Hi all! I have just change my NSW driving licence to ACT licence. The trouble with it is that I have to change my NSW rego to ACT rego. According to the "Shop Front" - ACT RTA, I have to get my car inspected by Authorised Inspected Station. I was given a list where to get it inspected. The question to ask is how tough is the vehicle inspection as I do have a front mount Intercooler and some other mods. Will that post any problem? Any comments!!

If you have a front mount and other assorted modifications then you will have to take it to Dickson rego station for an inspection.

All other shops that do checks wont touch it because theres a government regulation that states that all modified vehicles must be taken to Dickson, especially imports.

The guys out at Dickson are thourough but not unfair, they will most likely accept most mods as "safe" as long as they arent really bodgy installs...

Also if you have an aftermarket blowoff valve you will need to remove it and put the stock one back on because ANY atmospheric blowoff valve is classed as venting raw emissions and therefore illegal.

If you have a boost controller - either hide it or take it off because they dont like them unless theyre engineered and if you have a programable ECU dont tell them because most also have to be engineered.

Another good idea would be to fit a "rego" rear muffler to bring the noise down under 90 DB as this is the limit for a turbo 6 cylinder engine.

Good luck :w00t:

I went through the NSW/ACT rego change recently-I had to get an ID check as well as the full inspection-although I was told I could get a inspection done other than Dickson once people saw the car said I should go through Dickson-its not modified too much but 4 goes before I passed. Main things were:

ride height-too low

exhaust too low

exhaust too loud

battery needed to be changed to "sealed battery" in boot

18 " wheels not factory -borrowed Jayce's 17's

No child restaints

No parsel shelf

No "under bonnet issues" came up-they probably wouldnt know whether a front mount is factory or not. Good luck!

Rumble. Another question. Do we really need to change from NSW rego to ACT rego? Not sure how that works! If I have to go through that much trouble, I would better keep my NSW licence and keep my NSW rego. That really S#@Ks.

Yep if you dont need to I'd keep it NSW

Alright guys! I have booked my car in for an inspestion on Monday with Dickson Motor Registry. FMIC, after market steering wheel (320mm) don't think that will pass, huge but not too nosiy Nismo muffler and everything else stock standard. Wish me luck.

    • Sorry, are coilovers ACTUALLY ILLEGAL in NSW? They aren't in Vic, as long as they retain 70% of stock travel and the car is above 100mm off the ground. Does NSW actually have a law making coilovers actually illegal? RWC/Blue Slip/Engineering people not knowing the actual f**king laws boils my blood. Demand them to point to the documentation that states a coilover is illegal. (it may exist in NSW )
    • But seriously, can we ask for the results of the "tip a bottle of metho into a nearly empty tank" experiment?
    • Hang on. Let me get this straight. The desire is to have coilovers, BC in particular, to be MORE comfortable on Sydney roads than stock suspension? Well, that's obviously not right. BCs have crude damping design at the very best, and typically hard spring rates. BC stands for Billy Cart. And then, the desire is to put in some shitty old worn out stockers, to get it blue slipped and then put the BCs back in? And then.....what? Not worry about getting pulled up by the Plod? Because you seem to have raised a worry about paying for engineering (which actually does solve all your legality problems) and still getting pulled up.... but the only problem there is that if/when that happens you have to show your paperwork at the inspection station. Whereas, if you just swap in borrowed shitty old stockers to get it slipped now, and then you get defected in the future, you have to go find more shitty old stockers then too. You course of action looks like this set of options: Buy brand new stock type dampers, and springs. probably cost a bit more than $1k all up, but will last for the remaining life of the car. Put them in, pass inspection, drive on them forever more. Hell, they could even be really nice Bilsteins and Kings or other lower&stiffer springs if you wanted. Get the car engineered as is. ~$1k. Buy new Shockworks coilvers (or MCA) and also pay for engineering. You're spending a lot more here. But these will be the best things that you could drive around on.
    • Might be worthwhile hitting up Facebook's groups, I know most of them contain terrible people and scammers - however you might be able to find someone that's in Sydney with factory suspension you could purchase and/or hire. Just do not send any form of money anywhere, in person cash only.
