts, lame. Cheers for info. Haha yeah stock exhaust to clear it might be the way to go. Ahaha your gf quite the hoon R has AWD goodness? Although around uni, lately I've seen a scirocco, looks the goods. But also see few Rs... also so nice. xD.
  3. Haha, I'm pretty over just loud. But reluctant to make a full-time switch to stock; ideally would get one that sounds nice as well as being under the legal limit. The reason I asked straight away about that system is that's the one that's more or less recommended over and over; which I was initially going to go get ages ago anyway; but would prefer to hit two birds with one stone (change over AND clear EPA). Just wanted to know if people thought it was possible, haha. Yeah would've thought the two mufflers would help (as well as no canon lawls) keep the sound down, but down enough is the question.... Might have to just swap over to stock for EPA and then change later; or see if there is a way to (properly) make it under the limit. Either way probably a good time to swap over from my current set up, want the next to be quieter.
  4. Golf R's are hawt. I wish I could afford Sciorocco? FWD, though. No AWD goodness. MKV R32 while still on P's... and then R. XD. In other news, joys of life, got an EPA letter in the mail . Posted in NA section as well, but thought I'd ask here if anyone knows the chances that a custom 2.25-2.5" mandrel bend, mild steel catback, with one (or two?) centre mufflers, and a twin tip muffler of some sort; will come in under the legal limit of 90dB? May as well as take opportunity to change exhaust to something I want (current exhaust came with the car, and was too lazy/poor at the time to change) - and even better if it's legal. Don't really want to just go to a stock one, but yeah
  5. Woot, also an EPA letter in the mail for me. Zzzz. To avoid making a new topic, going to post here. Unless I get no replies... in which case I'll have to make a new thread . Similar to OP; think I've got a 3" catback with huge canon (kakimoto), possible hi-flow cat (not sure). Lols (Yeah, I'm one of those). In my defense, it was on the car when I got it down from Japan, and I was initially too lazy / no monies to swap it over; and then I just got used to the sound (or maybe I just lost some hearing LOL). What are the chances a custom made 2.25" or 2.5" mandrel bend mild steel catback, with one (or two?) centre mufflers, and a twin tip muffler of some sort; will come in under the legal limit of 90dB? Whilst hurting my ears, I enjoyed my stupid loud exhaust sometimes in tunnels/under freeways/general spirited driving. But now that I have to change it; I figured it's high time I get the exhaust I was meant to do all that time ago when I first got it haha. Obviously it's got to pass EPA first though, and I don't know if I can be bothered getting a stock one just for EPA, then swapping over to one I get made up. Would be better if it's possible the one I get made up is legal in the first place... Cheers for any help brahs.
  6. Regardless, I'm assuming you would be able to apply for an exemption for an older car fulfilling the requirements? Not sure, of course. Although from what I've quickly read and heard, it seems any naturally aspirated car within 130 kW/t should be okay; however it's 125 kW/t if turbocharged (provided they are a 'family car'). For example, had a quick google, finding it a bit tricky to find the weight, but I think golf gti's would be fair game, if so. Just would have to apply (assuming getting an older mkv or something). Read in a different article (about this issue) that apparently some guy from VW was like "Why the laws prohibit GTI's, and need p platers to get exemptions for little 1.2 TSI's while being okay for them to drive R32's is beyond me" hahaha. I know if I had had the money, I would have considered R32 .
  7. Was on the way home last night from work, around 9:20-30pm, on Springvale Rd as I was crossing FerntreeGully Rd, I think I got a honk from an R33 coming from opp. direction. But I was too zombie to realise until too late, so if it indeed happened my bad not replying . Saw a red r33 parked behind the EH rooms at uni this afternoon also.
