hey guys, have this problem with my r32 gtst, ill be driving along and change gear, then when i go to accelerate again the engine gets to about 2500rpm and then dies back down to about 1000rpm before kicking in again. it doesnt happen all the time only every now and again, doesnt matter how much fuel is in the tank or what temp the engine is. also if this happens and i come to a stop the car is idling at around 2000rpm, and if i turn the car off then back on again it seems to go away most of the time. ive talked to a mechanic and he said its probly the computer but then i talked to another mechanic and he said i may have to put the fuel pump (bosch 040) on a seperate relay circuit as there may be too much current running through the computer and it cuts out. would li8ke to get it fixed asap as i dont know if its doing any damage to things. mods on the car are splitfire coilpacks about 8 months old, front mount from a supra about 18 months old and the fuel pump about 6 months old. any info would be great thanks Dale

Sounds like an Electrical Problem

Where u located

and Have you got access to the Diagnostic software to check the sensors and check whats happening in live mode

Last time i had this problem. The coil pack earth was loost and cutting the engine in and out but as for the hi reving sounds like vacum leak.

have you got a boost guage. What vacuum you running,Have you had the car on a dyno.

havent had the car on a dyno trying to fault find it. it doesnt happen all the time but ill check the earths on the coilpacks tomorrow. als o was watching the boost guage tonite and it was happing right as the turbo started forcing air in, ie as soon as the guage hit '0' bar. ill go through it on the weekend and replace all the vacuum lines incase its something like that. thanks again

anyone have anythin more to share?

when you say afmeter is fine, how did you check it?

it is common that skyline afmeters intermittantly fail, due to break in the elec's inside the afmeter. pull it apart carefully and check the solder joints.

cheers

Jeremy

I had exactly the same sounding problem. It was intermitant, and turned out to be the AFM. As DVS32R stated, the solder in the connector box gets dry socket and lifts off every now and then. This is exactly what mine had done.

You can open the box with a stanly knife and resolder, but easier to get a new known good AFM.

There is a tut somewhere on the site on how to opon em up and resolder.

Good luck

Hey mate

my car is doing the same shit like cutting out at random times and the car comes to a haul even. it gives the shits so much, had it on the diagnostist twice n it said AFM error. got a 2nd hand AFM off a dude on the this forum n i still had the same problems and error code. dont know how good the actual AFM i got 2nd was. but my cars back at the dealers at the moment getting looked at so, hopefully someone will shed some light on this

    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
