hey all just doing some reasearch on what front mount intercooler i can get for my 33, i know this topic has been covered alot but id still like to ask some questions

what i want is a cooler that will support approx 300-350rwkw (so i dont have to upgrade again later)

i would like to get a kit that uses a return that doesnt need to cut into the engine bay so it leaves the car in its original condition if i happen to remove it on sale of the car. From what i have read the blitz LM kit uses that style piping but its hard to find other types.

Ive had a look at all the just jap ones but think they are of poorer quality hence the cheap price (u get what u pay for) and also they need cutting to the engine bay to be done

and i was also told that the trust m spec ones are made in the same factory in china as the just jap cooloers so yeah... can count that one out (i also think that uses the piping i dont like)

basically what are my options, i have a series 1 33 with a modified series 1 front bar

my budget is not much more than $1000 but will spend more if it is definately worth it. Id really like to spend $600-$1000 to be honest

i have looked at gtr coolers as well but need some opinions on someone more experienced than myself

thanks

seriously mate just go for a brand name jap one. as you said the blitz LM kit is exactly the one you want and i think it is around the $1000 mark. pretty sure autobarn sell them.

it should do you up to 300rwkw.

these kits are realy easy to fit and should not require any modifications to fit them.

I've got the blitz LM on my r33 gtst. You don't have to do any body metalwork BUT you'll have to hack your front bar up - I ended up pulling the bar apart too separating the metal backing from the plastic bar and trimming from there. You'll need an angle grinder with cutting wheel or an air saw - I started with nothing but a hacksaw and file and what a bitch.

Take your time and check and double check before cutting.

A blitz lm should be fine for 350rwkw.

Cheers

thanks for the replies, i was just stating approx 300rwkw as i dont think i will ever get more than that more realistically i hope to get around 250rwkw in about a years time when i get a bigger turbo + computer and other supporting mods. i have no problem cutting into the front bar as its not as bad as the engine bay especially when the boys in blue want to have a peek.

is the reo part of the front bar or the car?

i think the blitz lm kit is around $1400 or so from autobarn so it will be hard to find for $1000

I got my Blitz FMIC kit from nengun...good buy and from memory was under $1000 (just) delivered.

Retains the stock intercooler piping.

I was disappointed that the blitz piping did not come polished (i thought it looked polished in the pic) so I just gave it a buff myself. Most of it is hidden behind the front bar anyway.

also has anyone got their own iping made up to use the standard pipes? if so roughly how much would i be looking at?

Blitz Lm is the way to go mate, i have had the hybrid kits and they are good but u got to cut holes plus i dont like running pipe between the radiator and engine. Or u can get any FMIC and get a shop to do the pipes custom to meet with ur stock pipes like the blitz LM, that might be the cheaper otion.

to copy the blitz lm piping using the stock intake pipe and turbo pipe u only need to get two pipes to 3 pips made max. When i got it done about 2 years ago it cost me $400 including fit of the intercooler but thats was a real good price. Things should be cheaper now so u should get it done for about that at any reputable work shop who is experienced in intercooler piping. shop around and explain what u want as est u can.

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
