I had an early day today so needing new tyres for the Skyline I went and visited Steve at Bob Jane Toombul. I wanted 4 Yokohama A539s and I had intended to book it in for next Saturday. But he had them in stock ready to go in my size 235/45 R17. So I crumbled and got them then and there.

Basically the straight saving on the tyres was about $85 on the cheapest quote I had gotten anywhere else. I also got the Nitrogen treatment and the works balancing at a discounted rate. All up a saving of over $100 and I have to say the car definately feels a hell of alot better. Shitty Federal tyres!

In conclusion, I am extemely happy with the service, happy with the discount, and very happy with the car 'feel' afterwards.

At this stage very satisfied and would like to thank Slip for organising this! THANK YOU!

P.S. Even got a 'free' Yokohama windscreen heat shield thingy. Cool! Oh, and I also got another Nitrogen sticker, anyone need one?

If you do some search on performance forums about A539, they are average tyres, no where near as good as older A509.

Yoko AVS ES100(no stock) and higher range are the ones I would probably go for. Then again each to their own so as long as you are happy its all good. :D

The old man has had both A509 and the A539 and he liked them both. He actually thought the 509s were a tad noisey.

I was initially looking at the ES100 but as you said, there is a bit of trouble getting them at the moment, and besides like most people all my choices are a compromise between what I want and what my wallet can afford. The ES100 were really stretching the budjet and I am assuming they would be quite soft so mileage wouldn't be that great. I know if I am not too lead footed that the mileage with the 539 should be ok.

Anyway, I have already done 1000k on the 539s and I can tell you the are light-years ahead of the Federals in ALL conditions. If the next step is just a big I would be impressed.

The only people I have heard complaining about 539s are people with small/light cars, I assume this is because of the 539s relatively hard compound??? The old man loves them of his Commodore, hated them on his Lotus S1 replica. That sentiment seems to hold true at the club sprint/hillclimb events we attend.

discount cards for all of qld will be provided with membership, but the Toombul store has gave those who attended the event VIP cards. The guys from Bob Jane have tried to send them to me on more than one occasion but something is happening along the line and we are not recieving the QLD discount cards. Still trying!

539's are a good tyre, but only on a properly set up car.

The discount cards for QLD will give you the exactly the same as these VIP cards.

Yup, 205/55/16 on the front and 225/50/16 on the back, and looking like clearance is no problems (with the super low/hard suspension). The reciept is in bris (and I'm not) but will pm you the price. I also got nitro gas. As always, they were great, and its a pleasure to drive.

QLD Raceway - here I come (also cruise on the 19th too, but racing was more fun)

Had to go to a wedding at Mt Mee on Friday. It started at 4pm, I got a puncture at 2pm. A peice of what looked like a bearing casing embedded in my tyre. Great, my tyres are only a 8 days old. Took it to Toombul on the space saver (not a good look) and they put it on the hoist straight away and repaired it for me at no charge! Still happy!

Hey ppls,

My mate just recently went over a speed bump at chermside shopping centre (in his R33), and by the sounds of things dinted (and may even punctured a hole)in his HKS exhaust. Is there any way you can fix it, or do exhaustes once there rooted have to be replaced. I dont think hes game enough to look at the real extent of the damage, cos of from what hes heard HKS exhausts are top quality and very exe? He said hes definetly lost power, and can sort of hear a whistling sound when he drives now, is this bad for the car at all? Just wondering whether there are any other BOB Jane Tmart meet ups in the near future?

i just got mine done at the local.. it was cracking where the pipe met the muffler at the back. they chucked it up on a hoist and were done in 5mins for free... twice..

quality not great, but i figure its going to keep happening so not going to waste big bucks on making it perfect every time.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
