Hey all,

Ive got my tools, ive got my time tomorrow i will start pulling the front suspension setup out of my 32 and locate/replace the worn bushes....

Im pretty good with my hands so handeling the bush shouldnt be a problem, any pointers you guys that have had more experience with the bush can give me? Im wondering where is the best place to buy some nice, tight, fresh bush to put in my car... sydneykid? :P

In non dirty terms, my front end is moving like a mo fo, heaps of bushes are shot, shockies are shot too so might wack some new ones in too......

Dealers, numbers, suburbs hookups for

Springs (want to lower it a bit, mayaswell)

Bushes(not kingscross please)

Shockies(new or used?)

any pointers, things i should watch out for, difficulties on the front/rear ends (springs front and back remember)

Im doing this because im selling the car later this year and so im touching it up, i dont want to spend huge amounts of money but i dont want cheap shit... hope that helps

Thanks all

Ed

The 2 most likely cluprits are your stock castor rod bushes and your tie rod ends. Combine that with a dud pair of shocks and you'll have a fairly ordinary front end. Subframe bushes rear will allow a lot of movement.

There are a couple of different size rear lower control arm bushs that the r32 can run. Measure length and diameter before ordering. Noltec are aware of the 2 types but their catalogue only lists the smaller of the 2 (30.5mm dia) but mine runs a bigger, shorter bush about 33mm dia.

Also, id advise getting all the bushes sitting in your hand before commiting to removing the old ones. I received promise after promise when ordering mine and ended up waiting 5 weeks for some bushes.

From experience: Noltec make everything you could ever want but you tend to get forgotten about. Nolathane only make stuff for the front end but you will have it in under a week.

Thanks mate, its all good, the car is sitting in the driveway with the front end disassembled, i have another car to drive....

I might head to one of my good mechanic mates and see what he can do in the way of ordering parts and stuff for me -trade prices, quick delivery and i know im gettting the right thing.... so far on the list

Springs lower it bro

Shocks they are squeeky on a big bump

tie rod ends- shot and spewing shit eerywher

bushes- on the top of the suspension mounting that goes from just above the tyre to the chassis...

Thanks

Ed

Hey Ed

I got my suspension bits from a group buy from Sydneykid, Its in the For Sale: Group buy section

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...showtopic=85591

You probaly may have already seen or been to his threads

He does the R32 Group buy as well, although l bought R33 springs and shocks off him. Bilstein Shocks, Whiteline Springs

If you dont get anything off him, at least shoot him a PM for suggestions, l'm almost positive he'll give you all the advice (unbiased) you need.

And he is not paying me to say this  but l am really happy with the setup and from all the other replies to his various posts, everyone else is also.

Cheers mate and Goodluck

Gordon

don't buy secondhand shocks. unless they are a very good quality rebuildable shock, and you are planning to rebuild them. otherwise it will probably be a waste of money.

I don't think you'll get adjustable upper arms for the front for $159! I certainly haven't seen anything even close to that cheap. offset camber adjusting bushes are more expensive than that! Arms are normally around $5-600 depending on brand, and even then the quality varies dramatically from what I've seen.

I'd suggest the Whiteline stuff too. everyone seems very happy with that gear, and you know what you are getting is quality, and the springs/shocks are setup to work together.

thanks for the reply, the upper arms arent adjustable just direct replacement.

Id love whiteline stuff but as i said before the car isnt going to be mine for much longer therfore no point in blowing thousands which i wont get back..

This project is more about restoration...

anyways im calling every suspension joint, getting the run around from the wholesalers, and no one who deals with the public can order this stuff...

fark me im after front bushes, spings and some dodgey shocks, how hard can it be...

my car is in pieces in my driveway, hard to source parts and esp for a good price...

ca you understand my frustration? (not direct at anyone)

  • 3 weeks later...

hey all, an update.

one of the front bushes has totally disentegrated, meaning the whole front end is out of wack, noticed this today when i was getting the tyres done.

Called up suppliers, they are replacing them under warranty, should get the new set on friday, they will reimburse labour, alignment pretty much all costs associated with the bush failure....

the front end was rattling like a mo fo and once the car had been lowered off the jack at the tyre place the steering wheel was atleast 20deg off centre...

its a hassle but thanks to some good suppliers i should be sweet soon

I wouldn't BUY second hand shocks, springs, bushes etc unless they are in very good condition.. That is, if you look at them, they look almost brand new.

If you can get them for free or ultra cheap, they might be alright. Basically, at the end of the day, you'll be putting something a bit better into your car, but it won't be good.

As siad above, noltec in thornleigh for bushes. They have everything - phone number in the phone book.

heasmans also have good stuff.

Is it worth buying adjustable castor rods or just replace the worn bushes???

I think theres is more labor in changing the bushes alone..

As i can get the adjustable castor rods installed for 330 or so with alignment!!

What you guys reckon??

    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
