Well my clutch has been slipping lately, as its a stock clutch on a ~180rwkw r33...

Was driving one time with a mate and he spotted like faint smoke coming front the gearbox area in the cabin... i was thinkin clutch well anyhoo today i overtook someone on the highway and i saw the smoke... coming pretty much from the shifter area i think. it not a heap of smoke... just kinda like a lit ciggie perhaps a bit less if thats some sort of description :(

anyhoo i searched and browsed some old threads and to my understanding that when a clutch goes smoke will come from the back of the car, not into the cabin. and it will be grey/black? whereas what i could be experiencing is a leaking transfer case? can anyone elaborate on this?

Im betting clutch, as it is the stocker and i have been driving like a p plater... but need some opinions on how to check it...

the clutch is getting done this week anyway so are there any things i should check / get him to check when he does the clutch?

Thanks heaps... wish this thing was as easy as the commodore :P

Get someone who knows cars to smell it. Clutch smoke stinks, gearbox oil smoke smells bad and engine oil smoke is quite pleasant in comparison but still not that good.

Haha...why did that make me laugh out loud and get funny looks from everyone around the office??

no biggy? nah it didnt smell... not like when the clutch slipped last time. im trying to get the bloody stez installed and now ive got a clutch comin and now theres a leaking seal? is it something that could be done with the clutch installation?

Can i check the manual gearbox oil like ya can with an auto?

Had a look under the car when i dropped it off for the clutch. there was a little oil coming down between the gearboc and motor. He said that shouldnt be causing the smoke... as its no where near the exhaust... but i spose when the car is moving it could go anywhere under the car...

meh... in case yous were wondering.

theres a hose that comes down under the car next to the trans pretty much... the gy reckoned it was the aircon hose... is it? coz THAT would explain it...

    • Yep, the closest base tune available was for the GTT, I went with that and made all the logical changes I could find to convert it to Naturally Aspirated. It will rev fine in Neutral to redline but it will be cutting nearly 50% fuel the whole way.  If I let it tune the fuel map to start with that much less fuel it wont run right and has a hard time applying corrections.  These 50% cuts are with a fuel map already about half of what the GTT tune had.  I was having a whole lot of bogging when applying any throttle but seem to have fixed that for no load situations with very aggressive transient throttle settings. I made the corrections to my injectors with data I found for them online, FBCJC100 flowing 306cc.  I'll have to look to see if I can find the Cam section. I have the Bosch 4.9 from Haltech. My manifold pressure when watching it live is always in -5.9 psi/inHg
    • Hi My Tokico BM50 Brake master cylinder has a leak from the hole between the two outlets (M10x1) for brake pipes, I have attached a photo. Can anyone tell me what that hole is and what has failed to allow brake fluid to escape from it, I have looked on line and asked questions on UK forums but can not find the answer, if anyone can enlighten me I would be most grateful.
    • It will be a software setting. I don't believe many on here ever used AEM. And they're now a discontinued product, that's really hard to find any easy answers on. If it were Link or Haltech, someone would be able to just send you a ECU file though.
    • Yes sir am asking is there possible way from aem tuner from wiring pins
    • Have you checked cam to crank timing and confirmed balancer marks are correct?
