Dirty Intercooler Internals

Recommended Posts

gday all

i recently pulled apart my smic on my new R33 gtst to have a bit of a look. The inside of the cooler coil was coated in a black oily substance? I also noticed the stock air box had a square hole cut in it with a hack saw before the filter. someones bright idea. Is crap in the boost lines normal? The car does have a slight miss on idle but otherwise is pretty sweet up to 6000. i have fitted a KN pod, R34 smic and 3" nismo catback exhaust. Boost is stock. would this crap be causing my engine to miss.

i would like to hear your comments on this matter

Have you already put the new R34 SMIC on? If it hasn't already been washed, you should do it. Block one end of the cooler, get a kero and petrol mix (50/50, totalling around half a litre) and pour a bit into the intercooler and give it a good shake, then tip it out (no, NOT down the drain), and repeat three or four times until it starts to look more like the mixture that went into it in the first place, i.e. clean!
