  1. Yeah I wasn't sure if I should reuse the standard rods but I suppose if they're still in good condition it's probably a good idea save some $$$ and even on a race track I try to avoid revving past 7000 rpm as the engine isn't making any more power past 6800. Probably far cheaper in the long run to just rebuild it properly now and at least I know where I stand. Thanks for the suggestion
  2. My 32 GTR is regod as a sedan and to avoid complications I'd just leave it . I went to get mine changed when I looked at the rego papers but my mechanic said don't bother with it as it can be a very painful process to fix it. Not sure why but the RMS tends to make simple tasks very hard for no apparent reason.
  3. Check igniter and all earth leads see how you go
  4. Yeah I was told by A few fellow track guys with a good quality 98 you can have it in the tank for up to 3 months and after that it starts to go off
  5. I know it's no skyline guys but I was Just pulling down the ca18det in my 1200 coupe to replace the head gasket the afternoon and I found some pretty nasty scoring, scratching and no 4 cylinder bore feels wavy and out of round. The plan was to clean the head up and put it all back together but I've been told by 2 separate mechanics to not even bother and find another block. I feel very defeated at the moment as I was planning to get the car back on the circuit by June 1 to compete in a super sprint at SMSP. Note what appears to burn marks on the head gasket and cracks where water has leaked into oil gallery and on no 4 cylinder bore it looks as though there are also burnt stain marks? No 1 piston has a massive score mark in it and no 2 and 3 seem to have a lot of scratches. Is it worthy to get it rebored say to 20 thou oversize fit new pistons and rods or just find another block? For a proper rebuild the parts list alone is about $3000 and I bought the track car for $5500! Or maybe just buy a used engine bolt it in and get it back out on the track. I've owned the car 2 1/2 years and I still feel like I'm getting used to driving it with only about half a dozen events completed. very frustrating. Thank god the 32 R in the shed isn't the track weapon and just the weekend toy. Rant over
  6. Adjusted date due to weather and certain events going on this weekend. Amended date is now Sunday 6th of April 2014 same location
  7. Just extending an invite to the skylines Community who might want to tag along for a car cruise this Sunday meeting at heatherbrae mcdonalds on the pacific highway ( in between newcastle and Raymond terrace) 10am sharp. It's to the right at a set of traffic lights if your heading from newcastle Sydney way. The plan is to have lunch at Forster somewhere and drive up the highway then turn right at the lakes way past buledelah and follow that road all the way into Forster. I drive a gunmetal 32 R so don't be shy and come introduce yourself. 0409 217803
  8. There's a cruise this Sunday 2nd of march meeting at heatherbrae mcdonalds 10am on the pacific highway between newcastle and Raymond terrace. The plan is to drive to Forster for lunch turn but once past buledelah we will turn off onto the lakes way and enjoy that windy road all the way to Forster. I drive a gunmetal 32 GTR so come say hi
  9. Finally found out what kind of car in the middle of the night races across the bridge in east maitland. My suspicions were either 4G63 powered EVO or SR20 powered car it SOUNDS SWEET getting chased all the way to the limiter in a suburb full of jet pilot commodores and falcons. Turns out it was an s15 silvia. If your reading this post keep it up!
  10. saw a white r33 GTS-T in maitland other day and i also spotted my old black 32 GTR the other day driving the truck to work and again a few weeks earlier at a service station refuelling. Was hard to watch it in the hands of another person, kinda like watching a hot ex gf with another bloke.
  11. Also the majority of R32 R's in sydney are jet silver, brisbane seems to favor burgundy maroon, Melbourne GTR's love the pod filter's and the colour black and apparently white was a really common colour for them but ive seen only 1 in the flesh and i think ive seen 1 navy blue on gumtree. DA FUQ with that? Interesting trends and observations though
  12. Yeah i found out the hard way what happens when you use a GTR as daily. My Fuel bills soared to $400+ a month and i actually fell out of love driving the car and just wanted to sell it to find something more fuel economic but a 2007 Subaru liberty is no R32 GTR I now drive a 97 toyota camry, gf drives the subaru and I couldn't be happier about fuel economy, reliability and parking these cars at shopping centers. I'm currently on the look out for another R32 GTR as a weekend toy but i tell you what its hard to find one now in good condition.( I knew this because well lets face it they are 19-24 years old now. ) Ive inspected and test driven 10 of them now and this is what ive noticed: - majority of them need a bit of money spent on them now and most people are trying to get rid of them before big $$$$$$ bills start looming. - vehicle history checks indicate plenty of owners for imported skylines and unreported accident damage. - 1 car i looked at was registered as a mitsubishi magna and another had rego cancelled for traffic infringements and money owing. - average klms 60,000-150,000 (yeah right ) - almost all of them dont blow cold air when A/C is turned on. 2 out of 10 A/C worked correctly and even then 1 made funny noises when A/C switched on. - almost all of them have at least 5 faults or more - almost all of them bubble in the centre of the dash and interior rear quarter cards crack and bubble. - the majority have high clutch pedals and brakes that shudder under hard braking and tend to have various little electrical gremlins ( warning lights, wiper, power window etc). - Ive found 2 out of 10 with working clocks and 1 out of 10 with a genuine factory CD player and standard air box. - among leaking fluid's the most common areas tend to be around bell housing, transfer case/gearbox, valve cover and brake master cylinders and clutch slave cylinders. - 1 car had rubber coated under all the guards, another 2 had semi slicks with warning triangles (never a good sign unless its been well looked after), 4 had rear end accident damage poorly patched and 1 car supposedly had a "button clutch" at a certain dealership on parramatta road with 60,000 klms. um yeah no clutch left more like it lol - and funniest test drive (well didnt even leave the dealership) car was started and a certain knock knock knock was heard from bottom end the moment key was turned. I race a CA18DET 1200 coupe and i know that sound...... salesman said he'd change the oil for me and i looked at my mechanic and he said lets go for a walk, we did not return funnily enough. This time round I'm a lot more informed purchasing this kind of car and no modifications that are "untasteful". All this still hasn't deterred me from buying one as they are my favorite GTR simply because of the plentiful and epic motorsport history behind them. Theres my rant and a bit of FYI
  13. very helpful info thanks for the write up. I'm currently looking for another r32 GTR and out of ten cars ive test driven only two have working air conditioning. (ie blows cold air and work through all the different cycle's, operating modes and correct temperature. Just as a FYI i got a quote to convert R12 system to R134a for an R32 GTR. Looking between $1000-1500 for drive in drive out with a brand new 134 suitable compressor, lines, new seals labour etc
  14. I found that the most enjoyable car i had when i was on my P's was a suzuki swift GTi great little car, yeah i did used to cop a lot for driving a "girls" car but didn't care when i was out braking and out handling much more powerful cars on the road and the race track. If you cant stand a FWD id also suggest a mazda mx5, like the GTi loves to rev good bang for buck economical and reliable enough to take to a race track drive home and go to work next day. Good luck with your vehicle purchase
  15. like sinista32 said check your G sensor I'd also go to the trouble of cleaning all your electrical connectors check earthing etc. My 32 temp gauge would go up and down over large bumps got it checked over and tested seemed to be ok. Let us know how you go trying to sort it out
