Hi guys and gals.

Just installed my new JVC-KD6150 into my car (2001 R34GTT). All went well except for the very bad radio reception.

Now I did a search and found that you can buy a booster to amplify the signal for reception which I did.

Now I have 2 questions:

1. The booster requires 12Volts supply, so I have wired it to the Accessory Wire so it will turn on the same time as the headunit does. Is this the correct way to connect or should I have wired it to the 12Volt direct feed from battery?

2. I also read on a thread that the JVC Headunit may possibly have a stock signal booster built into it and that it could be powered up via the remote (blue) wire. Any truth to this?

Otherwise the JVC unit works well and I get reasonable reception of most FM radio stations living almost 60km from the city.

Cheers and thanks in advance.

Peter

Wiring it off the accessorys is fine, running it straight off the battery is not a good idea.

as for the head unit i have never used this one before.

Yeah, thought wiring off the battery might not have been a good idea as it would then be pulling power 24 hours a day from the battery.

But what got me thinking was not knowing what the maximum whats you can pull through your auxilery switch (ignition) wiring.

Anyone else had experience with poor reception and boosters and for that matter the JVD KD-DV6150?

Cheers

Pete

Definately not direct powered, as you said... it'll eat your battery.

The remote wire off your headunit should only ever be for remotely triggering something (amps usually). It does feed out power, but i'm not sure if it feeds 12v, and whether it feeds it all the time while the head unit is on. I know it can trigger an amp, but I don't think it would have to be very high-powered to do that.

Other option is to use the remote wire to trigger a relay which is wired directly to the battery. This would turn the signal booster on when the HU is on, and use its own power rather than pulling off the accessories. That said, it would only work if the remote wire puts out a constant voltage I think... and I doubt the booster needs much power at all.

You did check the antenna plug is well inside the HU? Some resist a lot, and then suddenly click in further if you give it a good ol' push.
