I guess i have posted in the SA section about my thoughts on police targeting import cars but how do you think the 4- door generation go with the law? Cefiro's, Laurels and the like seem to fair ok against teh tuff sticker slapping police so it seems. How does everyone else go?

i got done in my ceffy last night, speeding, unregistered vehicle. the police had a good look at the car, but didn't ask to look under the bonnet or check ride height or anything like that. perhaps because i'd been busted for enough already, or perhps because it was a four door and i was co-operative.

4 doors seem to help in not attracting attention (when doing the right thing). but if you're being a dickhead, it doesn't matter what you're in

i've been pulled up for speeding which i talked my way out of, cop was a TMU officer and didn't seem to fussed about the car. Only had a quick double look at my boost guage when he saw it as he walked back to his car. Also been tailed by the imfamous Knox TMU officer for a fair distance and no trouble - although mind you my car still has a quiet exhaust and nothing obviously defectable, also I don't drive like a dick.

i personally get pulled over at least twice a week, i never do anything stupid i never speed, i never do anything illegal i drive slower than most people i know

yet i still get hassled, i guess cops see the car im in and how young n flashy i am and assume i'm a meth dealer...

Gotta admit man, speeding, no rego your kind asking for it a bit :( and no offence, but you should have been done. Thats just silly driving un regoed.

Mr Eps, you got shinny wheels? And your in Perth right? Mark used to live in Perth and from what I was told gave the cops a good run around with his RB26 cef. So they probably just dont like them over there.

I've only been pulled over twice in 2.5 years. And only got done on one of those occasions.

TOUCH WOOD!

I havnt been done yet in about a year and half. My car is legal height at the chassis but exhaust sits too low and has a moderate sounding exahaust.

Been followed by numerous police / TMU / Undercover TMU and nothing happened yet. If the car isn't obviously illegal they usually dont mind (and if ur not driving like a knob) thats why i got rid of my kit. So when the new exhaust comes it wont be so obvious :(

completely agreed Daveo, the car is booked on tuesday for a RWC. i drove to the petrol station to fill her up for the track day at Winton today, put the foot down in the back street and an unmarked car spotted me. i'm not one to whinge & cry about it. i did a number of wrong things and will wear a suitable punishment for my actions.

on the plus side, i don't have to go court, and once the suspension of my license comes into effect, i can put more time & effort into the car. new kit......

I havent been looked at more then twice.

Then again my car is only painted with an exhaust. Not lowered or over the top.

I guess if u drive to the law they will think ur just another dad or mum driving their kids to school or something.

Tis fun getting the looks by police when they have know idea what my car is.

When i had that ex ken satoh ceffy i drove it around all over the place... past cops, tailed by cops and nothing happend and that thing wasnt registered, didnt have plates, sat about 1inch off the ground, RB26, cage and had a 3inch straight pipe with no cat for an exhaust.

i even pulled into a servo and behind me two cops pulled in to fill up... i was blocking them and they couldnt move until i had finished, started it up and gave it a quick blip of the throttle to get it going... started pulling out.... floored it to get upto speed, quick change down to get into the other lane for a u turn (blowing flames) and they didnt even pull me over...

yet in my soarer, R32 i got pulled over all the time.

just doesnt make sense...

I still cant believe you never complied that car. And ever more so I cant believe i didnt buy it before it got raped  Poor Ken Sato must be turning in his workshop.

lol yeah in all honesty i shouldnt have got it in the 1st place.

altho i dont regret it... the time i did have it i had lots of fun in it

was a massive car... (as in awesome not large... altho its a cef of course its large)

i remember the shock on so many peoples faces and the utter confusion it caused back then. No one had seen one before and there werent as many around as now and with that kit and wheels it had an awesome stance on the road. I remember taking off from the lights and seeing an old lady jump from fright haha.

I live in S.A and have been pulled over plenty of times in my ceff, but only defected once. I was in the wrong place at the worng time i guess, was a female copper that defected me, she was driving the other way, spotted my shiny intercooler did a instant u-turn after me and pulled me over, bam, defect :D

Most of the time coppers dont look at my ceff really but as soon as they hear some turbo "noises" then they seem alot more interested in the car.

lol yeah in all honesty i shouldnt have got it in the 1st place.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
