Two quick questions, im using the R33 GTS-t calipers on my VN SS and am wondering:

1) What torque are the 4 bolts that hold the two halves of the caliper together done up to?

2) Where can you get a caliper rebuild kit from? I have tried AutoBarn, AutoOne and Nissan them selves (this was bullshit, guy said cause its an import model they cant get them :D )

Cheers Dave

I just went through the manual and can't find any detail on the torque specs. Since the caliper is alloy I'd leave it for a brake specialist but doubt even they would disassemble this part unless absolutely necessary.

For the rebuild kit try www.racebrakes.com.au

You need to pull the two halves apart to rebuild them tho. Why is everything to do with a Skyline so difficult!? :D

Thanks for the tip, see what they have to say.

You shouldn't need to unless doing a hone.

The pistons come straight out. Use a block of wood in between to stop them coming all the way and use compresed air to blow them out.

One of the easiest jobs yet rarely done.

I was also replacing the seal between the two halves. Yeah I know how to get the pistons out, I have all ready reco'ed the rears. Holden stuff is so much easier. Can get the rebuild kit from just about anywhere, and is a piece of piss to work on.

The nissan 4 pot calipers can be split and there is a channel seal there which stops the fluid leaking when the fluid is travelling from one caliper half to the other .Some 4 pot calipers are monoblock which means 1 piece but these have a external "bridge pipe" which is at the end of the caliper and transfers the fluid from 1 half of the body to the other..The Nissan 4 pot calipers have 4 x 40mm pistons and should be cleaned in metho or water not fuel or thinners which will cause the rubbers to swell. The caliper kits come with the channel seals ,piston seals, and boots.Give Race Brakes Sydney a ring he has them in stock 02 9609 1101.

Thanks heaps mate. I didnt think there would be a problem with pulling them apart, other wise they wouldnt make them that way.

    • Update all   thanks to the workshop manual, it lead me back to checking fuses as mentioned central locking and door open lights worked when acc was switched on. diagram attached shows two points of power 1. ACC and 2.  Batt with the later being fused (#28) I did check the fuses using a multimeter but I must have stuffed that up also. Went back and checked the batt fuse in interior fuse box and you wouldn’t believe it… a blown fuse. replaced fuse and everything is now working as it should including the climate control   thank you all with your positive insight and knowledge.
    • Where is the warning "That this thread is super old"   I just went into a 5 year old thread, went to do a reply, and couldn't see anywhere obvious a warning of it being super old
    • Duncan is correct. Pitwork (and Toyota's own cheap brand "Drive Joy") were primarily created as brands to sell other manufacturers car parts. It would be weird if Nissan sold parts for Toyota vehicles with a Nissan logo on it, so they created Pitwork to sell parts for other brans Toyota, Honda etc. They are not the same as Nissan genuine parts, although they *do* meet Nissan's standards for replacement parts. They aren't supposed to be a substitute for genuine parts, but a cheaper alternative that is better than Ebay fake parts from you-know-where.
    • Thanks GTSBoy, much easier to work with it now it's free!
    • I _think_ that one has a christmas tree or some other retainer spike into a hole in that panel under it. Come in under it with thin scredrivers and just pry it gently up. If you rip the ears off the retainer pin....so what? Just stick it back down after with a bit of race tape and carry on with life.