  8. Mate, tell me about it. Time didn't "slow down" for me as per se, but it sort of did a similar thing where I could see he was never going to control the turn at the speed he was going, and just forsaw the crash. Shit be cray, man. Haha the problem is uphill is always first; and boosted their confidence a bit too much... Btw that crash looks horrible bro, amazing you got out if it unharmed. Do eet. If Mount Dandy, lemme know. Been itching to go on a bit of a drive for ages! The rain is what's been holding me back. Going kinglake with some mates soon, but Mount Dandy is so close to where I live LOL, I wonder why I don't go there more often (...must be petrol prices xD). That said, last time we went to Kinglake, 2 of my mates hit Kangaroos... Well actually, it was after Kinglake and en route to Healsville... on some straight road LOL :|. Apparently I dodged a few I didn't even see...
  9. I've been in a crash on Mount Dandy too -___-. I think was the downhill on that bit between the Basin and Sassafrass that Birds posted up. I wasn't driving though, I was the passenger, which makes it worse if anything, no control at all... We went straight into the MOUNTAIN side though (I think we hit a reflector pole, then slid UP the side of the mountain (dodging a reflector pole) and then came back down and hit another one... :| ). Was mate's first time downhill, fwd+auto, going uphill had him a bit overconfident (turned back relatively early on the route, as there was roadworks), and then with brakes cooked on the way down and not providing enough brake power... gg. I remember on the turn before that telling him to slow down on the turn before we crashed, since we were going (what I felt) was too quick, but that turn was nice and gentle, the one we crashed on was not. After we had stopped and I heard the radiator hissing and shit I thought I was going to die in an explosion rofl. We both left unscratched though... (air bags didn't even deploy :|).
  10. i'm by no means an expert, but from what i have read, it seems coilovers for R34 GTT will not fit an NA R34. HOWEVER, R33 GTST coilovers will fit NA R34's. Which then suggests R33 GTST coilovers will NOT then fit R34 GTT's...
  11. I might have to come down sometime see you too mate, my car is severely lacking in the audio department! Not to mention the speaker that never worked from the get go haha. Any sales soon? Or it doesn't really matter?
  12. black 4dr 34 in the monash eng carpark lv1 today, don't think i usually see it (there's another black coupe (and silver 33 sometimes) i always do, though). also a silver 34 on like the 3rd or 4th level a few days ago. eng carpark brings all the skylines to the yard, clearly
  13. touche on topic: i've seen my fuel light far too often this year... damn cheap day keeps changing, and i keep driving too much in between. at least it works. other night i forgot my wallet at mates (was on fuel light as i got there), and drove home thinking i'd fill up next day... little did i know i had forgotten le wallet. so a very nervous trip to work and his place the next day couldn't fill up without teh monies. every light worried car will just cut off LOL living life on the edge. fuel light is great... until you don't remember how much kms you've driven AFTER it's been on.... p.s. may the fourth be with everyone
  14. Boost? Just downloaded this app. Preeeeeetty sure I am now coolest p plater + I can roll with GTTs and GTRs no problem on cruises
  15. Yo guys, I'm looking for a pair of new tyres. My front alignment is pretty screwed atm, and so the resulting wear on the tyres aren't too good . So essentially after a pair of new fronts (and then wheel alignment+balance). First Q: Is it worth swapping the rears (fairly even wear, I think) to the front; and putting the new tyres at the rear? Or really won't matter, just chuck the new ones on the front? Second Q: The tyres themselves. Thinking Kumho KU31's or Federal 595's are the way to go, from what I've read. (Note car is an NA R34... so very very far from any huge power figures LOL - so I hardly need the best tyres, but driving in the wet is still a drain atm, etc. So budget wise, <= $150ea is ideal haha). Tempe Tyres have 225/45/17 KU31's for $150 (+ Free shipping til 29/04) - is this a good price? I think the 595's are meant to be a bit cheaper but I don't think Tempe stock them... So any local-ish places I can check out as well? I'm located in SE Melb. Oh, and some other mates need new tyres as well, (I think they're mostly wanting KU31's as well) - so if there's group discounts to be had as well, always nice! I think we need like 12 tyres all up or something Cheers for any help guys!
