I just bought an 040 to replace my fuel pump and have some questions about the install.

I know you cut the bottom of the standard bracket and clamp the pump to the side of the existing bracket with rubber inbetween to stop vibration. What I need to know is:

do you need to use a filter with the 040 or is there a filter on the bottom of the pump underneath the mesh base?

will can the existing fuel line fit over the fitting on the 040 and then be clamped on or do I need a screw fitting of some type?

Can you get a pump assembly gasket from nissan? they said they only come in kits.

If someone would be kind enough to list a "what you need" list.

Also I spent 1/2 an hour digging thru "pump" bosch" 040" threads looking for a photo of one mounted on a bracket but couldn't find one and I was sure I had seen one here before.

sounds good. Did you need to use a new tank seal? and where do you get one.

also are the electrical contacts on the old pump the same? I just want to get everything I need before I pull the car apart.

You will need to find 2 nuts that fit over the 040 terminals

Then just need to solder on some connectors onto the standard wiring and secure them to the pump with the nuts

New tank seal is a good idea, Nissan should be able to source you one

I had mine installed by the mechanics/tuners along with a lot of other gear at the same time, so I cant help much.

Two suggestions: a) I had them direct wire it to the battery feed, so it runs at ~13.8v and not 12v. b) I also made directions that the 040 pump MUST be installed as low in the tank as possible. That way I have no fuel issues, I can go down to near empty and be all ok.

Another thing I found helped, angle the return feed away from the pickup point, as with the higher volume pump, it causes cavitation in the fuel (air bubbles) due to much more fuel being pumped back than the stocker. You might have heard it on some cars with up-graded pumps, sound like the pump is sucking in air

I acutally trimmed my fuel return pipe and attached some fuel hose and angled it well away from the pickup point of the pump. The fuel returning is generally much warmer too.

Wiring it straight of the battery is also a good idea, you can do that later if you find the supply is not enough

DO you need to wire directly from battery or will the 040 pump b ok off of the stock wiring. Will just not pump it's maximum pumping capcity when on stock wiring.

My guess with wiring off of the battery is that the ignition crontrolls the relay that switches the pump on throught the battery is that right?

It's a 12V pump, running it at 13.8 volts does not do anything except heat it up more. You need to cut the earth wire to the pump and direct earth it to the body in the boot somewhere. This removes the dropping resistor from the equation. The resistor is what drops pump speed when you come to idle.

Is that necessary. If your @ idle u dont need alot of fuel being pumped or are there other reasons why it's a good practise to ground it properly.

    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny  
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again 
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
