Electrical/autobox Issue On Selecting High Beam...?
NickM91 replied to NickM91's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
almost 1500km since having this issue. no repeat in plenty of night driving selecting high beam etc looking like the loose terminal was the probable cause. any further thoughts anyone? -
im interested for sure but cannot commit just yet due to work and moving/trying to find a house or apartment to live in. im up in newcastle, but intend to get to sydney relatively frequently.

That's A Nice Looking Volvo Mate.......
NickM91 replied to Paramour's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Had a couple in the last few days. My brothers, mates, dad to my dad -> "bit odd of Nick to buy a Volvo, looks nice though..." Told a mate loading some stuff into his sedan that he needed a wagon... he goes "yeah well I saw your volvo down there, a bit jealous of the boot space" Same guy as above today after looking at the car a bit closer "ahh its not a volvo its a skyline..." I just laughed haha -

Bought this too fix my turbo flutter issue...................................... tsutsutsutsu *Insert face palm smiley* Aside from annoying (once the novelty wears off) is this sort of flutter potentially damaging for the turbo? -
Can't recall, black background on the number plate parked in nuggets crossing. Yeah I was at the BP

M35 Funny Low Power Chirp Sound...
NickM91 replied to NickM91's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
got my kompact plumb back in this morning and now I have fully sick flutter noise all the time. haven't had a chance to see what it does under high power, but definitely get a lot of flutter at medium to low power. I find it annoying, and am not to keen on any unwanted attention either, so interested to hear how the change of spring goes. considering putting the stock back in as it was fluttering less haha -
Electrical/autobox Issue On Selecting High Beam...?
NickM91 replied to NickM91's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Cheers Craig I really appreciate the offer. Like I said I'll be two-ing and fro-ing a bit this week so just let me know when suits. I'm manly way anyway so not that too far any other time. Chatted to mechanic mate again, said that given the loose terminal, he'd be surprised if it were anything else causing the car to play up. -

Kompac BOV it is haha -

Yeah still Stock. Checked all the plumbing to the BOV and all looks fine, the problem seems to have worsened, maybe a factor of cold weather. Went up the mountains to the snow and every time i'd let off the throttle a bit to hold speed, like when going over a crest, i'd get turbo flutter, and could just about hold it in flutter if i left the pedal position where it was. Boost and RPM dropped as this happens. I see you have a Kompact BOV josh, how does that go/ does it do the job? Easy to install? -
Electrical/autobox Issue On Selecting High Beam...?
NickM91 replied to NickM91's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Commsman, you could be onto something there, my (apprentice)mechanic mate mentioned something along those lines, albeit not knowing the battery terminal was loose, but said he had heard of cars doing it before to compensate for a lack of electrical power for one reason or another. I need to do a couple of trips to and from Newcastle this week, so that'll be the test I suppose. -
2 white c34's yesterday, one chasing me up the hill to Thredbo, ACT plates I think, another NSW registered one in Jindy

