Nightcrawler
Nope the new clutch is strong as .... I was doing launches at over 4,000 rpm and she held out .... and I don't need any more than that cos I can't see myself bettering my 1.90 60' times Im SURE your car can do under 17s so we'll stick with that just to be safe ROFLMAO Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/13375-rpm-performance-centre-private-air-drag-day-sat-31st-may/page/3/#findComment-265849 Share on other sites
TIMMMAYYY
Yea im aiming for a low 15, but the clutch is slipping badly. Thankfully a new one is on order! If i cant do a decent time it just means it's time 2 do some decent mods! whatsisname
Limited spectators would be best. Each person is allowed 1 pit crew member. I don't think a "FEW" extra friends/family attending is going to be a major issue? It will depend on AIR firstly & majority rule after that I guess? SR910, All good questions mate. I'll need to clarify these but here's my best guesses so far; Pit crew - normally 1 but as I've posted above, a "FEW" friends/family "shouldn't" be a major issue. AIR policy & majority will decide this. Support vehicle - no problems Racing another car - If you've paid then I don't see a problem with racing another persons car. Bringing 2 cars to race having only paid once - hmmm? Dunno' about that one? TIMMMAYYY, Of course you can mate Hell I ran a 16.3 last meet. I'll put you down in the list. SR910
As i would be trailering my car in i was going to bring a few guys to help me if i break something etc. I supose they wouldnt complaine about 2 ppl coming in. As it would probably be the first time the car would be run so plently of things will be expected to go wrong. Also what are the desired slicks to be used, i heared hoosiers arent really the best??? whatsisname
SR910, I spoke with Anna from AIR & she basically said that the ball game changes dramatically when you have"spectators" as such. In other words - insurance becomes a big issue & it is treated as a full street meet. BIG $$$ ! So the way around that is we have ~2 pit crew for those that "need" it Some may have 2 mates, others might have the wife & child Slicks? Wouldn't have a clue about slicks sorry mate. I'd have a chat to Munro or GTRking about the best choice of slicks. whatsisname
The drag day is booked for Sat' 31st May. If the weather turns nasty on us it will be held the following Sat' (& so on). The event will be single lane only. Unfortunately that's the only way a private day can be held, unless we have a spare 50k+ (probably more!?) to cover insurance costs That just means - when you're up - ALL EYES ARE ON YOU! 2 pit crew members is fine. Total track hire fee is costing $4000. This includes full track prep, staff & timing gear. We will aim for 50 cars. Entry fee is $85. This will mean a small amount left over to cover prizes. 50 cars will mean ok prizes. If we get 65 cars - excellent prizes... & so on! With only one lane 50 cars is probably more than enough. Entry fee is to be paid by dropping in to RPM Performance Centre -26 Deloraine Road Edwardstown 5039. Ivan has entry forms to be filled in there & then. Payment needs to be made 1wk prior to the event date. We should know the times within a day or so. We're aiming for 12.30pm till 7.30pm. That's about it for now Cheers all, Matt If anyone has any issues with anything regarding the day pls PM me & I'll do my best to help Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/13375-rpm-performance-centre-private-air-drag-day-sat-31st-may/page/3/#findComment-268852 Share on other sites

whatsisname
Thanks Erica Might be better to hold the cheers till after the event though Don't wanna' have things go wheels up on me before it happens! Nightcrawler
I'm considering not coming due to only 1 lane. Not racing someone else is a whole heap less fun! I don't understand how the insurance cost is so great for 2 lanes .... surely AIR don't pay astronoical prices like your quote for 2 lanes for the street meets. They would be making a huge loss when only around 50-100 cars turn up for the street meet (like March's meet). There was no way there were 100 cars there that day x $50 = $5,000 income for 2 lanes, plus they would have all other costs associated. They are a business, and are there to make money, so this equation doesn't add up! Put me down for a maybe if only 1 lane is available. whatsisname
Andy, Sorry dude nothing we can do AIR cannot run a private meeting with both lanes open fullstop. If they do it is considered the same as an open meet! Why? I don't know? That's just the way their insurance cover is. Even if we wanted to have heaps of spectators (10 per person for example) it then gets classed the same as an open meet! Insurance company policies often don't make sense AIR's policy is one of these I guess? It does make sense though, when you think about it. 2 cars side by side increases the chance of a serious accident quite considerably. As for AIR not covering costs on regular s/meets if the insurance cost were so high - The driver entry fees are only part of the earnings from a s/meet - Spectator fees ($17 per head) Vendor stall takings (& fee's from the vendor to be there in the first place) Their overheads wouldn't be all that much either. My 50k insurance quote is probably a tad over the top but it would be more than we could cover with 50-60 private entries! I'd say if we had a lot of funds we could probably organise just about anything we wanted out at AIR. But with 50-60 cars it's not gunna' happen A good work mate of mine was a top level comp drag competitor (7sec Thunderbird) he travelled OZ & competed with full sponsorship. A sponsor that hired the AIR track regularly just for him & his car! He told me earlier today they priced up what it cost to hold a full comp meeting (big event!) It worked out close to $200,000 to set up & run! This included advertising, insurance cover, the whole lot. This guy doesn't bullshit! Clint32
Its is understandable if you consider that AIR has a duty of care when you are racing, when there is only one person they can only hurt themself, as long as AIR has a safe facility then its not there problem if you crash your car. But consider 2 people and someone crashes into you in their crazy carsideways down the strip, you didnt do anything wrong so you have to get someone to fix your car, their insurace probably has to cover this. MattR
All valid point i supose. ill still be there. Andrew you can join me as pit srew if you dont bring your car. But you should anyway, just think $85 for all day to practice starts and get good times compared to $50 for 3runs and alot of doing nothing. If your not brining your car we have just found our cook for the barbie:D Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/13375-rpm-performance-centre-private-air-drag-day-sat-31st-may/page/3/#findComment-269649 Share on other sites
TIMMMAYYY
I think it'll be good cos u can suss out everyones car in a friendly going atmosphere that doesn't hav the yobbo's associated with normal street meets! Looking forward to it too. I'll hav a new clutch thankfully as well. whatsisname
Ivan WILL, if need be, cover the difference if we don't make the necessary numbers. 47 cars = $3,995 ($4,000 to hire AIR) That's a pretty generous gesture I think! Clint32
Looking at the list allready even if not everybody comes there is a few people from just here, im sure Ivan has a few RPM customers that will be there so 50 should be an easy number to achieve.
