  1. No sweat - happy to add to the knowledge base Yeah, they were a factory option in later years. My '93 brochure shows it and a '94 brochure here shows the airbag option too: http://www.downloads.gtr.org.uk/Brochures/R32GTR%20Vspec2.pdf
  2. Haha! Cheers - it's a recent addition. I 'got it for Christmas' after organising it for myself I posted a review here: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/416471-product-review-real-emotion-dashboard-mat-r32/
  3. This is a review of the 'Real Emotion' brand dashboard mat that I recently purchased for my R32 GT-R. My dashboard is in excellent condition and I have been conscious that exposure to the sun here in Australia is likely to cause the classic 'bubbling' that we see on so many R32 cars. The examples of bubbles that I have seen have been in the 'fold' area to the left of the dash, where the surface inflects horizontally above the glove box and centre console, and also in the 'fold' where the rounded section over the instrument cluster meets the rest of the dash. Here are a counple of examples: That being said, I wanted to find a mat that covered the entire dash from the windscreen downwards and draped over the front to the line of the top of the glove box, centre console etc. I also wanted to find one that wasn't made of carpet. I didn't want to feel like I was driving one of my grandparent's cars every time I looked out over the hood. The only mat that I could find that ticked both of those boxes was the Real Emotion brand mat from Japan: http://translate.goo...2Gvy4JP2aYeQunA I contacted the company via their Japanese only website (some meticulous Google translation was required) to inquire whether they will ship to Australia and whether the double sided tape will attack the dashboard. I received a response from Karikawa there, advising very politely that he doesn't ship outside Japan and that the tape is safe for the dashboard material. Promising but back to square one. Google searches lead me to two outlets - http://mlracing.co.nz and www.rhdjapan.com, who were by far the more economical of the two. Price was ¥19,950 plus ¥5,795 EMS trackable shipping, which combined to give about AU$330 based on the exchange rate. Not the cheapest but it looked like a really good product. It took about five weeks to arrive from www.rhdjapan.com - they explained that there had been a delay to their supply. I wasn't shocked at that to be honest. It appears to be a hand made product, and Real Emotion appear to be a very small outfit. At any rate, it only took four days for it to arrive after rhdjapan sent an email with tracking information advising that it had been dispatched. It arrived well packed in a box by rhdjapan. The contents were understandably simple: The mat is made of a nice mesh fabric with a urethane backing. I plumped for black, but a blue fabric is available. The quality of the stitching is good: Application of the double sided tape was easy enough. Adjustments to the position of the mat once it was stuck in place were easy enough as the tape is tacky enough to hold the fabric, but not too much that it can't be peeled away. I think that you could only get away with re-sticking using the same piece of tape a few times though. Nothing surprising there. I think that the mat fit very well given that it has been cut and sewed to fit a surface that curves in three dimensions. It's not 100% perfect around air vents etc. but it's still bloody impressive. See below: Overall I think that this is an excellent, hand crafted product and to me it was worth the money. I think that in this instance you do get what you pay for.
  4. Looks shmick Chris. Nice work with the guards! Coincidentally Chris Rogers had some input with mine as well. The first owner was the principal of the importer in Queensland (Nizmo Pty Ltd) and he stored mine in a warehouse for a year or so. When it came time to get it mobile he gave it to Chris to drive around while he removed an alarm that was plaing havoc with the electrics, and cut the roof trim so that a Mitsubishi Magna LED high mount stop light could be installed. Small world!
  5. Hi everyone, I've created the 'V-Spec register' thread now. Please feel free to add your cars: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/416450-r32-gt-r-v-spec-v-spec-ii-register-inc-n1-v-spec-v-spec-ii-models/page__gopid__6685251#entry6685251
  6. Here is my car: V-Spec - build date 10/93 'Chassis No' : BNR32-305366 'Model': KBNR32RBFSN AA Location: Adelaide, South Australia I've only recently bought this car - from SAU member kbnr-32 about three and a half months ago. I wanted to find a nice clean example to keep stock, or take back to stock. The car had about 66,500km on it when I bought it and it has just gone over 70,000km. A large chunk of that occured during the drive from Melbourne to my home in Adelaide when I bought it, as well as a return drive to Melbourne this month to see a couple of gigs! The rest of the driving has largely been having fun or the few km's to and from work! The only non-stock item (that I know of) is an Etching K's cat-back exhaust. I'm keeping an eye out for a good condition stock exhaust to put in the shed - so that I have one on hand if I ever want to take her back to factory spec. The only modification that has been noticed is that a previous owner in Japan drilled a hole through the factory boost restrictor - which is cheeky but fine with me! There is a factory option SRS Airbag present. The condition of the car is excellent. The interior is great, with only B and C pillar trims requiring replacement because the coating is coming away, and a driver's mat and cigarette lighter required. The dash (now obscured by the 'Real Emotion' mat that you see in the photos) is straight with no cracks or bubbles. The paint is great given the cars age but it needs the odd scratch or graze sorted out at some stage. A new set of window mouldings and rubbers when that happens will make it look a million dollars. Mechanically, the car is great. Logs exist for all servicing up to about 23,000km in 2007(!) when there was a change of ownership and 40,000km added in 2008 and 2009. The car then arrived in Australia late 2009 with approximately 63,500km on the clock. The engine has been well maintained and is awesome. The synchros are getting a bit tired, so a gearbox rebuild and a diff recondition will occur one day - but they're fine for the moment. The G-Sensor was faulty when I bought it, so 4WD was locked out, but a fellow Adelaide based SAU member (datsun_1600) sorted that out magnificently for me! The air con has shat itself (seized compressor) so that needs a rebuild too. No great dramas there though. All in all, she's amazing. A bit of a 'keeper'. I can see why the Japanese are so passionate about GT-R's now that I own one like this.
