Rear Demister Not Working

Hi all,

Just got a quick prob i'm hoping someone can help me with.. I've just purchased a R31 Silhouette and have found that my rear demister doesn't work.. No light on the dash anyway..

It's been too hot to actually check the lines running across the rear window, but it looks to be in one piece and not nicked/cut or anything.. Switches are all plugged in and no fuse blown..

The only thing I can notice is that the rear stop light has been removed.. Would this be a reason??..

could just be a blown bulb. i had a 180sx that only had half of the lights in the buttons work.

i'd just make a trip to a wreckers and get some more. if they are the ones in the little holder then don't go to nissan. they want about $30 each. i got 8 bulbs and a gear knob from the wreckers for $5.

Nah don't reckon it's the globe as it lights up when the key is on the on position, but not once it is started and not when the switch is pushed..

Test the demister wire on the rear window for continuity with a multimeter set to ohms. That would be the first place to start to see if its actually a complete circuit. Then see if its getting power once its switched on using the voltmeter function on the multimeter.

so the light saying that it is on comes on when the button hasn't been pushed, but not when it has been? i'd say faulty switch, or short in the wiring.
