R33 Gtst Carbon Fibre Door Sills - Now Ready!

Recommended Posts

Final price is $270 + $25 in freight (two-stage). Payment is required only when I have fully confirmed the existence of the sills (should be within a week)

PSI Parts; I notice that you're a business and have interests in the Skyline body styling department. If you are interested in the product; I will have to talk to the guys these items are coming from to get their OK. Not suggesting you will copy / sell as your own but it's just out of courtesy to them (I maintain that I am the only contact between them and people outside of their immediate clientele).

I now have a full set of 10 people who have confirmed 100%; until further notice (which probably will not happen) no further orders will be accepted.

Unless somebody drops out. Now, all there is left to do is wait for the green light!

cool can you please PM me the ETA on these bad boyz... so i can make sure im funded as soon as they are ready to buy them!

  • 3 weeks later...

Ok; contact confirms that the first sample is finished - he just needs to actually see it and approve it's quality first (I'm not a gambling person).

Should not be long now...

OK people, this is it - the prototype is ready (finally) and here are the latest photos (taken only last night I believe) of the finalized product. As you can see the item is a little bit different to the R34 version I posted in the previous threads, more information on this below.

For all those who have begun to think that this was a failed exercise, I'm sorry for the wait - supplier did take their sweet ass time to get the ball rolling - but it has been worthwhile.

These are not photoshopped images; these are the REAL THING people!!! The world's first R33GTST CF Door Sills :woot::yes: What a way to start the new year...

And now straight from the email I received this morning...

Take a look. That's the world's first CF 33 door sills and it is NOT like the 34 versions with a shiny "wet carbon look". It is like those very expensive "dry carbon look". The original cow skin like pattern is preserved on a malt transparent coating on CF base. Together with the original "Skyline" words, perfect replica.

They told me that's the reason for the long wait. These 33 sills will be manufactured by an expensive new machine, which is capable of making 3-4 pairs of door sills per day. On top of speed, take a closer look at the edges of the sills and you will see the finishing is better than old CF products.

As you can see we've gone to quite a lot of trouble to get these so I hope you all like what you see... otherwise I'm going to have to take a big amount out of my bank and buy whatever is left over from this limited production run.

I have already asked for confirmation that the production run has commenced - once this has been done I will begin taking payments - you have all been PMed about it already.

2007, happy times >_<

No is the answer to that... these guys are not interested in mass marketing; just look at how long it's taken them to do one single product up for me?

Glad you like them... I just got confirmation from them that they are ready to go; so we are ready to rock n roll!

I'll draft up an instructional PM this morning and issue it out to everyone ~

Little update:

Just been told that you can "polish" this dry carbon to turn it into the wet carbon look (i.e. make it all shiny) so I guess it's the best of both worlds >_<

Also, a word from the supplier is that the prices this time round is the discounted rate; a gesture to show how sorry they are for the delay... I've been told to inform you all that the prices in future may/will increase (that's if they make another batch)

Thanks

S

LOL tell me where you live or were you'd like to meet and I'll deliver it >_< I want to see them on a R33 too

Oh yeah, anyone who is in on these; please do me a favour and get me some photos...

Got some friends in the UK interested!

    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
    • The video for the servicing and fuel filter change can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLJ65pmQt44 One of the main jobs I wanted to do before the car officially went on the road, was to remove the awful looking blue silicone hoses. There's nothing wrong with having coloured silicone hoses, but I realise as I'm getting older I prefer monotone engine bays with a splash of colour on the engine cover(s). I cover this in a lot more detail in the Youtube video, so unfortunately there's limited photos of the process. The intercooler, upper radiator, boost vacuum and upper breather hoses were all changed to black silicone with mikalor clamps. The only blue left is a blanking cap at the back of the inlet manifold and the GReddy pulleys (which will be replaced for stock when the cambelt gets replaced) While the intercooler pipes were off I gave them a quick clean/polish too A before photo I do have a replacement air filter on its way. Fuse box covers were painted blue, they're now satin black Another job on the list while the bumper was off, is to add some mesh https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737966256_99b28bfa30_c.jpg[/img] I was hoping to use some thin wire to secure it, but it seems I've misplaced it and the wire I had was too thick to twist easily. I ended up using cable ties for the time being https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737131882_c2b7989dcc_c.jpg[/img] Was pleasant to see this https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737131627_8b2aab13b3_c.jpg[/img] The last thing to do was to fix the front grill and re-mesh that to match but I ran out of time The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4FsF6tgizE&t=23s