  7. Hi all, This is a thread for people to introduce and discuss their R32 V-Spec's and V-Spec II's (including N1 V-Spec's and N1 V-Spec II's). It will be a register of R32 V-Specs that are still about. I'll try to log those in Australia and those overseas and regularly upload the log, a bit like the ADM R32 GT-R thread. This isn't a thread to get into detail about the different specification of the two R32 V-Spec models. I've already established a thread for that here: http://www.skylinesa...e__pid__6683573 Feel free to touch on the differences etc, but take detailed discussions to that thread. To keep things consistent and ensure that any log is accurate there will need to be a few rules. The following information is a mandatory inclusion in the first post regarding each car added to the thread: Model of car (i.e. 'V-Spec', 'V-Spec II', 'N1 V-Spec' or 'N1 V-Spec II') - a build date would be good too, but if you don't know it we can help out with that. 'Chassis No' code (i.e. VIN number) from the chassis plate 'Model' code from the chassis plate Photo of the blue chassis plate that is fixed to the car in the driver's side of the engine bay Where the car is located - state/county/rough location and country Other than that, feel free to tell us all that you want about your pride and joy - known history, factory options, modifications, mileage etc. It would be preferable to include at least one photo of the car as well - outside, engine bay, interior etc. To clarify - If your R32 GT-R is a V-Spec, V-Spec II or V-Spec based N1 model the 'Model' code on your car's chassis plate should look something like this (note that the * indicates factory option codes, and may not be present, or consist of multiple letters): V-Spec: KBNR32RBFS* AA V-Spec II: KBNR32RBFS8* AA V-Spec N1: KBNR32RBFS* ZN V-Spec II N1: KBNR32RBFS8* ZN For example, mine is a V-Spec with factory option SRS Airbag, which is denoted by option code 'N', so my car's chassis plate reads KBNR32RBFSN AA. V-Spec II owners, correct me if I got the code above wrong! It is my understanding that any car that has an 'X' and/or a '7' in the 'Model' code is not a V-Spec or a V-Spec based N1. I look forward to seeing a few more V-Specs! Cheers! Mike
  8. Wow, that does sound interesting! It sounds like it might have been a pace car or safety car. I'm going to start a new thread for people to introduce and discuss their R32 V-Spec's and V-Spec II's (including N1 V-Spec's and N1 V-Spec II's) so that this thread doesn't go off topic. It'll be a register of R32 V-Specs that are still about - maybe we can also log those in Australia and those overseas, a bit like the ADM R32 GT-R thread (where Bob is a regular). I'll ask that people specify the VIN and Model codes from their car to verify that it is a genuine V-Spec or V-Spec II - maybe even with a photo of their chassis plate to go with photos of the car. I think that they are a sufficiently rare and unique model to warrant this. I'll kick it off with an initial post including what info is required for each car that is added, and some bits and pieces about my car. Given that it's Christmas today (and my car's covered in shit after a round trip drive from Adelaide to Melbourne) I'll probably get to this tomorrow when I'm not so frantic and the car has been cleaned! Cheers guys! Mike Ps - Merry Christmas!
