Just wanted to check with other regular importers:

Has anyone else been having a hard time with Melbourne AQIS?

It seems every car that i have sent to Melbourne has been "contaminated" and requires quarantine cleaning.

Its not cheap either at almost $200 per car. :(

I have never had a problem with AQIS at any other port, so why is Melbourne so fussy?

I have used the same japanese supplier all along, so its not like the quality of the cars/condition should influence this.

lol

Sydney was / has been pretty much the same in my experience and talking to some RAWS. First car I ever imported passed first go and the customs broker I used was surprised when he heard that. Didn't really understand what he meant until cars 2&3 came through :(

I used to send all my cars to adelaide and never had a problem here.

I've started sending them to melbourne and every car has been "contaminated" I've sent one to sydney before and didnt have problem there either.

I thought it might just be a Melbourne thing

I suppose it is an easy revenue raiser for the government, as most importers will just want to see their cars out of the port to avoid storage fees.

I've thought about disputing this before, but considering how steep storage fees are.... the port is assured of revenue one way or another! :(

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
