low down is, i got car serviced on fri morn, it seemed perfectly fine, with the report saying all it needed now was a front end allignment etc...

got home from drive ins last night, put car into PARK tunred stereo off, and i could hear a fairly loudish whistling/whining noise from under the hood..as soon as i turned her off it stopped, but turned her back on and it came back again after about 5 secs..(the temp gause is always norm, i am sure of this cause i am paranoid about temp from a previous bad experince)

just took her for a burn around the block a few times at norm temp, and came back no noise at all apart from nomral, however when i switch the key off I THINK!! i heard a little slightest squel if you wanna call it but cant be sure

anyone know what this could be please..... i have to drive to adelaide tomorrow morn(moday)

i attach a pic of something that i thought was wierd but not sure if thats the way it should be or not(the little slits/holes between the pipes)

hmmmm i dont know what to do, wether to still go to adelaide or not, either way if i do i think ishould get racv total care so if i do die on the way up there, i can at least get a free tow all the way back home from anywhere in aus, and get a hire car for therest of journey hehehe....this sucks, always something happens either when you have to rely on the car or you have had a good night(ie the meet) then get home and something like this freaks you out)

it sounds like the belts, check the tightness if the belts if they are hard as a rock or loose when pushing them down, thats your problem and you'll need take it back to where you did the service and loosen them or tighten them accordingly.

yep i had a similiar problem on my silvia and it turned out to be power steering pump, it was hard to figure out what it was too!

My mechanic told me that if i drove it too long like that the pump might seize or something and damage other parts ending up in a big bill$$$...

So check your steering pump, if its not that then maybe waterpump?

A couple of possabilitys here:

1. Does it sound like Air squealing out? (rubber hose?) vacum type sound?

2. Or more of a rubber on metal sqealch?

if it sounds like no 1;

Check all your intake rubbers & seals, make sure all clips are tight. (keep in mind that this leak might not be noticable, but under presure or vacume it might open, a split or pinhole in a rubber seal somewere, or even pipping .)

After you have checked everything under the hood, it might pay to take your front bar off and check your intcooler and intercooler piping. If you car is running higher than factory boost, it could be possable that there is a slight "stress" fracture in your cooler or some of the pipping. basicly check everything air travells through.

If it sounds like number 2;

Go down to repco, or somthing and buy some CRC Belt-Grip and spray it on all your belts (Not too much otherwise it will make a whining/supercharger sound). this will establish weather it is infact a worn belt or, a worn part that the belt runs. eg powersteering, ac etc. if it still makes a whining sound, its then a process of elimination: look for worn components under the bonnet. eg leaky power steering?, is there a way that oil can leak onto a belt? Does it still make the noise with your A/C on & off??

Also it might pay to check your timing belt. ( DONT SPRAY THIS BELT WITH BELT SPRAY!! =)

Good luck & Hope this helps.

    • Nope.    Grab a varex and turn it down as you get close to home, win win?
    • So, I've had my V36 for about a month now and have already copped an "excessive exhaust noise" notification from QLD TMR, reported by someone in my local area. It's a twin as per the original, and can have a bit of a throaty note to it when idling cold 😄 and if I do get up it a bit, it can be noisy, but it did pass a roadworthy inspection before sale, so.... ... but in the interest of being a good neighbour, I do want to quieten it down a bit. Is anyone here running a quiet aftermarket cat-back on their V36 or 370Z? And the big, bold question: does an aftermarket cat-back really make much of a performance difference on these cars?
    • The wiring diagram for the R33 RB25 is freely available, and is essentially the same same as most other RBs (just with differences as to which pin # does which job). To get the ECU to power up, you just need to provide power to the ECCS relay, and have the other power feeds that come in from the top left of the wiring diagram (wrt the ECU) that give perma power to the fuel pump relay, the ECU itself, etc etc, all connected. When you put power on all these it will just come to life. It's pretty clear from the diagram what needs to happen. Just follow the lines from the 12V + supply stuff in the top left over towards the ECU. I've even posted snips of such diagrams (not for vanilla 25, I think for Neo and 26) to various threads here in the last few months, talking about what it takes to get the fuel pump and FPCM up and going. Search these up and they will help get you started on doing the same with the vanilla 25 diagram. Hell, for all I know, I've done the same with that one in years past and have forgotten.
    • Yep...so unless someone posts up the answer you will need to probe from the ECU connector to the dash plug with a multi meter in continuity mode to trace the wires.  Note the ECU has multiple - and + (and across different key settings - Battery, IGN and Start) and most likely the power is fed from the connector(s) that is normally near the left hand headlight.
    • Thanks Duncan, I am actually just trying to get the Rb turning and running with the RB25DET S2 original loom itself  I am just trying to get it going outside the body and not thinking about the S15 or trying to match anything to the S15 loom at all I am only trying to see if anyone has done this and what pin they found to be the ignition trigger and ECU+/- on the dash connector, that's about it. Thanks
