Hi guys

I am thinking of buying a power FC for my r33 gtst and I am after some info on the unit! My mechanic is a little iffy about the unit and thinks a haltec would be better! Whats the up sides and down sides to this power FC .

- Can you fit the single coil pack system to the ECU ?

- What does it get rid of eg. speed limiter.....ect

- Does the AC still work with the apexi power FC?

- Hicas still work also?

- Is the hand controler in english or japanesse?

- Are they easy to tune?

- How many tunning point does it have compaired other ECU's?

- can you run a another brand (HKS) boost controler with the FC?

- what kind of pre maps does the unit come with?

- any other info would be great......

please help have been the apexi website not to much on what the power FC does!

cheers:D

1. not sure

2. pfc will get rid of 180 limiter

3. yep

4. yep. hicas is controlled by another unit

5 english

6. depends on the tuner. take it to someone who knows what their doing

7. not sure

8. yep

9. comes with a base map but it's tuned for jap octane fuel. Boost with aussie fuel and may cause problems.

Other info. Plug and play. No need to cut wires. Saves on labour.

1. not sure....SydneyKid u there?

7. 20 x 20 (400points)

the base maps are conservative, so you should be right from when you plug it in - as long as you reset (in the etc menu).

you can use any boost controller, just make sure after the reset, that you turn the boost control option off or you will get a fault with the power fc - it looks for the boost controller and cant find one.

As for tuning - I would suggest you check with whoever is doing the tuning as to whether they can tune it or not.

Cant remeber the website, but apexi have a usa website that has a bit of info on these units and its in english - including a pdf of the manual (for a RX7 but you get the idea).

Another option is to use the power fc boost controller and sell your HKS unit - might even be a bit cheaper.

EDIT: just out of interest, why do you want to run a single coil pack?

Its ment to stop alot of the problems you have with the engine poping under boost! thats what my mechanic said. ;) I think I need a new mechanic!:)

I am from tasmania and there isn't any dealers around here to tune the Power FC!.....:( need to find someone!

How does power FC compaire to other local ECU's:D

yes it is,

Your mechanic is right - a correctly tuned ECU will stop the popping.

There are alot of good locally made ECUs, Microtech, Autronic, Wolf 3D - if your mechanic recommends a power fc - that is what I would be getting - it is a very good unit and will run everything on your car like the stock computer and give you alot more power.

Hi guys, I think everyone has answered the questions very well, better than I could. There is only one issue that keeps coming up with PFC's. Where can I find someone who can tune it?

Our dyno guy had never seen one before, he read the 2 manuals (ECU and Commander) overnight (in the "library" as he calls it). We put the car on the dyno the next morning and he started tuning. His comment was "works just like any other handset (as distinct from laptop) programable ECU". Laptop ones are easier as they have more room to display the ECU information and a keyboard.

More recently I showed him a Datalogit (laptop) sytem for the GTR Power FC, and he was entirely happy that he could start programming a PFC with it instantly.

Bottom line any good dyno operator should be able to tune a PFC with a Commander after a 10 minute read of the manuals. With a Datalogit, lap top system they would not even need that.

Steve mentioned that impedance selectivity was a problem with PFC's. Honestly I have never found it to be an issue, I can easily find the right impedance injector. The fuel rail feed and O'ring sizing is far more often the problem.

Hope that helps.

    • Ok thanks..that was my second question if i can somehow bypass this even with Nistune(that is all i have right now...aparat from stock ECU. So with some aftemarket it can by "bypassed" or make it work?  I know there is Link or Haltech (mainly used). We have ECUmaster here so i will gather some info about it.
    • Yes. You will need to get the original boost sensor and wire it in. That is.... if you plan to use a stock ECU - even a Nistuned ECU. The Nissan ECU will not operate correctly without it connected. And yes, it will do annoying stuff like you are experiencing. You will almost certainly be better off with some aftermarket ECU, than trying to hunt down rare sensors.
    • Ok so ABS/TCS is "not" the problem. Yeah i know now about the ABS with Nistune(i told that to the Nistune guy) but iam not 100% why or why i dont have ABS. ABS cube is in the engine (always has been) but i had braked couple of times rly hard and brakes just locked and scream. Does all Skylines have ABS cube? That boost sensor https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/367633-wtb-r34-gtt-turbo-pressure-sensor-pics-inside/ Is this it? I need to ask but i have a picture of engine bay and i do not see that (100% is not in that place) If i do not have this the car can do what mine is?(cutting around 4000 rpm) Here is the pic of my engine bay(only one i have) BUT i think i dont have that cuz loom was used from my RB20DE NEO and i know (obviously) that it does not have boost control or any wire to that...) so maybe that is the problem? (i dont know for 100% if that car where the engine is from had that)...but i dont have the loom from that
    • I'm with you here. It's either loom has an issue, OR, injectors are not functioning properly. It could even be they're just constantly dribbling, hence the wet, but not firing.
    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
