Yeh i did read them! just wasn't making much sense at the time, just trying to look for options to use what we have.... which is a small budget ;)

It would be nice to have a budget to choose what car to enter, but alas at our age (young and stupid) you don't have such a thing. Maybe in a few years time... You know when I get that big promotion :(

Not in it to win it, just to get a taste of Tarmac rallies (beauty of the rookie rallye). I reckon if we enjoy it, we'll be back next year, and the year after etc maybe one day even in one of those cars that starts with the letter P and ends in an E

I wasn't for a minute suggesting you go out and get another car... Just that not always the car you like or have will come off best from the rules.

Don't beat yourself up for living the dream... I stood on the side of the road in 92 and watched Chas roar past in the F40, and thought - I gotta do that one day! 10 years later (2002) standing on the side of the road with the oldman watching the cars head to Longford... "I think I'll do this event one day." "Don't spend too 'ken long thinking about it" was his reply. We started in 03.

We went from RX7 Classic to L34 to XU-1 to R31 to HCR32 before we settled on a weapon.

M8, the most fun you and your mates will have - service crew has a ball too, and just hope the bug doesn't bite too hard - we are fronting up for our 4th year.

If you need any help, PM me

Oh, yeah... dont become as my Late M8 Doug called em - a Posche Tosser

Who are you with Marlin?

I'm strapping in with Dean Grant from Melbourne, he's purchased the ex White 34 GTR. Dean's done alot of circuit racing (Porsche Carrera Cup etc) and been really quite successful as a privateer, and has also done Mt Buller a few times too. He seems like a level headed guy with realistic goals (and above all wants to keep it on the black stuff), so yeah, I'm in!

Yew Hoo!! See ya there boys! Ben

:D

Oh thats great, I heard Whitey's car finally sold!

Se you there in it!

You will indeed! :D As I will see you too! :)

On an aside, have you spoken to Whitey about this twin engine cart series thingy he's got going at the moment? Sounds like alot of fun! Such good fun AND value I'm seriously considering joining in and travelling to Tas to compete each round.

I don't get out to the karts much (nor know much whats going on with them), I'll ask a guy I know who races. I remember seeing a twin engine in the open class a while back though.. That was quick!

Yeah neither do I. But it pricked my ears up because of the cost. Apparently these particular carts are no longer running anywhere officially, so Jason's been buying them up just to run a series in Tas. Apparently they're cheep as chips to run and maintain.... just thought I'd mention it :)

So, how about an update fellas?

Is everyone still set?

I know there was a lot a carnage in Rally Tas over the weekend, with several cars off... I heard someone from here but don't know the extent of the damage? I hope Targa Tas can still be made!

Cheers, Ben. Car #979 for 2007!

Carnage... my fur coat! R32 on roof in the middle of Hellyer ('bout half way up the hill). VW's x 3, Leased Ralliart Evo, couple of STI's & the bald guys in whte VI - needed gps to find it when in site of finish line.

We tested all weekend, went backards a couple of times, but for what we wanted -good result.

Uncle Johns must have got a bad batch of snakes...

The bar has been raised as we all knew it would. Now top ten an exclusive club.

TT

TT, glad you finished unscathed! Jack Crocker (the baldies) sent me a pic of his white genuine Makinen Evo VI, was a F**ING mess! He said the wheel spokes wouldn't come out of the tree!

How was the situation with these dirt rally boys dragging rubbish onto the road?

Weather caught a few people out! We didn't even consider the need for another set of tyres all weekend! till lunchtime saturday of course!

The bollards were out, yet there was still crap all over the road so go figure

Dad finally sent the entry form's in (on the due date). And this weekend we'r doing our last OLT event, so we should be fine to get our NR licence.

I noticed your on the invited list now Ben :(

Given we tore the whole road up in Savage, it wa fairly insignificant. Seed 22, we ran before all the so called corner cutters and there was plenty of gravel. Once it is all over the corner and you are commited, the only safe way through is to cut the corner... that or underteer off.

We will be under the microscope in Targa, so it will be interesting. It will be hard to police without bollards, how do they know you cut the corner or were just out of control.

We are busy doing exhaust and tuning for the next couple of weeks which will be good. 160wkw just don't cut it on the hills... 4WD or not.

Ciao

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.
    • My Nismo 1.5 churps a bit on reverse turns when cold, but besides that feels like a stock diff.
    • Yes, but, I paid cash and I'm pretty sure the receipt was in the bin 10 minutes after I got home Note to self, keep all receipts
    • Bunnings would have just handed you your money back on that one!
    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
