I was thinking .... you measure your boost pressure at the inlet manifold, and it's say 12 psi with the stock cooler and stock turbo.

If the stock cooler has a pressure drop across it of around 6psi, this would be equivalent to your turbo pushing out around 18psi?

Then ... you upgrade your stock cooler to a nice FMIC with a pressure drop of say 2psi.

Could you then set your boost to run at 16psi (measured at the inlet manifold)??

The turbo would be running just as hard as before, but with a smaller pressure drop.

I see the logic...But..

When I installed my fromt mount IC there was no difference to the boost settings...

I also measure my boost from the manifold and I installed an APEXI Hybrid I/C... (definately felt the better flow of the cooler) but no boost decrease or increase...

Are you sure it's a 6 psi drop accross the standard I/C?

Regards

As for how long the turbo will last, remember that boost is not the only problem for the ceramic turbine. It does not like heat either, so when you turn the boost up it runs hotter (more air in means more exhaust out). Too hot and bye, bye turbine.

Hoep that helps clarify.

    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
