hey guys i got a power fc on my r33. i was just wondering if my power fc reads a temp of over 90 after a while of driving should i be worried? the temperatire needle is always on half way so it seems ok there, but just wondering what should the average reading of the water temp on the power fc be.

Hmmm... How high over 90? 99 or 91?

There is a bit difference between the two. :)

If its 90/91 i wouldnt be worried, depends on other factors aswell.

Cruising 100km/h is it the same?

Is it only that temp in peak hour traffic?

Bit more info dude, but it sounds ok at this stage.

my old man's corvette gets up to 110deg in traffic before the fan comes on

remember the water is under pressure so it boils at a much higher temperature than normal water. plus there's the anti-boil added that should assist even further..

The thermostat is 82 deg C??? On the street my handset say about 82-85. So for potting around the thermostat isnt cracking???? Or should i be checking that mine is ajmmed open. Because my temps sit so low on the street, i normally pull the pin at the track when the temp gets to around 90-95 (depends how much lomger the session is and how hot ther dy is etc if i push past 93 etc

82-85 on the street is A-OK Roy. The temp sender may not be accurate to the degree but most engine temps sit at or just above the thermostat temp. On hotter summer days it'll be 5-10C higher than the thermostat temp. Normally a thermostat will close roughly 5C lower than its set temperature.

Also I think high 90s is OK for the track. I'd probably think about pullin the plug when its more like 110C? Remember with a proper cap + coolant it wont boil until 120C.

I think the other dude meant to say the 'R34' thermostat begins to open at 82degree's.

The R32/R33 on the other hand begins at 76degree's.

If the thermostat is genuine or not also depicts the cars operating temperature and how quickly the thermostat opens completely. The genuine opens slow and by little amounts until its nice and hot. This results in a slightly warmer running temp with less fluctuations and a considerably quicker warmup.

The aftermarkets (supercrap autostores etc) open wide and really quickly, the aftermarkets also take ages for the car to reach operating temp from a cold start. On my sisters VL it would tend to run hotter under consistent load with the aftermarket but run cooler just pottering around, in the R32 I haven't seen this problem, it simply ran cool all the time; all though I didn't get to 'really' test it out in hot weather. I dropped the genuine thermostat in the VL as it ran much better and wouldn't over heat when giving it a boot full up willunga hill.

Both genuine and aftermarkets are rated to 76.5degree's.

    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
    • There's not a great deal to report here .... except ...... FOR .... LSD!!!  I bought a Quaife LSD from the UK and shipped it here .... Wish I'd just bought locally cause the shipping and duty was $700! But there were so many diffs used in the E90s I just wanted to be absolutely certain I was getting the right one so I spoke with a supplier in the UK who builds race cars and they have heaps of experience with the E90s.  I pulled the diff out which was seriously awesome - I've never done anything like that before, I must have watched 1000 videos on YT about it as well as consulting the Bentley manual. It was super easy in the end. The diff was delivered to the awesome folks at Hornsby Diffs and will be back in a few weeks. I also replaced the diff bushings with some Nolathane ones.  Really looking forward to getting it back and getting back to the track or even the skidpan.
    • yeah... the 13kg/mm springs weren't always in there, I had 10kg/mm but doing a few SMSP commanded heavier front springs. It's so good now going into T1 and T2, just need more seat time and real tyres.
