Guest Mashrock

there are lots of differences between the n1's over all models and lots of difference between the few you get on r34.

from memory only one set is slightly larger than 2530's

but the 2530's are good when matched with cams etc.

HKS 2530:

TURBINE:

Inducer = 53.8 mm

Exducer = 47.0 mm

Trim = 76

A/R = 0.64

COMPRESSOR:

Trim = 63

Inducer = 47.7

Exducer = 60.1

A/R = 0.60

R34 N1's

TURBINE:

Inducer = 53.85 mm

Exducer = 42.4 mm

Trim = 62

A/R = 0.64

COMPRESSOR:

Trim = 55

Inducer = 44.57

Exducer = 60.1

A/R = 0.60

HKS GT-SS

TURBINE:

Inducer = 53.85 mm

Exducer = 42.4 mm

Trim = 62

A/R = 0.64

COMPRESSOR:

Trim = 56

Inducer = 44.46

Exducer = 59.41

A/R = 0.42

Edit: I have my suspicions that some of the A/R numbers are off. It looks to me for all the world like the R34 N1s were the base for the GT-SS, although someone else will have to comment as to whether they use the same catridge.

Hey No one

I recently bought a pair of Garrett GT2860R - 707160-5 and i'm happy. Lots of power on tap and very drivable.

My current RB is getting a bit long in the tooth for big boost and HP, but i'm still having lots of fun. Had some adjustable cam gears fitted as well as the usual bolt on mods

TURBINE:

Wheel dia. = 53.8 mm

Trim = 76

A/R = 0.64

COMPRESSOR:

Trim = 62

Inducer = 47.2

Exducer = 60.

A/R = 0.60

Yep

34N1's sit between GT-SS and 2530

Well if the A/Rs are incorrect, the GT-SSs are basically R34 N1s, at least spec wise. I -- and I'm sure most people -- have also heard the cliams of different exhaust housings on some revisions too.

hey crimmo and mr keets

do you guys have any dyno sheets of them yet??

also whats the spool time like?

and cheers to Iwells for the link .... big help hey

Hey No one,

sorry i'm a million miles from my R at the mo, so i cant post the sheets. Check out turbobygarrett.com and you can see the maps, Mine is making 406hp at the back wheels, I picked up 70rwhp on a 17 year old engine...fuel system running out of puff now. Every combo is different and so is the tune up.

Find a good tuner and ask to see some dyno sheets.

From my research, it looks to me as Lucien suggested: That the R34N1 are more or less the same spec as the HKS GT-SS.

Now remembering that both of the above are based on a Garrett Turbo,

The version of Garrett GT2860r that I bought is the "-7", and I got this because it had more or less the same specs as the GT-SS.

I've recently gone back to the Garrett Website and now find that they have actually mentioned that these are indeed the "OEM on Nissan RB26DETT used in Skyline R34 GTR N-1..."

You can see it here:

http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarre...0R_707160_7.htm

Read the little blurb on the left...

...and yes - they are an excellent turbo I think.

    • Took a little trip  went to nismo hoping the get my fuel tank hoses and unfortunately they told me they didn’t have stock luckily I was able to go to a Nissan parts store and they were able to order them in for me  then can home and cleaned the tank with some degreaser and fitted the new hoses before putting it back in the car
    • 100% I’ll hack into the 33. Strap a turbo onto the RB25DE and/or put the 25 head on a 30 block. 33 passed in cos the reserve was too high. I’ll try lowballing it again and negotiate. Aim is to have it landed and on the road for under 15k, then spend the same amount on top in mods.
    • It's generally best practise to run 1x run without VCT enabled, then 1x run enabled till redline. Overlay the two torque graphs and you'll find the desired RPM to turn off VCT. Sometimes, it might be even worthwhile turning off VCT earlier control torque/cylinder pressure and using VCT purely to spool the turbo.
    • They sell them in Malaysia for about $4
    • First time I ever have issues with Amazon, but my wife often tells me to keep an eye out for fakes. It finally got me. I wrapped up the conversation with Gates. The gentlemen I was talking to seemed to hate his job but the response time on their technical support is outstanding. He stated that the hose is marked with some variation of "SAE J30R10" but that if you only purchase a 1 foot length like I did, it is possible to get a cut between markings and have a blank hose. To no ones surprise, he stated the swelling and "gummyness" isn't normal and to replace/buy from somewhere else (He mentioned NAPA). I'll toss a small end of the new one in gas for a few days before pulling the hanger out again, just to be safe.  Hose should arrive Monday. For those running multiple pump in tank hangers, you know the joys of getting them out and back in. I'm surprised I haven't destroyed my level float yet.  Lastly once I wrap all of this up, I'm planning on hitting the dyno again in 2 weeks while I'm on vacation. I realized recently that my VCT is set to turn off at 5000RPM. I'm surprised it wasn't increased while I was on the dyno last. I'm expecting I can increase it to ~6500RPM, if not more. Should hopefully get another 15-20kw out of it. I also want him to revisit my knock thresholds. I'm occasionally getting false knock around 3000rpm.
