  1. Prices vary, but buying a manual seems to add quite a bit to the price. In the end I just couldn't justify it. When I was first looking I made up a spreadsheet of all the selling prices for the last year and I found that it would be up to 400,000 Yen more to get a manual over an auto. The earlier you go, the less the difference was though. 2000 model manuals go for ridiculous amounts. High 20s should get you a 97 manual I'd say.
  2. I also used Imports 101. Very good service there. BTW I'm usually never a fan of crystal/altezza style lights, but those Traum ones really do look nice.
  3. I'd say they'd be a bit more different than you'd expect. They lost a turbo and added VVTi, so instead of max torque at 4800rpm in the JZX90, you get it at 2400rpm in the JZX100. I can see what you're saying though. The 90s are a very good cheap alternative.
  4. Well 3 that I know of if you count Tubby's JZX90 . It's weird that Newcastle hasn't got more of them since we're such a big modified/sports car city. It feels like there are more Skylines here than locally delivered 200SXs and there are a lot of them. It'd be hard to guess the number of Chasers in Aus though, but I doubt it'd be over 1000. That will probably change soon enough.
  5. That's got to be the cleanest 90 GTR I've ever seen. Nice buy. On the importer issue that's been raised - I tried to import my Chaser directly using a buyer in Japan and after 4 months (when I got my deposit back) I still had not even put 1 bid down on a car. To me, the big problem with going straight to a buyeris that you only have the choice from their local auction. In my case, the buyer couldn't find 1 suitable car to send me. I received about 4 emails in the 4 months with cars I could bid on, and each one was either too modified, the wrong spec, or the wrong car totally. By the end I had dropped my requested options and paint colour, so I was simply after any stock car he could get his hands on. I think he was just sending them to me because that was all he had access to and felt he had to send me *something*. If you go through people like Imports 101, Prestige or JSpec you've got pretty much all of Japan to choose your car from. This means you can be picky about the car you get. That's worth the fee to me. BTW with 101 I had bought a car in 3 weeks.
  6. There's nothing hard to understand. I don't know why you're still talking about this speed article. I know more power doesn't automatically mean it's better, and I didn't say that. I think I'll pass on writing a letter to speed just because I disagree with their review too. I'll just leave this discussion here as this really isn't going anywhere
  7. I don't know why they put them in the same comparison. And yes' date=' it is a little strange to me that the Supra came last. I'm sure Speed aren't biased, but every other review I've ever read says the Supra handles really well and goes damn hard. It's almost always compared to the GTR. Anyway, lets just say that you'd prefer a GTT and I'd prefer a Supra Yeah then it's a clear win for the Supra, but I was assuming they were stock.
  8. Very nice I'm not laughing about the woodgrain at all. I love it. All JZX100s have VVTi engines, so that's normal. I've sent you a PM too btw.
  9. BTW I have read that Speed article, but it really is just an opinion piece. I can't see how they're "PRO's". Sure they've probably driven a lot of cars and are more qualified to judge the cars than me, but aren't they just fellow enthusiasts driving cars and then writing about them?
  10. Stupid comments? Let me clarify my post then. By different league i meant that the Supra is a GTR competitor. Sure they're both JDM and FR platforms, but I wasn't saying that they are totally different cars. The 343Nm of the GTT is quite a bit lower than the 451Nm of the Supra. That's almost 1/3 more torque. That's like comparing an RB20DET powered GTS-t and an RB26DETT powered R32 GTR. BTW you really can't compare the power ratings as the Supra would have quite a bit more than 206kW. EDIT: Changed the cars I was comparing
  11. Supra any day. A GTT isn't even in the same league imo.
  12. haha yeah, I actually ran the exposed cam wheel for a while. It's a good look BTW That cop sure must have known his engines if he picked it from the plenum. I'd be fooled by the ECCS sticker
  13. The RB20/26 covers wouldn't fit on the RB25 unless you removed the VVT, which is half the appeal of the 25 to me (the extra 0.5L doesn't hurt either).
  14. You certainly know your physics DoughBoy
  15. I'm sure Inertia would make quite a difference. Have you got any idea of how much? One other thing that hasn't been mentioned (as far as I can see) is friction loss from having 2x the moving parts. The twins would have to be less efficient. Even if it is just a matter of a 2 or 3%.
  16. I used to always think that twins were better than singles. 2 small turbos MUST spool faster than 1 big one, because they're just so much smaller (at least that was my thinking). The one thing that I was always forgetting was that you only have 1.3L of engine capacity to spool up each turbo, so it's going to spool up a lot slower than you'd think. I bet a lot of people that blindly assume twins are faster forget this. Good thread btw.
  17. yep, which is what we got when we converted from the kW figures earlier. Very strange.
  18. With Pieoter's calculations there, it actually shows that you've got more torque at 1000rpm than you do anywhere else. I think there's something wrong with your dyno sheet.
  19. That'd be one interesting dyno to see! If you can get access to a scanner I'd love to see it. So you're saying your dyno sheet essentially has a flat power line from 3000rpm all the way to 7000rpm? If those numbers are right, then your car is indeed making 650Nm at the wheels because 172rwkw at 2500rpm is ridiculously good. As you say, this is well above a 300kW Monaro and at much lower revs too. What mods have you got? I knew RB30s were good, but this is amazing.
  20. well it'd be right if you were making 172rwkw @ 2500rpm, but I doubt that's what your car puts out. Your peak power might be that, but at 2500rpm, it'd be way lower. Post up your dyno sheet and I'll take a look at it if you want.
  21. Toyota Chaser. There are some pics of it somewhere on the forum. Do a search for 'JZX100' and you should find them. I've heard how long it can take to get a new car from Holden/Ford. It's crazy how long the waiting list was on the XR6Ts when they first came out. When I get it, I'm sure you'll see it around. I'll be driving it every second of the day
  22. That formula would give you torque at the wheels because you're working off the power at the wheels. Remember power is just the relationship between torque and rpm, so if you know the power and the rpm, you know the torque.
  23. Not too bad, Wilso. I've actually sold the R33 and moved on to a Toyota. It's not here yet though. Importing takes quite a while. I also haven't seen WEAPN around for a while either. Maybe it's because it did burn out. I really wouldn't know to be honest.
  24. Liz, I heard that story about WEAPN too.
  25. Gruntn, I can't help you out with meeting up with him but I know his name if that helps. I'll PM it to you if you want it. BTW you've got to see the size of the turbo he's got under the bonnet (3240? 3540? Can't quite remember). I've seen him getting it a little sideways down Stewart Ave a few times, so he certainly likes to use it too
