Hey, im having the same sort of problem as you, and no one else seems to get it (with the thumping). Cept mine happens when your at the lights with A/C on and head lights or brakes on. Can you set yuor car idling, turn your A/C and high beams on and check it in 3 or 4 minutes, see if its thumping please? I'm thinking my prob iss the alternator, maybe your turbo timer is sucking to much juice to?

Post back here if you check that, cheers

A TURBO TIMER DOES NOT USE ALOT OF POWER IT IS A TIMED RELAY

1.4 A just for having the timer plugged in -- 3 wires, worked perfect

thats ALOT more than a car should drian just sitting there, and this was just that unit.

so ease up

1.4 amps in a car is nothing the std alternator is about 80 amps If you are worried about that power you would not want to run a aftermarket fuel pump and also having the head lights on is taking at least 15 amps let alone having a big stereo.

ah, i meant as in, altenator is screwed, not as in whether its capable of it.

Just that mine only does it when i have lots of accessories on, and i've heard hicas can mess up if its not getting enough power. Also while i get this thump and im driving, on every thump noise the steering wheel jerks.

hey guys, i was able to go checkout kribside's car today and looks like to me that there is a hardline from the air condition pump (maybe?) that is visibly knocking backwards and forwards. i've gone around it here in MS Paint. so its fair dodgey. has anyone had experience with a problem like this? and is it part of the air conditioning? (no cars i've ever had have had a/c hah)

i could grab the hose but it wouldnt stop the knocking noise, couldnt work out exactly where it was coming from other than either the motor or the pipe hitting metal somewhere, but like i said, holding it wouldnt stop the noise

Hi I have just joined this forum, it sounds like ur hicas is working when its not suppose to. On my car when i run a diagnostic mode for the hicas my back wheels thump and move about 1.5 degrees each way as the hicas light flashes. maybe there is something shorting ur relay coil(for ur hicas) wire to ur air conditioner some where. I would check to see if ur back wheels are turning and if they are, look under ur dash near the foot pedals and see if there are any splits in the cables under there. My cousin had the same problem but his hicas would kick in unexpectedly, so he left it but then later on melted a fuse and melted the fuse holder aswell, what was happening was he had a cut in a yellow insulated wire that must of been tapping on bare negative wires because car sparkys dont worry about taping ground wires as they can hit the car body and not short, but when u wrap it in a big coil and sit it next to a positive cable u will have problems. yeh so it must ve been tapping together not long enough to blow the fuse and just melted it. I taped it up and put it back in the coil it was in and he hasnt had a problem

Good Luck

Is your a hydraulic or electronic hicas system?

It looks hydraulic and that's some sort of pump/valve body for it!

That controlls the pressure etc. for the hicas system.

Correct me if i'm wrong.

Check to see if that whole assembly is tightly fastened to the chassis or where ever it mounts, maybe it's just lose.

Cheers

Josh

it's an altenator/battery problem. low voltage. Those lines are power steering/hicas line. When the voltage to the hicas drops you get that thumping noise. had the same problem in my 32 GTST. then after a while it started killing batteries. pulled out the altenator and got it rebuilt. never heard that thumping noise again.

check your altenator with the car idling. should be putting out around 13.8 volts. then put the car onto the turbo timer and see what it's putting out.

mm ok we'll have to look into that

but the noise is coming from the engine bay, not the back of the car

here is a better pic of the hose that jumps about, any ideas what it is actually for?

yeah thats definately the HICAS hey.... thats power stearing fluid... if you follow those lines to the front youll see they just do a loop at the front of the car in alloy (thats for cooling) and if you follow it towards the back of the car youll see it goes to behind the back diff where the controller is...

so for why its thumping... no idea...

I Agree with "Beer Baron"

Go to an Auto Elec and get your charging system and battery tested, unless you have the "right" tools at home to do it yourself!

I wouldn't want it to play up for to long as you might "burnout" or damage your hicas system.

And that rubber hose deos goto the front for cooling!

Cheers

Interesting that

I would recommend running the diagnostic mode from this guy. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...icas+diagnostic

if this guy is to brief or is missing something i can help u out because i have a 'sky is the limit' manual which has it in it. it should say on his thread that different flash sequences mean different problems. this will test ur electronic side well and ull actually see the back wheels turning if its working properly. those thumping noises is pretty weird their must be a electronic valve closed somewhere or its blocked or something i really dont know, but if its a little seized and just needs to be free'd up the diagnostic mode will help it.

Good luck again

sorry just read ur first remark about it doing it when the key is out and the turbo timer is on. This might mean that when the key is out the solenoids (electronic valves shut.) And i think the turbo timer is connected wrong also and would check the wiring of that with the wiring daigram for ur turbo timer.

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
