Hi Guys,

Recently upgraded to a Apexi FMIC which means i now need to remove my pod for my car to be semi legal ;p

in regards to putting an airbox back on can i use one of those carbon / fibreglass boxes which are called cold air boxes?

im trying to find out what the best possible thing i could do, ive heard that the stock airbox will be better for the car as the car would be breathing from the cooler and not the pod / airbox thus creating better airflow....please tell me if that is a false statement.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as im new to the world of modifications and loving learning as much as i can.

Thanks

ok, if you're in VIC you can only have 1 intake modification, which it seems you know anyway. However, having a cold air box around a pod is still an intake modification. Therefore either that or the fmic will have to be removed. The only way you can legally have an fmic is to have a stock airbox installed...period. I would personally put a good panel filter into your stock airbox. Trust me it will still go very well, maybe a little down in top end and "whoosh" sound..lol, but not really that bad. Think of it this way: An fmic will outweigh any negatives of putting a stock airbox on.

damn you guys over east get taken hard! 1 intake mod??

Oh well, it seems an aftermarket panel filter works very well compared to a pod anyway so your performance loss would be very minimal, if anything id say.

Yeah but the whole issue in VIc is not whether the pod is boxed or not, it's the EPA restricting intake modifications to one only. Whether it's boxed or not, if it's not stock and you have a fmic dont whinge when you get epa'd.

    • For race cars, this is one part where I find having the roll cage bar having gone through a hole in the floor better than the build it up on a ledge inside... The Merc I help on, the main hoop ends are marked on the car, and the jack is marked... Jack goes under a few inches and lifts one whole side of the car up... Removes that fight for long slim jacks for race car duties!   My biggest issue for the daily drivers I work on, is my jacks don't go high enough. The jacks start out on a few blocks, jack it up, then start a second jack under it on more blocks, and then I can get an axle stand under it. My axle stands are presently in use, and are nearly fully extended. The car is sitting with barely more than a cm of clearance to get the wheel off the studs! Sarah's Kluger is the same, as it has an ungodly amount of droop available in the suspension and a distinct lack of good jacking points!
    • Happy? Yep, my to do list is getting shorter and shorter. Either this light approaching is the end of the tunnel, or I'm about to be hit by a train... Ha ha ha   Also, Duncan isn't that far out of town that you need to make a multi day drive out of it. 😛
    • Sorry I meant that we are building the EH for a client.

    • I have more than enough digging, laying blocks, moving gravel, airrating, feeding and top soiling the grass, and setting up the veggie gardens growing some seedlings,  and then removing all the unused rock to keep me busy for the next few months at least,  hopefully the rain stops soon so I can get a few hours in this arvo, but, before that Sunday is washing day, is every body happy, you bet your life we are Nice country road day drives are a day off whenever I'm muscle sore from all the landscaping at the moment, but, more epic multiple day drives will start once the majority of the big jobs outside are completed
