Not sure if Ricky my mate is doing rally of tas, but he recently compleated the mountaind challange 4 day even, came 1st in a couple of categories and then some seconds and some 6th places after the car failed to finish a stage.

I have drivven with some hard core drivers, but my mate, i tell you what, you fell like your about to die and then, bang all good again. He definatly drives 11/10 evertime.

the quote

"If you want to explore the limits, sometimes you have to be prepared to go over them"

Is somethign he came up with. LOL. and certainly suits him down to a T.

Dad and I are sharing the drive of a R33 GT-R V-Spec N1.

We have heeps to do, get our licences and fill the entry forms out, get intercom system, do a recce......

What do you do about the licence information on the form if CAMS don't get the info back to you by the entry close off date?

Also, are you aloud to get rid of HICAS? and how do I get the 2007 Supplementary Regulations?

And we just found out that the LF suspention needs fixing, cause the car had a hit before we got it, and is 15-20mm too far back. :/

Tim: you in beachy's donut king S15?

I went and saw Rosemary Taylor at KT Electronics, she sorted me out with membership to LCCT and what exactly I need to fill out on the CAMS forms, they will issue you with a temporary licence until yours comes through.

You have to do a Rally lecture (online) and minimum 2 club days, im gonna try do the club day at symmons on the 4th Feb and depending on when the next one is a kahnacross which ever is available.

Don't worry about the car too much you should see ours, we stripped it back to a bare shell!!!

And yes im in beechey's donut king car, but not the one that was at the V8's this is its sister car.

I am being a pit bitch for Duncan (Driver) and Kel (Navigator) Handley.

Im not sure what the rules are for gloves or what the requirements for licencing is either sorry.

Hope to meet you there!

Hey Jas are you sure Kel is the Nav,,,she might other thoughts. The girl can steer you know,,,just ask Scott.

Neil.

Neil.

Pay you later Neil

(and chop chop Scott)

On a more serious, and less gratuitous note...

We should organise an SAU catch up at Targa - I know things get crazy when the racing is on, so maybe a before event 'SAU do'?

Post interest and arrival dates?

Team Raceworx gets in the Sunday before at this stage.

Sounds good, be good to meet people before the event

Yes it does sound good. Tried for it last year but just got caught up with pre-targa fun... like buying some old bombs and motorcross tracking them with Whitey and crew... lol

This year I'm sussing out a navigating with someone else (advertised on the Targa site), so hopefully that'll come off!

Cheers, Ben

We will be there, but first Rally Tas. At the moment we are Preparing

Hope this helps

Hmm im just trying to figure out wether we can't run M3 or not, currently nominated as M2, but have noticed a few cars running M3 which generally fall into a M2 category.

If we could run M3 it would save HEAPS of headaches IE with our radiator, sump and wheel size to clear the brembo's.

I might have to read it again when im not so tired.

200SX = M2.

PM'd you Tommy.

Its based on times for the cars acceleration from 0-100km. M2 is cars between 4.8 and 6.8 seconds. S15 200SX was 6.3 according to Motor Mag. The JDM S15 would have been quiker again so don't go there!

If you can find three seperate historical magazine or newsapaper articles that publish times over 6.8, get Nissan to confirm they're list time and submit an application to CAMS along with a $55 fee they have a committee in Melbourne that may reclassify.

There have so been a few cars that did this - 944 S2, R32 and R33 GTSt.

I'm currently working out if its worth doing the same for the RX7... all the early Motor and Wheels say early 7 seconds, but then your stuck with the crap intercooler, so think we'll just run in M2 as an SP (not Targa though as I have a bit on around that time of year!).

EVO mag, 200SX = 6.5seconds... Before I did Targa the first time, I got the most useful bit of information from a guy I propped up the bar with on the spirit prior to the 2002 event. Things have changed a bit, but much remains the same.

His advise was "Read the rules mate... then read 'em again & again." "When you think you understand them, chose a car that takes advantage of the rules" Don't turn up with your favourite car, because it may be disadvantaged by the regs. We chose our first car accordingly and it now comes off even better when the rules are applied.

So I now call this my advise, because the guy drove a P76, and next time I spoke to him in 2003 he blew me off... probabley because I had just sucked his doors off when overtaking him LOL.

There you go, its all in the way you present your car

Yeh i did read them! just wasn't making much sense at the time, just trying to look for options to use what we have.... which is a small budget >_<

It would be nice to have a budget to choose what car to enter, but alas at our age (young and stupid) you don't have such a thing. Maybe in a few years time... You know when I get that big promotion >_<

Not in it to win it, just to get a taste of Tarmac rallies (beauty of the rookie rallye). I reckon if we enjoy it, we'll be back next year, and the year after etc maybe one day even in one of those cars that starts with the letter P and ends in an E

    • Well, this is probably where a wiring diagram and a multimeter come into play.
    • I can say to anyone thats doing this; having done a number of R clusters; just be careful if its an unknown cluster.  It takes a bit of force to pull up; but if it feels excessive then its probably stuck. I've had this and pulled the entire hair spring out; and I can tell you; its not easy getting the correct spring replacement with the correct inner diameter and winding. In my case someone had used some sort of adhesive to stick it to the spindle and it pulled the whole spindle out; which the force seperated the hairspring from the spindal and caused it to deform.  You may have to clean it (IPA); or in my case if i'd known i should have used some sort of solvent on it.  Also check out Cruizin Central on eBay. He does all sorts of dials; and you can email him with any custom designs you want. So if you want like certain logos etc...he'll send you a mock of what it will look like then you accept the order and he'll take care of the rest. Fantastic dials and he can do basically any design you want.
    • Have you confirmed its the actual axles? Also the wheel bearings that mount on the hubs to hold the axles wear out. I replaced mine as they got play in them. It sorted my play issue.
    • Ive converted a few clusters for the R33 with 320km/h dials. On the back there are some pads which can be bridged or unbridged (using solder or wick braid) to calibrate it. There is one bridge which is for MPH <> KPH; and there are combinations of bridges to offset it. There is probably a diagram  For example; this is my conversion for a 180km/h dial to a 320km/h dial (I put custom GT-R dials on it with the GTS25t layout) If you have J2 soldered (assuming the S clusters have a similar config to the R clusters); you may need to remove that solder
    • Back on topic 😉, these are some of the notable pages from the booklets that are supplied with each weekly parts update. I never knew the BNR32 test mule car had an S13 Silvia front end... *Edit: On closer inspection the test car still had the R32 body, but only the front end had Silvia panels etc.
