Hi guys,

I've got a few questions about the Nismo Bilstein coilovers on my R34 GTT.

But first here some pics and info I had translated from a japanese yahoo auction.

It is the NISSAN genuine option NISMO BILSTEIN suspension kit genuine upper attachment for skyline ER34. NISMO ???????????????? For 25GT-V 25GT TURBO Rate F: 3.2kg R: Approximately 3.2kg approximately 2cm? Because it is vigorous in the bottle bottle approximately approximately 1 year 2 month 1 ten thousand km without either ?? and a oil leak etc. of the shock which considerably is around the clean foot with those of utilization with things such as 3cm down & price 132,600 Yen trade-in car ER34, still it is yet to come! Also riding comfort being comfortable from cheap height pitch and the like, the town riding? My questions are :

1. Were these factory fitted to all R34 GTT's or were they an option?

2. Is it possible to lower my car say an inch and retain these coilovers? and implications of this.

3. simple question, from your knowledge are they any good? e.g. how do they compare to the whiteline bilstein gtt package?

Hi Howie, from memory the R34GTT Nismo Bilstein option was 15 mm lower than standard, similar height to an R34GTR. You can have the additional circlip grooves added (same as the Group Buy) if you want to go a little lower. I would suggest 3 grooves at 8 mm apart as a maximum. That will give you the potential to go down 24 mm from where they are now (ie; 39 mm lower than standard). They handle best around 350 mm front and 340 mm rear (ie; 30 mm down from standard). So the second additional groove would be the go.

If you want to go that low you will need camber kits, so please keep the following in mind when lowering yours. This is what is usually needed for each height increment, note that all measurements are centre of wheel to guard;

Standard (new) height is 380 mm front and 370 mm rear

360/350 mm needs only the standard rear camber adjusters

350/340 mm needs 1 front camber kit and 1 rear camber kit

340/330 mm needs I front camber kit and 2 rear camber kits

I am looking for the exact shocks for my GTT for quite sometime already but i don't have the part number for it. Any chance of checking them for me cause my local distributor is kinda lame & don't cater much to Skylines. Heard that with matching Eibach springs the car will handle better with the Bilstein combo shocks.

I can arrange a set for you through the Group Buy at retail minus ~15%, freight is free to wherever you want. Some things you need to know:

1. There is no "off the shelf" kit for an R34GTT

2. There is an "off the shelf" kit for the R33GTR and R34GTR

3. You will need a spring change to the R33/34GTR kit to suite the R34GTT (I know what rates to use)

4. The shock valving will accommodate the spring change (I have checked it on the shock dyno)

5. There is no stock in Australia, they are airfreighted in from Germany on payment of a 100% deposit

6. The springs used are made by Eibach for Bilstein (they have Bilstein signage)

7. The R34GTT springs are Eibachs

8. The kit is not cheap, especialy when you add the costs of the R34GTT Eibach springs

The above is why your local distributor is not all that interested.

    • Working through possible solutions of converting my mechanical speedo.    Anyone know what type of speedo sensor the factory r34 gtr getrag has ? what the output is ? I assume its not a VSS and more a voltage like earlier speedo sensors ? Can an ECU read it ?  
    • roof rail delete used to be a thing, they were made locally for a while too
    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps  
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car. 
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