  9. Hehehe! No fail - just additional GT-R geekishness. Nice move with the mats. I'm considering doing the same. Mine came with a great set but no driver's mat. I've got a mate in Japan who's going to ask the local dealer what the part number is for the originals, and if they're still available there. The 'Accessories' section of FAST for the R32 GT-R isn't visible on my copy, and even my local dealer here in Adelaide can't access it. The ADM part number is different, so I reckon that the locally delivered cars got different mats. Bob - maybe you can confirm that? It's good to hear that someone else cares for the interior too. Mine came with new in box centre console (handbrake boot was worn) and gear shift boot, so I fitted them fairly promptly when the G-Sensor was getting some attention. At some stage soon I'll splash out the $300 required for a new pair of B/C pillar trims, because the coating is coming away on mine. Other than that, mine is pretty good. Tyre width? No idea really? I can see that they kept the diameter very close to the first V-Spec so that the ATTESA etc. wasn't affected. Maybe they just thought that a bigger contact patch was required - possibly because the V-Spec ATTESA is (rumoured to be) more aggressive, i.e. more front oriented and faster to respond than the standard unit. I hope to clear that unknown up with another letter to Yokohama.
  10. LOL! Well done Bob. Santa might bring you something for Christmas I'm getting something for mine tomorrow - a Real Emotion GT-R dash mat to save it from bubbling up! It arrived just in the nick of time from Japan... this morning. So we have: Standard GT-R tyre 225/50R16 radius = 315mm V-Spec GT-R tyre 225/50R17 radius = 328mm V-Spec II GT-R tyre 225/50R17 radius = 326mm That pretty much covers the differences between the V-Spec and the VSpec II model, except that the V-Spec II had a sticker on the rhs of the boot and the V-Spec didn't.
  11. I can clear this up gents See page 14 of this pdf: http://www.downloads...TR%20Vspec2.pdf Nissan's showroom brochure shows 225/50R17 for the V-Spec (in brackets) and 245/45ZR17 for the V-Spec II
  12. Hi Iplen I was looking at the tyre radius mate, not the diameter. The (approximately) 15mm increase in distance from hub centreline to circumference of tyre will add 15mm to the ride height. Tell me about your V-Spec II. What's your VIN number?
  13. Worked this one out - it's because of the tyre difference. According to http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp: Standard GT-R tyre 225/50R16 radius = 315mm V-Spec GT-R tyre 225/50R17 radius = 328mm The difference is approximately 15mm, which is what the dealership brochure specs show. Using FAST, I can see no difference in part numbers for struts or springs front and rear for standard and V-Spec GT-R.
  14. Well - I've checked FAST with my VIN, and another (non-V-Spec) VIN from October 1993 and there IS a difference in the part numbers for the ATESSA control unit. 4785012U00 - R32 GT-R V-Spec ATESSA E-TS control module 4785005U00 - R32 GT-R V-Spec ATESSA E-TS control module I can confirm that my car has 4785012U00 installed. Some more correspondence with Nissan Japan may be required.
  15. As an aside, I wonder why the two R32 V-Spec models ride higher than the standard model if there are no suspension differences?
  16. Hi all, Being the proud owner of a 1993 'Kouki' series GT-R V-Spec I wanted to ascertain the exact spec for that model (for maintenance purposes) and also the differences between it and the standard GT-R from that series. I found that there is no definitive information regarding this on the internet, and in fact there seems to be a fair bit of misinformation. So I wrote a letter to Nissan in Yokohama (one English version and a formal Japanese translation). They responded about three weeks later with a very polite letter in English and a whole heap of info in Japanese. In the letter they advised that the only differences are that the V-Spec has BBS 17" wheels, Bridgestone Potenza RE010Z 225/50R17 94V tyres and Brembo brakes. My understanding is that this is the same for the 1994 V-Spec II model, although the tyres had become slightly wider (245/50R17). The information enclosed with the letter was all in Japanese and is the following: What appears to be an entire technical bulletin from February 1993 containing the 'upgrades' from the 9/91-1/93 'Chuki' series to the 2/93-12/94 'Kouki' series. This is in the form of an addendum to the service manual and seems to cover the revised (Pull type) clutch, V-Spec Brembo brakes and sundry other information. The great thing about this is that it covers the changes from the Aussie delivered 'Chuki' model to the newer model, so if we can get a translation of this bulletin it will cover the upgrades to '93 and '94 models not shown in the readily available Nissan Australia (English language) service manual. An extract from the 1993 showroom brochure with markups showing the parts of that document that cover the differences between the standard 1993 GT-R and the V-Spec model. I've got an original copy of this, but I can't read Japanese so this copy is handy as it shows where the differences is narrated in the brochure. What apears to be a marked up extract from the 'Chassis' section of a service manual showing the specs of the standard and V-Spec Brembo brakes and illustrating the Brembo calipers. The markups give part numbers for rotors and calipers and (part?) codes OPB27V and OPB13V for the