A buddy of mine got defected for having a boost gauge "outside the cushioned area". I've been wanting to improve the mounting of my boost gauge, and like to have everything legal - so what needs to be done? The gauge is currently bare on the outside, and has a thin metal braket quite poorly mounted to the pod surround. It doesnt restrict vision at all as its low down on the RHS. How do i attach it in a legal manner? Can i get a mount that covers the entire gauge and is cushioned (and would that necessarily be considered legal)

Tnx

Kot

BTW - a sticky listing common defects might be useful - anyone interested? Ie somelike like the list below, but not the guesswork of someone who doesnt know what they're talking about.... I will start a new thread and compile the list from your input if there's any interest.

- atmospherically vented BOV

- wheels that touch bodywork

- aftermarket computer

- boost controller

- exhaust above X db

- catalytic converter with matrix removed

- any part of vehicle with less than 100mm clearance to the ground

there is a great site that shows all the legal and not legal mods you can do to your car....

i think its rta.gov or something...........

You probably mean http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/, which was my first point of referral before posting.

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/dow...si/vsi_dl1.html

Contains some interesting info, but i couldnt find anything to assist me with this question.

Rgs,

Hey,

I have boost, WB02 and fuel pressure gauges mounted underneath the dash cluster - they are listed

on my engineer's report. I guess this means they needed to be on the report to be legal (otherwise,

why would he have included them?).

I made my holders from exhaust tube cut to length, expanded to size, welded together, and painted

black. They certainly aren't cushioned. I _think_ that the criteria is "pose no additional threat to

occupants" - but I think you need to get an Engineering Signatory to say so in NSW.

This is all based on the above - the fact that they were included in my report, and that things

that don't _need_ to be in the report are not there...

Regards,

Saliya

If you goto the RTA site and go into the VIS section there is one on internal stuff, basicly it cant be above the height of the steering wheel, and only on the right hand side

    • I have done a lot of research before posting here and on gtruk forum. couldn't find anything. I have my gauges all part except the needle itself. the needle has a extremely small hole in the center, but the shaft going to the needle is extremely small and appears to have nothing to index it either. doesn't seem strong enough to simple pry or pull without damaging something. Already tried the old spoon trick on a extra triple meter I have from a gtt, but no luck. the center cap comes off easily but the hole in the meter face plate aren't big enough to get over the needle itself. figured this would be my best place to find someone who might have actually removed theirs. wonder if there is some type of small pin press tool to push the pin in while pulling the needle base off.
    • Ok...its taking me long enough to finally do this.  Feck financial security...heart disease will get me soon enough anyway So welcome to the garage..."Clem" Belsil80 has been running a 370Z in Super TT series. So after entering with him in last years Winton 300 i figured I  need my own car. Seems SAU Vic race cars need to be yellow....{tick} Reckon with enough motor i will be able to make up for the lack of talent and stay ahead of the 370Z... but the LS powered S13 and E36s are a ways up the road Aim is to have a car that doesnt stop or turn but has a bit of shed built motor with jam...maybe some cream  First step is getting this ex drift car log booked I am keeping faithful silver car. As the road-club car gets upgrades the race car wil get the sloppy seconds
    • Assuming that they will come off without damage at all.... i would have thought just pull straight up off the spindle with a something or other than can reach underneath. Have you searched for youtube vids of people doing similar on R34s or any other Nissan from the same vintage? They should be the same technique, in all likelihhood.
    • Keeping in mind that sandblasting is really aggressive on softer metals like cast alloy, and you can do damage that you might regret. For trash wheels, not a problem. For wheels with value/scarcity issues, etc.... perhaps a less aggressive media is a better choice?
