I have no idea if they would 'really' last longer than -R's considering a -R Verbatim or +R Verbatim but on paper they are superior. Verbatim both rate their -R and +R's to approx 100years.

Have a read of their Whitepapers.

Wiki has a little on it.

There are a number of significant technical differences between the dash (or often, incorrectly called "minus") format and the plus format, though most consumers would not notice the difference.

One example is the ADIP system of tracking and speed control being less susceptible to interference and error than the LPP system used by DVD-R, which makes the ADIP system more accurate at higher speeds.

Also DVD+R(W) has a more robust error management system than DVD-R(W), allowing for more accurate burning to media independent of the quality of the media.

Additional session linking methods are quite a bit more accurate with DVD+R(W) versus DVD-R(W), resulting in fewer damaged or unusable discs due to buffer under-run and multi-session disks with fewer PI/PO errors

EDIT: Bl4ck32 found Verbatim DVD+R 16x 50spindle at Kmart for $32

I decided to try and find a little more info rather than just come to my conclusion by reading whitepapers.

Found this........ http://www.cdfreaks.com/reviews/Why-DVDRW-...-to-DVD-RW.html

and this http://adterrasperaspera.com/blog/2006/10/...archival-media/

Says basically the same thing.

and this may be of interest.

The DVD-R specification states that for every 192 bits, 48 of them are not protected under any scheme, 24 of them are protected by 24 bits of parity, and the last 56 bits are protected by another 24 bits of parity. This weird (to put it mildly) scheme allows you to easily scramble or lose 25% of the data that is required to read your disk!

Either way there's nothing wrong with -R's.. Just that +R's are supposed to be better.

Yer i went to Kmart yesterday to get a 50s pack of dvd+r, and was looking at what they had available...

TDK is a brand i always favoured, but @ $51 fer 50 discs i thought bugger that...

Looked over and they had the Vertabim 16x DVD+R for $32, so thats where my choice went.

Ive had dodgy $2 shop type discs give to me before to use, and the gold was flaking off within 6 months...

Ive got vertabims here from back when i had my pentium 100 and they are still readable

Theres nothing wrong with my Princo cds that I used back in the day. They have no scratches and read all my family photos fine, I used one to retrieve some old photos last night. If you dont store them properly and leave them on spindles all the time of course its gonna happen.

These are the best DVDs you can buy... (Most durable IMO)

TDK Durable

Best media ive rated. besides of course - Verbatim - which is Taiyo Yuden.

Having fun with Varbatim's Lightscribe discs, anyone seen or used them before?

Paul,

Those scratch proof's look good.

Do they make then in printable?

-----

Princo,

Not all buggered up but just a few, the most important ones. :S

3-4years ago I used to buy the 10packs with case. They were all stored correctly.

If you are backing up important stuff you generally dont need printable media IMO. I dont print fancy things on my pictures cds. But when I burn DVD-Rs (Verbatim) i do. And I use the Lightscribe CD-Rs because its f**king fantastic how you can put the whole cd song list on the front of the CD and make perfect CD front labels using your laser on ur writer and the writers are like 60 bucks! (A DVD writer with lighscribe functiuon).

I prefer a nice tidy small description of whats on the cd with a date. Nice and simple.

I haven't bothered with lightscribe as I have a printer (Canon Pixma MP780) that is capable of printing on CD's + my burner doesn't support it as I bought this one (LG 4167) just as lightscribe was released.

hey guys, do any of you know or have a cheap Lcd lying round (15 to 17') trying to clean up my desk top and get rid of my crt.....

cheers guys

Out of curiosity.,....

Whats the smallest hard drive you have bought and what did it set you back?

20mb Seagate SCSI Hard Drive for my old Amiga 500, back then it was worth ~$600!!!!!!!!

http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showhardware.cgi?HARDID=534

I used to kick some arse in the awesome Test Drive, then Test Drive 2 and then I believe it was Test Drive the Dual. Not to forget Shadow Warrior, Golden Axe, Double Dragon and Shadow of the Beast!! Awseome some of those old games.

Shadow of the beast I used to get my hairs standing up on the back of my neck for some reason.

I remember I used to have hundreds of games back then. Box upon box of disks.

A bit like the Commodore 64 before that with its tapes and then 3/4" floppy's.

I might load up UAE and get in to some double dragon. lol

EDIT: Can't forget Barbarian with its round house head chopping. :P

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