front and rear Brembo systems. Google indicates that they are the exact models that the R33 GT-R uses, which isn't really surprising, but it's good to know exactly what they are so that replacement parts can be sourced with confidence. I've attached all of those docs below. The text of my letter was: 02/11/2012 1-1 Takashima 1-chome Nishi-ku Yokohama-shi Kanagawa 220-8686 Japan Hello, My name is Michael Townsend. Please accept my letter written in both English and Japanese. I do not speak Japanese (English is my first language) however I have had the text translated for courtesy. I hope that you can please respond in English? I have recently purchased a Japanese domestic market Nissan BNR32 GT-R V-Spec and I hope that you can please provide some technical information regarding that model. I know that this was a very limited edition model (1,453 units only) and a significant model in the history of Nissan (produced to celebrate three years of Nissan victory in Group N and Group A racing). My car is chassis number BNR32-305366 and it is a low kilometre example (69,000 kilometres) and unmodified, so I wish to maintain it with the respect that it deserves. I know that there are some differences between the BNR32 V-Spec and the standard BNR32 model, however I am finding it impossible to find exact specifications regarding the ‘upgraded’ items. The information that I have found is very imprecise. I understand that the upgrades include: • ‘Brembo’ brand brakes at all wheels. • ‘BBS’ 17” wheels. • ATESSA E-TS 4wd computer with improved programming (possibly revised programme/map and 100 calculations per second?). • ‘Stiffer’ suspension. Are there more differences than these items? Can you please send to me information regarding the exact specification of the ‘upgrades’ for the V-Spec model? The information that you can provide will be essential for me to maintain and preserve the car properly. Can you please also advise if there was a ‘supplement’ or addition to the Japanese market service manual/maintenance manual for the upgraded items in the BNR32 V-Spec model? I look forward to your response with enthusiasm. I have wanted to own a BNR32 GT-R for the last twenty years after Nissan won the Australian Touring Car Championship with the GT-R in 1990-1992. I am very excited to now own an excellent example and I want to care for it properly in the future. Thankyou. Kind regards, Michael Townsend To add to the knowledge base, I have attached all of the docs that they sent me. Maybe one of you can translate and share? Enjoy! 17. The code in FAST is 96015M (see the pic below). Entering it into the parts database that Amayama use gives this result: http://nissan.epc-data.com/skyline/bnr32/3885-rb26dett/body/960/96015M/ Hitting the 'See all prices' link gives this result: http://www.amayama.c...h/?q=9601505U00 Lowest price approx AUD$267 plus freight ex UAE
  18. Are these front seat only? Can someone please post photos? Has anyone taken the covers off and noticed any tags to identify the manufacturer? Nissan Australia would have outsourced it. If anyone can identify the manufacturer please let me know as I am keen to get some made up, and they may still have the pattern. Lambswool on those contoured seats will save me from getting a sweaty back in the sun, and save my original seat covers.
  19. To be honest mate, I'm thinking of getting some new ones made to go over my JDM seats. Warm in winter, cool in summer and they preserve the stock seat covers. I swear by them.
  20. Hmmm... Interesting! I'll try to ascertain exactly where the noise is coming from. Where is the TX valve located?
  21. Any idea what the FAST SKU ref is or what the actual part number is though?
  22. Thanks guys - I'm going for completely factory spec, so I'll keep on looking on eBay etc. What does NLA mean? Are the GT-R mats the same as those for the GTST for that vintage?
  23. Hi all, Pop quiz – what do you think is causing a tapping/ticking noise when my aircon is turned on? It only occurs when the compressor is engaged, and goes away when the aircon is switched off; It doesn’t occur when only the climate control fan is on; It is worse at low revs – particularly at idle The ‘rate’ of tapping/ticking increases as revs increase but the volume of the noise diminishes as the revs increase (and this is not just because there is more ambient noise); My aircon works fine, even when the noise is occurring. The car is a 1993 R32 GT-R. I recently had leaks rectified and the system was regassed with R134a after several years of relative inactivity - i.e. it was sat in a warehouse for a couple of years after being imported and then had occasional use over 3,000km/one year by the previous owner. Also, all belts, tensioners etc were replaced when I purchased it - this was a precautionary measure as the belts were original (i.e. 19 years old), even though the car had only 66,000km on the clock. Any ideas would be most appreciated! Cheers! Mike
  24. Hi all, I'm having a c*nt of a time finding a genuine Nissan part number for the floor mats for an R32 GT-R. I figure that they're probably the same part as the mats for the other two door models. I've trawled FAST and can't find it. The original mats that I have are excellent - but I'm missing the driver's mat. They're the dark grey ones with the woven diagonal stripe, light grey 'piping' around the edges, and a thin, red plastic 'Skyline' badge on each mat. Does anyone have any knowledge of this? Please help Cheers! Mike
