So after finally destroying my best lap time at Eastern Creek, courtesy of running DJ-01s, i have now noticed i have a bloody big blister down to canvas on my front right tyre.

Obviously turns 1, 2, 8 and onto the straight (10,11,12) stress the right side tyres.

When bolting on the tyres the dealer did advise that the grippier rubber will have me wearing the outside of the tyre, as i wouldnt be running enough camber or toe to get the most out of the tyre (or get the best endurance/wear out of the tyre)

So currently im running : Front - Camber - 2.1deg

Castor - about 5.5

& no Toe

So East Coast will be setting up the front as to not destroy fronts, but compromise is it will destroy my normal road rubber.

So directed at the guys who run the DJ01s, Potenzas, Advan etc compounds, how do you combat destoying EXPENSIVE track rubber with street suspension settings, or do you put up with poor road wear in order to look after your track rubber.

... and for the record i was amazed at the performance increase. I was carrying about 15-30 km/hr more speed thru corners, and car braked a lot better. And this was with a susp setup that would start to understeer after about 4 laps due to the blistering of the outside of the front tyres.

I have the same problem...I have similar figures for camber etc...

I use $110 kellys to drive around on...wear rating of 430 or thereabouts...you cant wear them out I promise you. You just need to take your time in the wet.

2nd option find a piece of crap to drive every day and use the line for what it was intended...going really fast.

By the way how did you decide 2.1 camber was good, just out of interest? How do you adjust your camber?

Russ

Originally had more camber in the front, which to drive seemed to help turn in, or give sharper response, except daily tyre wear was terrible. Current 2.1 seems to be a little kinder on road tyres, but obviously not enough for track rubber with its additional grip

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
