Its much cheaper to change turbos when you buy the car , rather than spit an exhaust wheel and change the turbos then + the engine . As i said before i dont go much on rwhp or awhp because dynos read differently so i dont quote power . When you do the 1/4 mile you cant cheat on power there .

I wouldnt compare a pushrod V8 with an RB26, totaly different donks but its your choice, if you like to compare them do so . I can tell you one thing you have to do a lot of mods to the V8 commie to even go near a lightly modded GTR and i speak from experiance here, even when you have the power in the commie you will have to use drag ryres to have any chance to even keep up with the GTR.

If you arte seriously looking for a stock 33 R give a p.m. i know someone that has a v-spec for sale at a keen price .

Unfortunately, I can't get the GTR just yet (though I desperately wish i could), I need to pay some bills first, so i am doing some homework.

Modding an RB26 is not so different from a V8, the RB26 is cheaper to about 350rwhp, but once you get to the point where you are replacing 2 turbos and rebuilding the engine with forged internals, the costs are very simiar and the power gains are very similar. But I agree that the Commodore would have trouble keeping up with a GTR simply because of traction issues. But, like I said, they are different engines, making power in different ways, and they don't really need in-depth analysis here.

I am not overly fusses on power figures either, the ET and MPH figures are the ones that tell the story, but the HP figures can be a good guideline when building the engine so you know where you are headed, especially when you are on a budget and are treading a line of a nicely modified engine and going too far. Thanks for the help mate.

Hi mate i thought id post now....that my 33 gtr with zorst, twin airpods,1bar boost and cam gears=251rwkw..

my cars best run at calder park raceway was 12.4 @ 110mph..and that was on bp ultimate and did that same time over 5 passes,so its very consistant.

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