Electrical/autobox Issue On Selecting High Beam...?
NickM91 replied to NickM91's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Cheers for the advice, Checked the battery, negative terminal was perhaps a little loose but otherwise fine, still cleaned them both and put them back on. Relay box seemed fine, no fuses blown or any sign of moisture. Checked around the engine bay for all the earthing points that i could see/find. As far as battery goes, I had it replaced just prior to my drive across from Perth, about 6000kms, and two weeks ago, so I would have thought it was fine. I've had no other funny things going on up until this point aside from the annoying turbo flutter on medium/light throttle. So aside from perhaps being caused by a loose negative terminal I'm still at a loss. Is it possible for the gearbox to shift down to say first at freeway speeds? I guess thats my main concern at this point destroying the box and or the engine... confidence in the car is at a new low -
G'day, So on top of my Turbo flutter noises which worsened in the hills at the snow, yesterday, on my way back to Sydney the stagea decided to play up on me a couple of times throughout the drive. So first thing i noticed, and i do get this very occasionally so thought nothing of it, was i got a mild shudder through the drive system, sort of like the gear box is thinking about changing gear then doesn't, backing off the throttle has always cleared it, and i've read of other people having similar issues without any on going issues, but after what happened yesterday i'm beginning to wonder. So yesterday i slowed down to round a corner at an intersection, just after i went around the bend, during light acceleration, i flicked the high beams on, and the car dropped back to what i suspect was first gear, revs shot up to 4500RPM, as i was doing maybe 40-60kph but didn't really look, but they shot up, and stayed there until i did the whole wtf, and moved it from 'D' into tiptronic mode and went up a couple of gears. I put it back into drive and continued on driving a bit puzzled by what had just happened. I didn't make the connection that it happened when i flicked the highbeams on, and continued using them as required along the drive. About two hours later on the Hume this time doing 110kph, again, i flicked the high beams on and the car dropped back maybe 2 gears to 3rd, and the revs again shot up to 4500ish RPM, and it stayed there again until I went into tiptronic. This time i noticed that the AT transmission light came on, and possibly a few others, until i selected tip tronic. Confused again, and a bit nervous that the car might try and drop down to first gear or something at freeway speed I pulled over, switched the car off, popped the bonnet and had a look around in the engine bay and underneath the car for any thing leaking or looking untoward. The only thing i noticed, and i'm not sure whether this is completely normal or not, but the rear diff casing was too hot to touch, but i had been sitting at 110kph for a couple of hours. I phoned a mechanic mate and he recommended that so long as i hear no grinding clunking sounds or anything out of the ordinary i limp it home, which i did at about 80kph. I also decided not to try the high beams again. Just around the corner from home, this time going 40 odd kph, i tested the high beams again. This time there was no gear changes, or none that i noticed, but the instrument cluster lit up with every warning light, just like when you start the car, and my passengers noted that the aircon displays and radio switched off for a split second. Once home and stationary i tried the high beam again with no issues. I'm at a complete loss as to what all that was about, if its a gear box issue or an electrical issue thats causing this problem. Any advice as to how i go about fixing this issue, whether i go to a auto electrician, a auto gear box specialist or just a mechanic would be really appreciated. I need the use of my car, including freeway driving ASAP and at the moment i'm not even keen to take it around the block. Cheers for the help Nick

What Have You Done To Your Stagea Lately?
NickM91 replied to Hanso's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
After all the discussion on it, I got motivated to fix my under-tray after it did its best to come off on my trip across the nullabor. Also went to get tyres yesterday. Bought the tyres, but also picked up something else... -
Waved to a blue series 2 m35 in Seaforth today, just down from the round about
-
Yeah not sure what fuel will be like along that route, but I did pay something in the order of $2.20 a litre along the nullabor so even getting it down just 1 or 2L/hundred k will eventually add up. My car managed to get economy below 10. I was extremely surprised and got 9.6L/100km for at least 2 legs of the trip. Probably averaged in the low 10's though.
-
Made it! Car needs a good wash, the under bumper protector tried its damndest to come off, nothing some cable ties and duck tape couldn't fix, the air bag light decided to come on about 1000km out from Sydney, and i think I may need a new BOV after getting made dose pipe/turbo flutter sounds when cruising up hills at a steady 70-80km/h.

finally... cheers for the help gettin it in footo -
Cheers Scotty, I'll have a look at mine over the weekend with footo when we fit my FMIC found out today I might not be in such a rush off, still in the next 2-3 weeks though, hurry up and wait.....
-
Cheers guys, will get the belts checked out, replace any that look a bit suss, and keep the old ones as spares just in-case. Will also have a look at that bleed valve. What's one of them worth to replace? Also noticed that the rolling diameter of my spare is slightly larger than my current wheels, one of my engineering mates assured me it'd be fine for an emergency drive to the nearest servo/mechanic to get a tyre repaired/replaced likened it to driving around a slight corner while going straight if that makes sense. Cause the body to sit slightly off etc. Only querying as I've read about people having issues with different rolling diameters on front vs rear etc causing shuddering and the like in the 4wd system. Tools are sorted. Was thinking a bonnet/bumper cover or some sort, but then realised mine is already stonechipped to the sh*t so not a lot of point

Well Its time again... the trip in reverse is now in planning for a departure in 2-4 weeks So far planning on camping across with a mate. In terms of stuff to buy for the car so far my list includes: Oil Radiator fluid/distilled water Puncture kit & pump Duct tape Tow strap (just in-case, convoying with mates) Going to get the car serviced in the next week, hopefully pull out any issues with it. Check spare tyre etc Anyway another dilemma I have is I just received a FMIC and new radiator fan etc. Yet to be fitted, it was my intention to fit it next weekend, but I am now wondering if its such a great idea putting mods in with potentially only a week for any issues to crop up. Whats everyone's thoughts on that? Cheers
