thanks Dana, I will definitely drop in an visit Drew in the next couple of days. Glad to hear he is getting back to being his old self :D .... shows just how the strong the spirit is! Wish him the best from all of us!

On a side-note, do you know what the insurance situation is? If Drew needs to pay the excess to speed things up (even though we all know he wasn't at fault, but these things can take time, especially with a fatality involved), I will organise some events asap to raise the needed cash. He should not suffer more than he already is, so us pitching in for his excess seems only fair. Let me know.

Andrew

Andrew - so far the cops know it wasn't drew's fault. so as far as we know (fingers crossed) he won't have to pay any excess as it wasn't his fault. i don't know how long it will take the insurance company to wrap things up, but i envisage it'll be a while. Thankyou for the offer of raising money to help Drew, but I think he'd want you to save it and spend it on this BBQ you have planned when he gets better. Maybe you should ask him when you see him about it. I don't know. Sorry buddy :D Thanks once again, and i'll probably see you sometime in the near future. Dana

Hey,

Thankyou Dana for letting us know what room he is in. Me and some other are hopefully going to pop in to see him tomorrow if thats alright.

I just like to say i feel for you and the rest of his family i can only imagine what you must of felt when you found out, and you have my deepest sympathy. All the best to you Drew and his family for the future.

As mentioned there are people you can talk to if this is getting stuck in your head.

In my experience of going through thing such as this and in supporting others going through tough times, I put a lot of faith in a BBQ or a trip to the pub with mates and a chance to talk things over with others who are prepared to listen and or contribute to the discussion.

Its short notice but why not meet up somewhere this Friday or Saturday for some food &/or drink. (could be a pub or I am prepared to offer my place as a meeting point)

These things have a habit of hanging around in your mind for a long time if you dont confront them, so please take time to talk to someone when you feel the time is right.

For the info of those not in attendance, it actually was a nice cruise (up to that point), with a great group of cars and guys.

You can find my pics here (click)

And a small video of some cars in the meet spot carpark here (click) (you will need a DivX decoder, you can find some here: http://www.free-codecs.com

Also a pic of the man of the moment and his poor ex-R33 below :P Get well soon buddy!

I still haven't seen any of this on the news or in the paper........but with a post like this i don't need to! Even tho i wasn't in attendance for this particular cruise......It is still good to hear updates on what is happening, thankyou all!

As i have already said and will say again........DREW i wish you best mate! Hope you have a very quick recovery, and it's great to hear your already thinking of what Skyline to get next, Fantastic fella!!!!

Jasmine to you i wish you all the best and a speedy recovery! Fantasic to hear you have woken up and from your situation now........it can only improve!

It shoves down your throat the relization that family is so important. Cherish your loved ones.

My family all said to me they thank god that I had the dble knee surgery on Thursday and hence was simply impossible to join the cruise (wanted a mate to drive my car!), they all feared it would have been me and my3yr old son somehow involved.

I feel guilty in a sense that I suggested that area for a nice enjoyable cruise but I wasnt there for support at a time of need. Im a good ear - if anyone feels they need to type down their thoughts on a pm to me go for it, its ok, Im good for support, and its a good way to exercise your demons. Just remember to walk away from this telling someone you love them.

Im simply thankful that no more people were taken from their loved ones in the accident. Accidents do happen, in all aspects of life; all we can do is wish our best to those effected by the outcome.

To the 3 injured victims and your families I wish you a speedy and full recovery; listen to your body and dont do to much too early, rest and recover. To the family of the deceased, my most sincere thoughts are with you, I gave my son an extra big hug for you.

Brendan

I had heard of the tragic accident in the paper i managed to track down what happened and came accross your thread.

I wish on behalf of my native site (www.thecarscene.com) and all our members, a speedy recovery to the 3 people involved and condolances to the family of the driver who passed away within the accident.

We would also like to pass out our wishes personally to Jasmine who has not only been involved in the accident but also suffered the terrible loss of her boyfriend (i have read this through the forums and hope i am not getting the facts incorrect). Our thoughts go out to you and you are in our hearts and prayers.....

And for all those that witnessed the accident, it sounds like you all were extremely mature and helpful in the horrible situation you were in and im sure those involved will be grateful for your efforts, much can be said for the way you all took it in your stride....

Best Wishes to all

Ryan (cYn) and the rest of thecarscene.com members.

They had a little more on Ch.7 News about the accident.

They mentioned the road markings are confusing. The down hill single lane (where the festiva was) should not be allowed to over take using the uphill (where the skyline was) center over taking/passing lane.

Common sense really..

^^ yeah just saw the same ^^

Saw Drew's car for the first time, mate you are lucky!!

They also mentioned local residents have been complaining about this stretch of road for some time and nothing has been done, they also said the road signs seem confusing and bad visibility around the corner!

Maybe now something will be done about this problem, but all too late!!

I sincerely hope they make that road double lines..

id be very surprised if they did, that involves work.

even if it does save a lives, unless theres pressure from the public, it probably wont happen.

I can't believe you can come down there over a crest.....clearly not bieng able to see over the crest/hill!!! They should have arrows/lights like on Flagstaff Hill Rd at least! Even tho that is quite dodgy at times, but would be alot safer! Our roads are in the crappest conditions compared to every other state........."lets just fill in a pot hole instead of re-surface a 5 metre square section" Think we can thank Mr Rann for these crap roads over the last few years!

Sorry for the rant......but we may have nice roads in the hills, but the roads are certainally not nice to drive on!

granted, south australian roads do suck, they are in worse shape than anywhere else, but you cant really blame the roads for the accident, that was driver error. he made a bad judgement. and he paid dearly for it.

    • Was going to say the car pulls up nicely everywhere, especially going into that last long right hander before the main straight. Looks like a lot of fun.
    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
