Is that a “what is it legal to tow with a Stagea” question?

That seems to vary from state to state. With override brakes in NSW it is the weight of the Stagea (1600 kgs or so), with power (electric in my case) brakes it’s 2.5 tonnes.

If it is a “how does a Stagea handle the towing weight” question?

The R32GTST on the trailer weighs around 1700 kgs plus I carry around 150 kgs of tools and spares. It hustles that (all up 3.5 tonnes) along very well, keeps up with a V8 Landcruiser (with similar race car/trailer on the back) no problems.

Note that I have a large automatic transmission cooler, which is an essential for ANY towing, an R34GTT intercooler and around 50 rwkw more than standard.

The only problem is the fuel tank (65 litres or so) is very small when you are towing that amount of weight and drag on a long trip. The Landcruiser has a 150 litre tank/tanks, so it goes more than twice as far between stops.

:) cheers :P

SXR - Ive got a tow bar on my Stagea and ive towed a 6x4 trailer full of bricks/tiles, an S14 and a 180sx with no worries at all.

You would have seen me at the SAU heathcote drag day too. White S1

The car goes pretty well when towing and the brakes arnt THAT great but you learn to use em properly. Only issue I had was the car was a little low so I just had to mount the neck upside down to raise it a bit but that was fine.

My car will be for sale in a few months if you are interested in one with a tow bar already.

also make sure that you have a towbar rated at the weight that you are going to tow. probably wouldn't be a good idea to tow 1700kg with a towbar rated at 750-1000kg. it may pull it, but it may also snap on the highway at 100kmh.

try to visualise that happening without the safety chain...

I am going to ask around the 14-15k mark with an S2 front on the car including towbar and maybe some wheels.

Very well upkept car, nothing but genuine parts/best oils/fluids used.

Can speak more in 2-3 months when the car is for sale though.

BTW. My tow bar is rated at ~2000kg

    • The filter only filters down to a specific size. Add to that, the filter is AFTER the pump. So it means everything starts breaking your pump even if its being filtered out.
    • Just like in being 14mm too small (296mm) makes it not fit, being 14mm too big (324mm) it also won't fit. You want to find the correct rotor.
    • @GTSBoy Ok so that was the shops problem...they showed R33 rotors on R34 page and i did not know 296 do not fit(and are for R33) Yes i bought "kit" with rotors and pads. Pads are ok(i have GTT calipers front and rear). They have some 324mm but no 310mm. So i dont know if they would fit. I have 17inch LMGT4s So another question. Can i fit those in the rear or they are just "too" big for that?
    • I started removing the tank a while back with the intent to give it a proper clean. Got to a bolt that I couldn't undo completely due to a diff being in the way, so just said f**k it and siphoned the gluggy old fuel out and called it a day. Looking it the tank it looks less corroded than the one in the pics for that billet hanger from Frenchy's anyway. Isn't it the fuel filters job to worry about this stuff? I scraped off most the crusty shit of the hanger but will give it another go before reinstall coz maybe the fuel and return pipes are also full of gunk
    • Pretty sure it is a common fault. I believe this is the only part you need, but don't quote me as I don't have a V36.  I also believe it is a bit of a pain to change and the device needs to be encoded to the car once it is replaced, so may need someone with the right tools.
